[attr="class","strawberry"] [attr="class","coconut"]KILLER QUEEN She didn't seem like the type that wanted to be coddled or worried over. So instead of expressing concern, Areto gave her a light-hearted smile. " You did great," he said. " But where is the kid?" Perhaps this was apart of the quest. The NPC going missing for a bit when there was someone attacking the quest-goers. However, how would they find such a small child in this much overgrowth? Areto frowned slightly and made his way off their path, peeking past a few bushes, though careful not to stray far. The NPC couldn't have gone far especially if they were scared. And if it was a small child then perhaps they found somewhere to hide where no one else could easily get to them. " Do any of these trees have small holes in them that a child could crawl through," Areto asked. " They can't have gone far without us." It would do well for the two of them to find the child before any of the nepents did. Who knows what would happen if the NPC died before the quest was finished. Areto busied himself with checking the base of a few trees nearest to them before spreading out to others that were a little ways away. Comic seemed as if she was out of breath and he wasn't keen on leaving her behind if he could help it especially with there being so many nepents in the vicinity. If only it was exhaustion that was sweeping over her. She wanted more of these dangerous situations. She wanted to be knee-deep in that shit again. Feeling her body move around at her command, with a weapon in her hand, and plenty of danger around her - that was the place to be, the place to vent a lot of her anger, her darker motivations. It was the only place, right now, that she could do it. Bar brawls weren't enough to stop it.
He said she was great. She righted herself and grunted in response. Yeah, that felt good to hear, but it wasn't true. Not to her, yet. Not when he had an easier time, it seemed, wiping them from the face of the planet. She would need to do more, be more, become more. She kept her blade drawn, flipping it to the other side in her hands. The question of where the boy went was of more importance than her role in this area.
Comic considered the tree approach - the holes - and then decided, instead, to check up. Perhaps he climbed up into a branch, or an outlying branch. While her compatriot checked into the trees and underbrush, she kept her gaze above, looking for signs of movement or disturbances among the leaves. He had to show up, at some point.
"Well, fuck."

[attr="class","strawberry"] [attr="class","coconut"]KILLER QUEEN This was a tricky situation. If they made too much noise then it could cause another attack to happen and draw more nepents to their location. The NPC would only grow fearful and probably recede further into their hiding place or find a new one if that were to happen. On the other hand, if they continued scouring through the fields, they may find something worse than a nepent to worry about. Areto muttered a little prayer before poking his head into another hole only to come up empty. He stood up to turn back and tell Comic that there was still no sign of hte child. Only to find that she was focused on staring up at the trees rather than the holes. Well, that gave them more ground to cover. Areto hummed and tried to think. Where would a scared child go when the danger in front of them was steadily rising? Comic was looking above and he was looking below but what if the child was hiding somewhere in plain sight. Areto made his way over to the path and glanced around, checking the bushes nearest them to them first before taking a few steps out. " Hey," he called. " It's all clear now." Almost as if a switch had been flipped, the child came out of hiding and approached the path to where they were both standing. Though still quivering and shaking, the child didn't move. " Oh.." Areto moved back to Comic and gestured to the NPC. " I think that's a function in the quest. If we tell them to hide, they hide somewhere near by and when it is all clear. We have to tell them it's all clear." Fruitless moments passed, with a building apprehension and annoyance. If the NPC was killed, would they be notified and the quest auto-fail? Or would she be forced to tote around this quest until he respawned after being fake-digested by plant mulch? A few scenarios ran around in her head, and she wasn't keen on any of them. She wasn't keen on fighting more of those plants, either; they had an odd reach, and didn't work out with her heavily melee in-your-face approach.
It was only after the magic phrase was spoken that the child popped in. Comic quirked a brow and pushed weight to one leg; if that was all it took to summon a scared kid... well, this was certainly easier than life. She moved up to the child-npc and looked down at them with a blank expression.
"Hrm." Kneeling a bit, she stared him in the face. "Being scared gets you no where. You can't let them know you're scared." She showed him a clenched fist, nodded her head, and then resumed her regular stance and height, looking around. No signs of additional nepents, no sound of craziness around them...
"Let's move."

[attr="class","strawberry"] [attr="class","coconut"]KILLER QUEEN Areto didn't say a word as Comic reprimanded the NPC. Rather, he smiled to himself. Even if she didn't seem like someone that wanted to talk. There was a goodness in her or at least a warmer side to her that he hadn't noticed before. He watched as the NPC wiped tears from her eyes and followed along after Comic though stopping to survey their surroundings for a moment. Areto hummed and walked forward, ushering the NPC along. It wouldn't do well if the child got lost again or drew attention from any mobs that were waiting for them along the outskirts of the forest. He glanced around. If they were guiding the child back to the village then it wouldn't be a very long ways away. There was a chance that one more mob would show up but now that they knew the phrase, it'd be easier. " Nepents," he said. " They're long-ranged enemies and make it harder for us considering that we have close-ranged weapons." He hummed softly. " It would be easier if one of us had a spear."
