Long story short, he wanted to escape his home life. His one small act of defiance against his parents caused him to buy Sword Art Online and log into the game.[break][break]
He regretted not sneaking in for beta testing as soon as he logged in. It was amazing. The world was so real, and he loved it. He didn't want to escape.[break][break]
Except, when Kayaba's announcement came out, all he could think of was that this game, although realistic, was not real. However, he's resolved to work his way out while making the most out of his life here.

He'll become friends with just about anyone. He's very friendly and he tries his hardest to get along with everyone. He's carefree and he tries to make every group seem welcome and homey. He himself is working on making friends, but he's succeeding, seeing as he has extensive knowledge on social skills. Don't worry about sending him friend requests - he loves them.

He hates bullies or people who take advantage of others. He especially dislikes those who believe they are better than others, and can't stand pompous attitudes, seeing as he had to deal with them all his life. A hikkikomori, Night was the son of an Englishman and a young Japanese woman. He had always had a fondness for games - mainly because his parents were so distant. He very quickly rose through the ranks and proved himself to be excellent at video games. Mainly console, but computer games as well. Always under the pseudonym Night, taking inspiration from his real last name. [break][break]
SAO had given him some initial pause, which was why he declined the beta testing. He wasn't sure what being inside a simulation would be like - he was quick with his fingers, and not so much in any physical shape for that. But after hearing of its greatness, he finally caved and decided to join.[break][break]
Kayaba's announcement was a complete surprise, but to his astonishment, he wasn't exactly sad, distressed, or happy. He always would become immersed in a game, until the point that he wanted to be the best, and find all of its secrets. And that was what he has resolved to do.

Being such a NEET and a shut-in, his friendship skills are far below par. He's prickly and hard to get close to, seeing as he's haughty and proud, plus a bit commandeering due to his success in video games. He's a solo player, but here in this game, he is trying hard to get to know others and to improve on his attitude. Just be wary - he might be extremely snappy and moody.

Basically anyone who will get in his way or tries to deter him. This includes anyone who insults him. He's not the type to be extremely impulsive, rather being calculative, but his anger is the kind that exudes cold, and he is not someone you should try to anger. He also might seem as if he dislikes anyone who attempts to make him open up, but that's just Night being shy.
