Artemis is a name that belonging to a famous Greek deity whom is known to be the goddess of the hunt, a person whom she would envision to be a strong woman. Something that she believes she herself is not. Saeko is a teenager still struggling to get through life with the unfortunate circumstances that had led to her obtaining scars and becoming an orphan four years ago. Although she may have the façade that she is relatively cheerful, it’s not a mask that can be easily held up and is quite prone to shattering in many instances. Genuinely a kind girl, she finds herself yearning to be something that she believes she cannot be a strong and beautiful person and just like any other person struggling through issues in real life she finds outlets to deal with them. This choice was games, eventually leading her to partake in the forbidden fruit known as Sword Art Online, completely unaware to the circumstances that the wolf in sheep’s clothing would lead her to.
possible pre-game relations;
childhood friend - someone whom at the very least had a friendship to her before what resulted in her becoming an orphan and moving.
orphanage sibling - others whom live in the same orphanage as her, although she does have her fair share of issues she would definitely act alike a big sister towards the younger ones.
schoolmate - she never attends school apart from once in a while however that doesn't mean that you hadn't heard about her once and peeked a glance. there might be a lot of rumours surrounding her during those times.

Hi! I'd love for Prince, or Alice, to have been Saeko's classmate or schoolmate. Maybe they could have heard of each other? Alice is the "Foreigner", known for being quiet and being blatantly "not Japanese." I imagine she'd know Saeko as something along the lines of a "weird slacker" or something since she skipped classes a lot?
If you're cool with that, it might be fun to have them meet up in game. Alice always kept a cool head and remained quiet in real life, but in the game, she's gonna be a panicky idiot.

I probably should Idarn typos of wrote it in detail but she doesn't attend a lot namely due to her current insecurities when it comes to being with others. She has been allowed to do so by an agreement between the school and orphanage, namely due to the fact that she achieves good grades on her own other than the fact that she has to come to school to sit tests. During those times will be the moments you may spot her. I can imagine people staring and talking about her the moment she comes into the room to have a sit, with the common rumours being of people either thinking of her in a neutral or bad light (highschool o/) . Although she would try to avoid the stares of others during the time, she definitely would find herself looking at you due to your foreign looks and peeking another glance or two.
The difference between real life and in game for her is that slowly she's going to develop to have a bit more confidence but meanwhile, she's going to be her socially awkward nervous self that is distant from others. Goodness knows what meeting someone she knows in real life- especially school - would do to her slowly overcoming her faults but I like to torture my poor bbys. *pats* So all up for anything after the whole big we're stuck in the game announcement period.

I think them meeting after the 'death game' announcement would be fun. Prince had a very 'ice queen' or 'cool calm and collected' attitude in school. So whenever Artemis saw her, she'd only really see a calm and composed person. Meanwhile, in the game, Prince is going to be a sobbing wreck most of the time. So if Artemis ever needs someone to make herself look like a stable and well adjusted person, Prince is your gal!

I had just finished pitching the idea that Ii/Ruler might attend the same school Alice does, and so if Artemis does as well they might as well all three be schoolmates. A coincidence heaped on coincidences, although it's unlikely Ii and Naito would know each other very well: Ii is not an initiative-taker, and generally only talks with people who seek him out first.
He's friendly, which isn't the problem, and happily helps out if he is able to do so. He's simply not someone who seeks out others for their company, earning a reputation as a 'loner'. He is one of the proudest members of the go-home club.
Being one year her elder, they could be in the same year (with one birthday falling early in the year, the other later), but it's also possible Ii would be her senpai. In which case, please forgive senpai for neither (a) noticing you and (b) being good at the video games.
When he was younger, Ii declared he was the lord of darkness, a dark history he has done his best to forget, and which most his classmates find little opportunity to bring up. If they were classmates, or at least in the same year, it's likely Naito would know some of his dark history. Alas, the path of the dark lord is fraught with shame.
While he has no esteem issues, Ii is solipsistic (only his own mind exists─he cannot prove others aren't figments of his imagination) and has been struggling in school. This has lead to his escape to the game, as an excuse to delay his schoolwork. And if he does not do homework, he has a valid excuse for failing: he never tried his best. In that sense, both have some self-esteem issues.
I'm quite all right with Naito and Ii having a closer relationship than "people who have heard of each other", though. He would not be beside having childhood friends, and his solipsistic streak is recent, and not something he was born with. A remainder of his time as the 'grandmaster of the dark side', if you will.
In-game, Ruler will aspire to crafting, but also deal in combat. With a kite shield, I hope for Ruler to stand on the frontlines and defend his allies. Artemis is a strong, independent woman who needs no man to defend her. This is good, because she can instruct Ruler in the art of defending others. If she's feeling insecure, she's permitted to hide behind Ruler's kite shield and put her trust in him.
I don't think any real-life connection needs to be made, and if so it need not be made apparent immediately, but embarking on a quest together sounds like a good starting point to start on a path of friendship, alliance, or steep dislike of each other; pick your fancy?
