Ruler had to keep himself from skipping across the plaza. The excitement was almost palpable. If he wasn't in a town square, he might even sing. As it was, Ruler didn't want to bother anyone with his cheer. An armour set! Before the day was over, he should have an entire set to call his own. But it'd need to be a dashing set. He needed to look like a cool knight. Ruler admitted that it was sort of a flight of fancy, and that he'd probably make a very poor impression to the more serious players by favouring some looks over function, but... Hang on. What... exactly was a 'cool' armour to Farms? The boy grimaced. What if... what if Farms had a completely different idea of cool? He was older, after all, but... Nah. Couldn't be. Cool was the universal language. For now, he just had to wait.

The craftsman looked particularly pleased with himself as he entered the town square. He may not know what the majority of people thought to be cool, but he was pretty happy with what he had come up with. Especially the crest on the helmet, Ruler was sure to appreciate that.
He took a moment to scan the area, his eyes soon settling on Ruler. Hopefully he hadn't been waiting too long, though wit how excited Ruler was about getting some new armor he wouldn't be surprised if he had shown up early. Farms started to jog over to him, not wanting to keep the guy waiting any longer than he had to. Once he got within speaking distance he would slow to a walk with a smile on his face. "It's all here. I hope that it's cool enough for you."
While he was never one for receiving praise, he had to admit he was proud of himself for what he made. He opened up his menu before glancing back to him. "Are you ready to trade?"

All his reservations about Farmsalot's sense of cool were banished when Farms showed up, looking pretty confident about the whole deal. Ruler knew he was messing with his menu or something, but none of that served to abate the lad's excitement. He hurled himself right at Farms while the man was speaking, swinging his arms around the other. "Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarms~ my favourite personnnn!" He grinned up. "Heck yes I'm ready to trade, but... ya sure you don't want anything in return? I can craft you a sword. Two swords! Three swords." He let go, and held up two hands. "Ten swords! One for every finger, and then ten for your toes!" He laughed, fully aware how ridiculous he was being. "Sorry, sorry, just being happy, being happy." He popped open the menu and initiated a trade session himself. His gaze turned serious. "Serious though? Nothing you want?"

All of this excitement was a surprise for Farms. Sure Ruler liked armor and everything, but he never would have expected this level of anticipation. His arms flew into the air as he got wrapped up in the hug, his previous pride being replaced with a nervous smile. "Don't get too excited. You haven't even seen it yet!" Now he was starting to worry that his designs wouldn't match up to all the hype.
Once he was released he would return to the interface, initiating a trade with Ruler. "Now remember, I'm no designer. I just...did whatever seemed like it would be cool at the time." As Ruler went on about the infinite amount of swords he would make in repayement, Farms simply went back to the menu and initiated the trade he was so clearly ready for.
"That won't be necessary." After putting the set of armor into the trade window he confirmed and waited for approval. "I'll tell you what though. I'm going to be needing a new spear for the labyrinth. How much will it cost if I provide the materials?" He was going to need every advantage he could get in there. Besides, Ruler seemed more than willing to help him out with this. Hopefully he would feel the same way after seeing the armor.

The tingling feeling in his stomach crawled up to his heart. Infinite swords, but Farms was apparently having none of it. He watched with excitement, waiting with bated breath for the confirmation to pop up... Nab. Ruler pressed that button harder than he'd ever pressed anything in this game. The armour landed in his inventory, and he took a good moment to gawk at the stats. Those stats were amazing. He'd be ten, no, twenty times stronger wearing all that. Two of the pieces were a little less amazing, and he considered asking Farms to see if he can retry them to make something better, but... "Whoah, Farms! I love it!" The boy hardly needed more than a minute to equip all the gear. He promptly unequipped the helmet, when he realised it was blocking his sight a bit too much, but he figured he'd equip it for combat. The boy stared down at himself. He had no mirror, so he couldn't see his entire self, but... "This is cool, just the way I'd want it." He looked up. "Ah, sorry, sorry. You were saying? A spear? Yeaaaah I can make one. Just gimme the mats." He smiled sheepishly. "I've been crafting for free for a while now... figure it's good to at least let everyone get geared up. I'll get my compensation for the effort later, once everyone's got some baseline gear and won't be troubled by the first floor monsters." He held up a hand for a high-five, and grinned.

The craftsman waited in silence as Ruler accepted the exchange and equipped the pieces. They looked good as he was concerned, but would Ruler feel the same way? His response allowed for him to finally relax, letting out his held breath. "I'm glad you like it. I was worried that I misunderstood what you were after." As he often reminded people when designing their equipment, he was no fashionista. He simply did what he thought looked nice and fit their requests. Fortunately that worked out rather well for him thus far.
He nodded in agreement with regards to the spear, pleased that he was willing to accept that as an adequate form of repayment. It wasn't as if he was going to need twenty swords or anything. "So, you've been helping people out have you? I'm very glad to hear that." It always gave him hope when he heard of players selflessly helping one another. Especially with something as major and equipment. "It's a good idea. I bet that people will be very encouraged once we get past the first floor. Progress should help lift everyone's spirits." At least he hoped people would see it that way. "So you really like it then? The armor, I mean."

Ruler liked Farmsalot, he really did. But leaving him hanging for the high-five? That was a cruelty Ruler didn't even do to the people he only mildly tolerated. The boy lowered his hand, trying hard not to show dejection on his face. At least Farmsalot was praising him, so there was that. He'd have to make Farmsalot's spear a five-phronged one. As a subtle reminder. "Yeah, I like the armour. Good stats, good looks... Well, the stats on the chest piece and armguards look a little..." how to say this delicately, "... scrubby. Co- compared to the rest, I mean! Um, your gear's good, I swear." With so many high levels among the armour pieces, it was a shame the armguards had only hit level 29. "Um, if it's not too much effort... Think if I gather some mats again, you could give 'em another swing? Ah, the old ones you can have back after and gift to a newbie or sommat?" Ruler had to admit he wasn't entirely keen on the idea of someone else using his armour, but if the set wasn't complete, it wasn't a big deal anyway. More importantly, he'd just have to request a higher-tier version of the Cool Knight set the moment it became available. Well, he hoped Farmsalot would still be willing to do it by then.

He never was good at high fives. Or fist bumps. Or secret handshakes.
His expression drooped noticeably as Ruler examined the stats, poking at the flaws in the set. Farms was aware of this when he first crafted them and was in fact very disappointed that they came out that way. But he had hoped that the effort would be appreciated. Of course he was sure that Ruler appreciated everything and understood that it wasn't necessarily his fault."Yes I'm...Sorry about that." They were both craftsmen, so it would make sense that they could both understand how much was out of the crafter's control.
He nodded quickly, smiling weakly as his hands came together in front of himself. Iron plated fingers fumbled as he spoke, the sure sign of a man who had no idea what to do with their arms. "Of course! In fact I'm ashamed to even ask for the materials. But...it really is appreciated. I'm sure the next pieces will come out much better. If not, I'll pay for another pair myself." It would be worth it in the end. Even if the pieces didn't come out as well as the rest of the set, he would have something to give to the newer players in need of equipment to get started. "Thank you for letting me keep the failed attempts. I'll make sure they're put to good use."
Arms fell back to his side as he took a deep breath, his expression slowly relaxing until he was back to his regular more composed self. Having a fellow craftsman examine your work was always going to be a stressful thing. "So, did you have anything else you wanted to discuss? If not I could get right started on your new equipment right away."

Ruler knew there was no need to apologise for a craft gone bad. If there was, he figured he'd have a tonne of apologising to do for all the failures he'd effected. While he was fine with trying until success, there was one thing he could not abide. "Farms! You don't have to pay for me." The boy crossed his arms and pouted. "It happens, and it's not your fault. So if this one flubs, just fuggedaboutit and I'll use the very best you made." He grinned, lightly tapping Farms's chest. "Besides, it's already really good. Really, really good." Even if he had no clue about armour and the best stats it could provide. The levels were his only aide. Ruler made a dismissive gesture when Farms mentioned the giveaway freebies, and said it'd be quite all right. It wasn't anything big. He frowned thoughtfully, then shook his head. "No, I don't have anything else to discuss, I think... unless... well, d'ya plan to go into the labyrinth? It's opened, right?"

Farms immediately put his hands up in front of him, admitting defeat to Ruler with regards to the materials. "Alright, alright. I'll let you pay for the materials or whatever is needed. Assuming you do the same for me, of course." He had to admit it was a bit silly having to fight over who would pay for what. Normally people would argue or bicker to avoid paying money, not to ensure they did. Not that it was the strangest thing he encountered in this place.
It was always reassuring to hear his armor being praised, even if it did make him uncomfortable. "As long as you like the look of it I'm satisfied. I imagine we'll be upgrading eventually, so if there's any changes you think of before then let me know." He was a little surprised that they shared the same idea of what cool armor looked like. Maybe he wasn't as out of touch as he once thought.
Eyes immediately turned to the white tower looming in the distance as it was mentioned. "Yeah. I'll be going as soon as I get my weapon." It didn't even occur to him that he was speaking to the one who would be providing said weapon. But it was true. That was the final piece of the puzzle before he could start with the real fight. "I doubt it will be easy, but in a strange way I'm looking forward to it. Entering the labyrinth will be out first real step toward freedom."

Ruler grinned triumphantly, and gave Farmsalot a thumbsup. He didn't think any particular changes were necessary. The helmet was a bit obtrusive, but Ruler figured he'd just wear it during combat and keep it off when it wasn't necessary. Stats trumped comfort, in that case. Having a sword through the head was also not comfortable. Ruler felt strangely self-conscious when Farmsalot mentioned the weapon. He knew he was supplying weapons that would be used to fight monsters, and he hoped they would be of use in the labyrinth. It was only then that Ruler truly understood how gravely necessary they were. He couldn't just charge a lot of col to 'make up' for his initial investment costs. These were investments in everyone's future, and he needed to be more considerate of that. "I'll craft the best spear I can," Ruler declared. He followed Farms's gaze to the looming tower in the distance. "I still think it's... I'm worried, to be honest. If... and this, um, this is only a really big if... if a group goes in and dies there... Won't everyone be really distraught?" It was a worst-case scenario that they might never be able to clear even the first floor. A hundred floors was only a dream if the first was unbeatable, or came at too large a cost.

Farms gave Ruler a confident smile, nodding firmly in response. He knew Ruler was going to put his all into his work, just as he was sure that he always did. The first spear he crafted for him had served it's purpose quite well thus far. Though he suspected that an iron weapon would be significantly better, if his experience with armor was any indicator.
Gaze returned to the labyrinth, hands curling into fists and resting on his hips. "Of course, there's a chance that will happen. There's always a chance that someone, or everyone, will die in there. And if that happens there's sure to be people who lose hope. Especially people who lose friends and even family to it." He let out a heavy sigh and shook his head before turning his attention back to Ruler. He didn't like thinking about those possibilities, but it was the truth. "But if I have to choose between risking my life to do what needs done or sitting on my hands and doing nothing? I'll risk my life every time."
He came to terms with the possibility of dying. In fact that was the very first hurdle he had to jump after the announcement took place. If weren't for that he would still be resistant to the idea of fighting. "Besides, even if some of us die I'm sure our sacrifices will inspire people to step up and take their place." He had the utmost faith in the human spirit. So long as people had that hope, even if not all of them got to see the end of it, they would make it out of here as a whole. "What about you? Will you be entering the labyrinth? There's no shame in staying behind."

"I don't know yet." Ruler focused on a pebble by his feet, moving it back and forth with his foot. "I've thought about it a bit, but... I don't know yet if I want to enter the labyrinth." His friend was admirable. Ruler already knew that. With his bowlcut and calm demeanor, Farms looked almost ordinary and unimpressive, but his strength of character was amazing. Ruler wanted to believe the same. That people would willingly risk themselves for someone else. That there would be a group of people like Farmsalot: willing to risk their lives for the sake of everyone else. The boy just wasn't sure he was among them. A feeling nagged at him, refusing to think he could want to do it for the sake of everyone. Some glorious self-sacrifice. He took a deep breath. "Um, well... if you're definitely going, I should try my very hardest at that spear of yours, huh." He tried to make it sound light-hearted, and grinned awkwardly. "Anything specific you'd like for the spear?" It would become the spear that'd protect Farmsalot, and whoever went with him. Ruler was sure it needed to be a formidable weapon.

Farms nodded slowly at Ruler's answer, offering him a comforting smile. "That's fine if you don't want to. We all have our own roles to fill. But if you ever change your mind, let me know. I'll do everything I can to make sure you get out of there alright." A hand moved to rest on the weaponsmith's shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "You can count on that."
After the initial sappyness he pulled his arm back, allowing it to hang at his side as he considered the spear. He couldn't think of anything that would make too much of a difference. "Aesthetically you can do whatever you like with it. You've come a long way, so I trust that what you make will be far improved from your earlier work." While that copper spear may have been enough to get him by in the wild lands, it was still a lower ranked weapon. He was going to need something considerably beefier to face the creatures of the labyrinth. "Just give it your all, that's all I can ask."

Although he knew it was fine not to be too eager to stand on the frontlines, Ruler was still happy Farmsalot told him it was fine. He still felt bad about leaving the fighting to others. Farmsalot's promise only intensified that. Look at me. I'm friggin' seventeen. Nearly adult. But I'm still letting others protect me. He tried to distract himself by thinking about swords. No, that wasn't right─spears. He needed to think long, hard shafts. Spearheads. Review everything he knew about spears. A copy of Sonic's spear probably worked, but Ruler wanted to make Farmsalot's a little special. He also kinda wanted to work in a high-five somewhere, and maybe Farms would understand the importance of not leaving a buddy hanging. A five-pronged spear sounded interesting. Ruler licked his lips. "Oh, I'll give it my all, don't worry." He rubbed his hands. "So um, unless there's anything else... I'll get started."
