Kayaba? Her brows furrowed in disgust at the little blood show that ensued just before the creator's big reveal. Talk about tasteless. Blood din't bother her much considering the line of work she was undertaking but intimidation tactics like that just left a bitter feeling. [break][break] A glance at the mirror and a flash of light enveloped her. Before Mynx knew it a familiar face was staring right back; gold eyes and all. "What is this..." her baffled and worried voice drowned out among the panicked cries of so many other players. How was is possible to project her real appearance here - down to every last detail? She even had that little freckle on her pinkie finger! [break][break] Clicking her tongue she turned to Prince. "I don't like where this is goi- huh?" Where'd he go? Her attention then focused to Goryo. He didn't look all that different, did he even use the item? "Did he take off or..." shed drifted, only then noticing the small blonde girl fretting over the situation. There was no way... [break][break] "Don't panic." [break][break] She met Goryo's gaze almost challengingly, like she'd lose her head; even in a situation like this. "Tch, like I'd do that at a time like this." Even saying that much though, all traces of the once cheery brunette were lost on the dark-skinned young woman. Confused, irritated and damn tired. Mynx wasn't in the mood. [break][break] Folding her arms under her bust she sighed. It was relieving to a point, being back in her own skin so-to-speak. But Mynx had a feeling this wasn't the end of their supposed gift. Some muffled complaints from the nearby players had her peering to see another face she recognized. It was an effort to keep her 'aww' muffled a the surprising show of affection but she managed to succeed. [break][break] "Are they with you?" [break][break] "Are we?" Mynx quirked a brow. Well, she didn't want to be the one to make this call. Tilting her head toward Prince she took a moment to gauge the girl's frightened expression Her empathetic heart ached but she did little to show it. "You doin' okay?" Her voice seemed more bored and monotonous, lacking any warm comfort, but the concerned glint in her eyes said enough to anyone who cared to study them.

Diz wasn't quite sure what to feel. Nothing about him changed but the mild horror along with surprise from other players only seemed to instill a bit of terror inside of him. But not for himself. He glanced down towards the young boy standing by his side and his companion who had an interesting shade of grey hair. He couldn't be older than Diz himself. But that was to be expected. Sometimes, Diz felt as though he was losing time while asleep. Resting a hand on Souta's shoulder, he looked up at the ominous figure and tried to make out a face or anything. Even if he called out to it from here, there wouldn't be any answer. Akihiko Kayaba. The creator of Sword Art Online. A sneaking suspicion told him that this wasn't just an event. Something else was going on and he hoped for Kayaba's sake, it wouldn't be anything that could harm the teen next to him. " Oh." Diz turned to Souta's friend and smiled, holding out his hand. " I'm Diz, it's a pleasure to meet you, though I wish it was under better circumstances." On the branches in the ditches, it's now silent and without life, And breathing becomes oh so hard for me Woe is me, oh woe, And the birds sing no more words xxx • tagged PRINCE , Mynx , otsukisensei • .... | "tch, like i'd do that at a time like this."
The Yakuza memebr just gave a snort, unimpressed or convinced by the woman's words, but if she said so then he'd ust have to take her word for it. It'd make one less problem for him to deal with.
And yet as if almost on cue, the moment the idea of finding Arata came to mind, the man wound up finding him anyway. Fingers curling around his arm, the soft call of his username, and then calling him love before giving him a quick peck on the lips. He was dramatic as ever, and still not forgiven for his treachery of calling out his first name.
With arms crossed and eyes focused on the center, the dark skinned male didn't react to the presence of his partner. In fact, it almost seemed as if he was being ignored. Perhaps this wasn't the time for such petty grudging, but Goryo had never been on the norm of anything.
" Let's go. " he stated, uncrossing his arms. He glanced towards Mynx and Prince before turning his attention to Otsukisensei, calmly taking a step forward and gently making his way through the crowd towards the middle. If they stayed, they'd be trampled by the enourmous amounts of players wanting to get out of the town square as far as they can. Taking their time after everyone had left would be better and less exhausting.

Ruler wasn't sure what to think of the situation. No explanations were forthcoming. Not from Diz. Not from Farmsalot, either. Realising that Farmsalot was now looking at him, Ruler felt doubly embarrassed about having made an older looking avatar. He couldn't bear look at Farmsalot, so he quickly averted his gaze, and stammered agreement: he was Ruler. Still, Ii had to think about how Farmsalot hadn't changed much, or hadn't looked like he'd changed much. The difference was subtle, but... I guess he just wanted to look like himself. "Um... this is Diz, my cousin," he added to Diz's introduction. With an almost guilty look in his eyes, he faced Farmsalot and opened his mouth to speak, but he wasn't sure what he wanted to say, so he shut it again. He cast a look towards the floating figure; what was the goal of all this? Wasn't the fantasy of a game being someone else?

Farms' gaze was quickly taken away from Ruler, now giving his attention to this new man who had appeared. Apparently he had some relation to Ruler from outside of the game, something which was sure to be a comfort to him in this difficult situation. This was doubly true considering the new information that the man he once thought to be his elder looked like he was still in high school. While he may have been the same age just a few years ago, he knew all too well the difference such a small period of time could make. And if he were in this situation at that age he knew for a fact he wouldn't be as calm as he was now.
A weak smile forced it's way through the complex emotions spread across his face, reaching his hand out to Diz and giving it a firm shake. "Shoichi. Or...Farmsalot, as I'm known here I suppose." Despite how surreal these events were he couldn't shake the feeling that they were just as real as the people involved. Why would they send such a sinister figure to calm a crowd? It was almost as if they were trying to make the crowd grow even more fearful. "I was thinking the same thing myself. This is hardly how I expected to spend my time in this game."
Eyes looked slightly downward at Ruler, the young man clearly showing signs of distress. He could only assume he was uncomfortable with the events occurring, something he could very much relate to. Still forcing a smile onto his face he gave him a pat on the back, hoping some physical contact may be enough to pull him away from his worries. "Don't forget, this is all just a game. We may be stuck here, but at least we're safe." It was true, the reports of comatose players was very concerning. But their presence in the game meant that they were still very much alive. All they would have to do is shut down the servers and remove the headsets and everything would be back to normal. The people who should be worried are the developers who are likely going to lose a number of players over this mistake.

t was a easier for a girl to impersonate a guy? Was that really her reasoning her? To believe something so heinous and incorrect was absolutely disgusting. But the gears started to turn in that head of his. He knew for a fact that a girl trying to be a guy yielded better results when it came to convincing others of the facade. He knew that if he himself had done something like that, he'd be the worse male-to-female crossover ever. Because of this, he let her have this one. Point: Castiel...a. The woman's entire demeanor just screamed irritated. It seemed whatever happened within the last fifteen seconds led her to that phase that women go through when dealing with men. It was a rather comical look, her arms crossed over her chest as she huffed and puffed about the tables turning. It was now him looking down on her, something she probably hated and would seethe about later on in her young adult life. As for King, he was amused by the woman's antics, wearing nothing but a smile on his face. That was until she pinched his cheek and started talking again! "H-Hey!" The man did some weird kung fu swing with his arms, trying to bat away the pinching that assaulted his beautiful skin. "Do you mind?" He groaned at the mentioning of his gray hair. Thank you, Castiela. "What if I did that to you, huh?" Childish as ever, he attempted to pinch her cheeks, pressing the skin of her virtual body into a tight squeeze. "I think you've got some gray hairs too. It just means we've been through a lot of stress, alright?" Whether it was a fact or a myth, he was trying to justify the presence of these gray invaders on his scalp simply to avoid his own embarrassment of how old he was. "How old are you anyway?" Diz looked towards his younger cousin and then upwards to the ominous figure. Whatever he had to say was something that could be addressed later. Tightening his grip on his cousin's shoulder to garner his attention, Diz spoke hurriedly. " I'm going to see if there is anyone that knows what is going on." He turned his attention to Farmsalot, the name was odd enough, but funny. However this wasn't the time to laugh and he wasn't quite in the mood. Diz nodded his head to the younger man. " Please look after him in my absence." Without waiting for a goodbye or a send off, he turned and headed back into the crowd. It was the first time that he ever lied to Ruler. Diz had a sneaking suspicion from the wave of terror that no one knew what was going on. But if Ruler had someone to look after him, Diz could do as he pleased without fear that his cousin would suffer the repercussions. The samurai opened up his menu and read over what was there before making his way out of the crowd. He cast one wary glance over his shoulder, muttering a soft prayer to any god that could hear them, and hurrying away. News would reach him late as it always had but there were other things to attend to first. Paxilon was excited. The first out of beta server wide announcement was the true moment where he realised how amazing this game was. With a smile, he looked around for his sister. He was pretty sure the announcement's teleport put party members close to each other, but his sister had insisted on killing things separately to see if she could level up faster than him. He sighed inwardly and spotted his sister quite a bit of distance away, really popping out in the crowd.
Seeing how she had changed her avatar to be so different than her real self made him regret making his avatar so similar to his own boring body. That black-brown hair that came down to his shoulders was actually a little longer and neater than his own. That, and he was half a foot taller than his real self, as well. He hated that he was so short. He grinned to himself as he walked towards his sister. At least he was taller than she was.
It was then that he felt it. A sudden sense of dread as the panicked crowd hushed itself. He looked up to where the entire crowd had focused its attention and grimaced. He didn't grimace because of fear or awe. The scowl on his face was cause by the lack luster performance he was being given. Blood? Really? Surely Kayaba could have done much better than that. But what happened next made him forget all about his disgust at the poorly executed introduction.
Pax felt his eyes get dry, as if he hadn't blinked in hours. His throat suddenly felt swollen, like a newly inflated basketball. A shiver went down his spine and he felt cold. This was fear. Fear he hadn't felt since he was thirteen years old. The maws of Death looming over him like a mountain looms over a flower. And then he smiled. And then he laughed. Not the laugh of someone who snapped, but rather much warmer. The mirror didn't change much other than his height. He would complain about that some time later, though. For now, he gaze snapped to his sister. There was no time to waste.
"Kie," he said almost too calmly, "We need to get started."
He grabbed his sister firmly by the wrist and started dragging her away from this madness. They had to get all the quests done that they could, before everyone else realised what just happened. Kayaba was not joking, he could tell. And besides, this would be the sickest joke he'd ever heard of. No, they were stuck here. His fear melted into determination to live. The cold that had racked his body turned into a fire burning in his core. He was a gamer, after all.
"Right, Kie," he looked back at his sister with a smile, "Resources and quests are limited, and we have to be the best, right? So, they're all going to be ours. We'll conquer this game like we conquer every game. Just remember not to die."

Before he knew it, his cousin had abandoned him. Ruler trusted that Diz simply had someplace else to go. Maybe look for a friend of his and see if they were all right, too. Ruler was suddenly acutely aware of how little he knew about Diz's life outside of the obvious. It was reasonable for Diz to run off, though. He was right: Ruler had Farmsalot looking after him, and the guy's presence was somewhat calming. At the very least, Farmsalot himself exuded such calm in the face of all this, Ruler almost embarrassedly thought he might've been overreacting. He inhaled sharply, then breathed out. "Yeah. We're safe. It'll be okay," Ruler said, partially for his own sake. "Those news messages, though... Why would they show those?" It was something that didn't quite add up. What was the purpose of showing them footage of comatose players, if there wasn't any explanation yet for what was going on? Ruler inhaled sharply again. He decided he would not panic. His gaze returned to the floating man, his expression hard. "I don't like this 'ceremony' at all." His hands balled into fists.

With the hurry Diz seemed to be in Farms didn't bother responding with anything but a firm nod. He was glad that there were people like that, willing to dive into something like this and try to find an answer. If it weren't for them, people like himself wouldn't be able to stay calm in these situations. Hopefully this man would be able to find what he was looking for among the crowd.
Eyes stayed fixed on the crowd, watching as more and more people were engulfed in blue light only to look like a new person when it faded. It must have been very embarrassing for many of them, as it seemed that most of the players designed their characters to be absolutely nothing like their true selves. Men were women, some women were men, the short were tall, the small were big... He simply couldn't understand why Kayaba would take away that vital aspect of the fantasy world he worked so hard to create. With a calm, deep breath Farms took a moment to consider that maybe the customized appearances were the cause of the problem. Maybe with those gone they can start to fix the logging issue.
Then there was the matter of the reports. Those were an odd choice to say the least. But it was still nothing that some sound reasoning couldn't explain. "It's likely just their way of informing us that they are aware of the situation. They know we're trapped here, and with the media hounding them I'm sure they'll work as fast as they can to fix this." Much like Ruler, Farms' words were just as much for himself. But no matter how unlikely that story may be, there was still a chance of it being true. And that chance was just about all he had at the moment. "I don't like it either. But it should be over soon." Hopefully.

She'd been in the process of meeting a few fans when all of them were suddenly dropped into the beginning area of the game. A glitch? Event? By the looks of the number of players present, it was probably the latter. It was odd to have an event take place like this though - wouldn't just having some sort of information message pop up in front of the player's face be more effective and less disruptive? Regardless of what she thought about it, Kiki just accepted the fact that she was here now. Though, when the sky turned red with warning signs, she really didn't want to be there anymore. This was definitely... New. As fluid oozed out of the ceiling, her focus shifted to the crowd briefly. It was massive, but the person she was looking for shouldn't be too hard to find, right? Slipping along as the frightening figure of the game's creator took form in the sky, she squeezed her way through the crowd until spotting a familiar blue head in the distance. Squirming her way to him, she slowed just as Sonic's figure - and numerous others - flashed a blueish color. Some changed, but Sonic stayed the same. There was confused cries of you're a girl? and you're a guy? among the crowd, along with questions about why their appearances changed, things of that nature. It was then that she finally noticed the new item in her inventory. She made her way up next to Sonic as she plucked out the item and found herself baffled by the mirror that formed in front of her. But then, she was cast in that familiar blue light and one moment she had her short hair in it's messy bun, then the next, her hair fell from it's bun to hanging free and long behind her. Suddenly short shoulder length hair was falling to her thighs like usual, but it shouldn't have been, right? Kiki moved up next to Sonic and reached out to promptly grab his sleeve. Stepping up next to him, she looked up to him worriedly. " Rara, do you know what's going on?" she softly asked, her IRL nickname for him slipping out in her moment of fear. Her gaze turned towards the man floating in the sky above them and then she took notice of the screens. News stations, families, comas? Her eyes traveled over the images before taking notice of the game and coma relation. Her grip on Ranma's sleeve slowly tightened as panic sank in.

[attr="class","link-back"] [attr="class","link-text"] [attr="class","link-text2"]The hooded figure stirred again. "As you can probably see from the vidscreens, the outside world has become aware of what's occurring. As of this moment, I am in control of this world." He paused for effect. "I'm sure all of you have noticed a feature missing from your main menus; the logout button. Let me assure you, this is not a defect, but intentional. This was how Sword Art Online was designed to be." He cycled through the main menu as he spoke, showing the logout button to the players, before he closed the menu.
"You will not be able to log out of this game, nor will anyone in the outside world be able to remove your NERVEGEAR. The only way for you to return to the outside world is by conquering all one-hundred floors in Castle Aincrad."
Kayaba held out his hand to the players and motioned towards the bar which would have been floating somewhere on their HUD.
"Though be aware, if your health points fall to zero in the game, you will die." He declared. "Here and in the real world. The NerveGear will let off an electromagnetic wave which will promptly fry your brain's electrical circuits moments after death."
A wave of despair seemed to fall over them but he continued speaking as though he did not notice at all. Whether they despaired or not was unnecessary in hindsight, nothing could change what was to come.
"If the power is cut for too long to your headset, the unit in your headset will fry your brain, and you will die. If an attempt is made to remove the headset, the unit in your headset will fry your brain, and you will die." He shifted. "Despite my warnings, some family and friends of players have attempted to remove the unit. An unfortunate decision to say the least. As a result of this and haphazard decisions on the part of the players, the game now has 213 less players than when it originally began. However, due to the media coverage you see before you, the likelihood of accidents with removal of the device is minimal. Your bodies will be transported safely within the next hour to hospitals within your proximity and you will be kept alive with life support for the duration of the game." He was clearly not an unfair host.
"Despite what you may believe, Sword Art Online," Kayaba paused as if musing. "No. Aincrad is not a game. This is your reality."
With another curt bow, the figure began to fade away as quickly as he had come. The hexagons vanished one by one leaving a sky twinged orange by the setting sun. Yet a voice called out to the players who were left in the creator's wake.
"This marks the end of the tutorial, and the beginning of Sword Art Online. I wish you the best of luck, denizens of Aincrad, may you find glory and prosperity."
A challenge or a mocking omen.
The game would now begin. You may continue to post in the thread for as long as you would like, but as it was a recording of Kayaba Akihiko, there will be no more feedback from Kayaba at this time.

It was just a distraction. A simple way for her to take her mind off of potentially losing the avatar she had worked so hard in making. Others who may have glimpsed at them might've thought they were immature and idiotic to be playing around in a seemingly dire situation. Still, Eve ignored her surroundings and tried to keep up her spirit.
The mirror and altering their appearances was an unorthodox event. She forced herself to believe it as she pushed herself to smile a bit more when King swiped her hands away from his visage. "Stop it!" Eve laughed before trying to cover her cheeks with one hand and parrying King's incoming attack.
"I do not have gray hair." Abandoning the defense of her cheeks, her hands flew to her hair as if they would suddenly fade into the old people color. She pulled a few strands over her shoulder, double checking if indeed there were stray gray hairs. Relieved to see that none of them were of that particular shade, Eve waggled a finger at him. "Didn't anyone ever tell you that it's considered rude to ask a woman's age?"
No matter how much Eve was trying to block out what was happening around them the large and towering figure resumed his announcement again, causing the young woman to pay attention. Kayaba's words seemed to be entering her ears, but they made no sense to her. No log out? Hospitals? Death?
This was their reality?
Eve was blanking out. Her expressions shifted quickly from confusion to disbelief to horror before settling into nothing. After Kayaba disappeared and the ending announcement taunted them, she turned to her partner. Though no words were coming from her, the detective was looking at King as if he held the answers.

Her ears twitched a little upon hearing a familiar voice. "SNOOOOOOOOWWWW!!" she shouted, following the familiar voice. She pushed and shoved until she could see her sister approaching her. Maisie practically jumped into Snow's arms once they were close enough. She was still scared to death, anxiety screaming inside of her, but she found comfort in this moment of having her sister. The world could be falling apart around her and she'd find a way to be okay if Snow were there.
The world may not be falling, but her stomach was soon dropping rapidly.
The news screens flashed confusing, alarming headlines. ARGUS users dying, going comatose upon removing headset, Sword Art Online players in danger. She couldn't make sense of what was going on. Her mouth opened and a slew of questions came sputtering out. She didn't really expect to get any answers to them. It was a way to keep her thoughts from overloading her.
She would occasionally throw an angry comment at the giant hooded figure floating in the sky. She didn't know who this Kayaba Akihiko thought he was, but floating up in the sky like some kind of wizard was a silly thing to do!
Maisie was so caught up in her own actions she hadn't even noticed that her mirror had taken effect and changed her appearance. It was fairly minor. Most of the sharp features of her face rounded out, her hair got a tad shorter, the blond got a little darker. Her verbal flow slowed down as she saw Snow's hand enter her field of vision.
"Oh Snow, what is it-" The last of her question got caught in her throat as she saw her sister. It had been years since she had seen her, yet she could tell that she was looking at her sister. It was almost enough to make her cry on the spot. She was motionless as Snow touched her braids. Maisie couldn't believe that Snow had kept the same hairstyle. She would always tell her friends that she preferred braids because they were easier, but it was because it was the one reminder of her sister that she still had.
Maisie's hands were shaky as she wrapped her fingers around Snow's arm. She couldn't help wanting to cling to her. Everything had to be alright. This was suppose to be one of the best days of her life. She was suppose to reunite today. Why did this have to happen?
"We're going to be alright, right Snow?" Maisie asked, her voice shaky. "We still have so much to do together. You have to show me Tokyo U and I've got to show you the countryside and I've gotta be one of your bridesmaids... Everything's gotta be okay."
