DaT laughed. She hurried ahead then stopped, barring Gran's path. Her smile widened. She pointed northeast, far in the distance. "Nishishi~ Gran, do you know what's over there?" She knew the answer. The Northeastern Lake. A mass of water you could traverse only by boat, though it was much safer to go around. She'd hassled someone for that bit of info when she heard the other, more vital piece. "I'll share this one thing, since it'd only be fair. Just be careful you don't end up on that list of 'those who will be missed.'" The Monument of Life was impressive and frightening all at once. She had crossed off two names there herself. "I heard three rumours in town, and one was about you. But did you know there's two about an exit, too?" She gestured to the northeast again. "There's a logout spot there, is what they say. But then there's also one over thatta way." Now, she pointed to the northwest. The woods that lay on the other side were easy to get lost in, and dangerous besides. "Nishishishi~ what do you make of those rumours, Gran?"

Gran stopped in her tacks, looking to where the girl had pointed, and decided to take the bait, "A lake, right?"
Gran smiled and nodded seriously as the girl continued. Gran hadn't planned on dying any time soon, and she had a feeling it would be a good long while before she would even come close to dying. Looking off to where the girl had pointed, Gran pondered on what Dee could possibly be on about. She hadn't set up a network of people to feed her any info yet, so it wasn't actually that she knew anything, really. She let the girl continue, vastly curious about all of this.
Gran brought her hand up to her own face and pinched her chin between forefinger an thumb, as if deeply thinking about what it could all mean, "A hidden logout spot, hm? You know, that certainly sounds like a rumor deserving some attention."
"Alas, dearie," Gran decided what she thought about it and turned to look Dee in the eye, choosing to be completely honest, "You and I both know there's no chance of this rumor panning out for anyone. It would be a bit of a farce to get trapped here and start dying only for there to be a spot to just go and leave, don't you think? Even if there is some minor truth to the whispers of these spots, surely there's a reason that everyone hasn't rushed in there to find these spots, yes? Perhaps there is only a certain amount of log outs available. Or, even better, there's a mighty beast guarding the spot! Ohohoho~"
Gran smiled and tilted her head to the side, "No no, I'd rather say I do not believe it for a second. However, I am very interested in seeing if there's something over there that started the rumor itself. Every whisper that carries from ear to ear tends to be based on a small truth. Maybe there's no log out point, but there's most likely something of interest in its place."
"I'll have to go over there and watch all the little mice scurry around when this rumor cultivates a little more," she turned her gaze to the woods in the distance and laughed again, but much more maliciously this time. DaT

DaT knew from the start this was no ordinary grandma. She was smart, but in a different sort of way. Not in the wisdom from age sort of way, but street smarts. She had street smarts. DaT had her own theories on why these were only rumours. Most prominently, she thought someone was trying to get players killed who rushed there. There was foul play afoot. Someone out there was not aiming to win the game with everyone else. She'd have to figure out who if that was the case. "Nishishi~ well, if you're going there Gran, keep your eyes out." She rejoined Gran at her side. "Wouldn't want you ambushed and put to rout." "Speaking frankly... I think someone might be out there fooling everyone else." She did not lilt as usual, and her face was stern. "I'll check out the lake later today, just to be sure... And I'll make sure the rumour'll be widespread, so people don't rush in alone, but..." She brought a finger to her lips, and winked. "Nishishi~ keep it between us, 'kay?"

Gran with a solemn nod, stepping past the girl to continue on to Horunka. They were almost there, and she didn't want a little conversation to keep them from finishing. Thinking about it, Gran actually got a feeling in the pit of her stomach that something awful was going to happen to someone in those woods. She had learned long ago to always trust your gut on things. It was linked to your subconscious, and your sleeping mind knew far more than the waking mind could ever even begin to fathom. She looked at the girl with a smile and nodded.
"I'd like to see someone ambush an old lady," she snickered evilly, putting her hand over her mouth, "They'd just walk from their hiding spots to introduce themselves and ruin all surprise they would have been building up."
Gran's face turned serious as the girl spoke without that sing-song effort she had been. Listening intently, Gran nodded thoughtfully, "If there are rumors afoot about both locations, I'll check out the woods, myself. If there's someone planning on being a pain in the ass like this for the foreseeable future, I'd like to snap their neck now and save the trouble later."
She realised how morbid she was sounding and smiled at the child, chortling a little bit. She was trying to ease the pressure of sounding like a natural born killer. Perhaps the smile and laughing were doing more harm than good for the image. DaT

The laughing and smiling made DaT wonder whether the old lady's mind hadn't come unhinged from the pressure of being in a death game. No, nevermind that, maybe it had been unhinged from the start. Still, she felt she could trust the old woman's declaration. She didn't come off as someone with false bravado, but as someone who knew they would not be easy pickings. "Well, I'll trust that area to you then, Gran." She pointed. "I'll go to the lake. Keep an eye on people there. Not to be stingy, but if there's a troublemaker at the lake," she smiled brightly, "I'm wringing his neck." DaT clapped Gran on the back. "Nyahaha~ enough about that stuff, though! Horunka's in sight, and we're still carrying the dough! So let's put on some good cheer and a heave-ho, and we'll be all done before you know!" That Gran was actually carrying the majority of the bread in her inventory wasn't important. What was important was that they were on a quest. Together. DaT sent Gran a friend request. "Nishishi~ to stay in touch."

Gran chuckled, "It'll be a neck wringing competition, then!"
Gran chortled a bit and shook her head. She wondered if being in this game was making her soft. Normally she wouldn't have told this little girl a damn thing. The girl was intelligent, and would probably use the information against her. With a sigh, Gran picked up her pace towards the town, bread weighing heavy in her inventory.
"Indeed! We get to trade dough for dough, don't you know," she bobbed her head back and forth and hummed a little tune. As they got nearer to Horunka, she stopped to accept the friend request with a serious nod, "I wouldn't miss out on the chance for a good conversation for the life of me."
With that, they continued in to the town to find the baker. He was ecstatic in that way NPCs always were when you completed a quest. Flatly happy emotions, predictable dialogue, and a basic reward. Of course, Gran didn't mind any of that; she had made a friend. DaT
