Loading into the game was one of the most awesome experiences that little Albedo had experienced in his short lifetime. Eighteen years of age, his avatar brimming with life and a youthful glow, he looked like a green adventurer right out from a fairy tale. White hair blew in an artificially generated wind that he could actually feel on his skin, his blue eyes even felt a little sore and dry in the wind. He was looking out over a landscape that looked entirely real to him... a world. A home. A town square that was bustling with people, both player and non-player alike. It looked like an actual community to him.
He could live here, it was so real.
He took a deep inhale and could swear that he tasted a slight tang in the air, like fresh bread mixed with the ash of a forge. He placed his hands on his hips and nodded. A wide grin spread across the albino's face and he jogged up to the fountain in the middle of the square, near the quest board. He jumped up onto the edge of the fountain nimbly, turned around and bellowed:
"LOOKING FOR PARTY MEMBERS TO JOIN A PARTY. LET'S GO WHACK SOME OF THESE QUESTS OUT OF THE WAY AND GET TO RAIDING AS FAST AS POSSIBLE!" His voice was full of cheerful optimism... and a little bit of naivete. Gamers were a horribly callous bunch.

Areto's shoulders sagged and a yawn escaped him.
Was it even possible to play a game for so long and feel tired or was he just that inactive?
His stamina was steadily dropping from running himself ragged all over town. Eating with Reveska, embarking on a mission, speaking to other players, it was all so much fun but also so exhausting. Areto crossed his arms over his head and stretched until his shoulder popped. That felt nice. It was still hard to believe that his actual body was laying motionless while he was moving around in Aincrad. Seemed as though the power of the mind truly knew no bound after all.
Thinking about giving the local inn a try, he made his way back to the Town of Beginnings and walked across the square before hearing a loud shouting. A young man was perched on the fountain's edge shouting about wanting to make a party and go on a raid. Areto raised an eyebrow and despite his better judgments, made his way through the sea of beta testers and NPCs alike, so that he could stand in front of the white-haired young man and grin.
"Raiding," he said inquisitively. "Quests?"
As if looking around to see if anyone was watching, he smiled brightly.
"Where do I sign up?"

So far, things had been going pretty well for Sang. This had been his first time trying out any sort of MMO in a long while - or any game, period, honestly - and the experience was almost overwhelming for him, in a good sort of way. He had spent the first few minutes after first logging in just getting used to the feel of the game - and it actually felt real, the tactile sensations of jumping and doing pointless and entirely-unnecessary dodge-rolls.
The soreness from performing said dodge-rolls on the hard ground made him grin, rather than grimace, though. He hadn't been in the game circuit for a while, but this definitely seemed to be something that would hook his attention and keep him playing. And if he liked it, then his sister was going to love it when he finally got her all set up. Dusting himself off and looking down at his gloved hands, he smiled and confidently made his way towards the center of town...
"... Hm?"
Oh. Somebody had started rallying for a party already! From the sounds of it, the guy wanted to speed through to... Raids? Sang shook his head, still trying to absorb the terminology of the game. Regardless, getting right down to business and skipping the trivial stuff was right up his alley. He deftly maneuvered on over towards the fountain, coming to a stop just before the short, white-haired shouting person.
"Huh. Y'know, you make a lot of noise for such a short guy." Sang smirked mirthfully at the adventure-seeker, raising a hand in greeting. "If you're looking for somebody to party with, I can be your tall and mysterious counterpart, eh? Name's Sang."

ARETO , sang He hadn't expected to get anyone this quickly, let alone two people approach. People always said that trying to get into the beta tests or the first days of a game launch really sucked, but to be honest, there were so many friendly people who were all working to the same goals if you were at the front of the pack-- and these two were no exception it seemed. He glanced down at the first guy when he approached and grinned. "Right here, sir. Let's see here." He swiped at the side of his screen once, and the menu appeared in front of him. It was the one jarring thing about this world. The tiny messages that would crop up, or the menus. Definitely didn't help with the immersion into the experience, but he figured that he'd get used to it. He pressed through what he thought would be likely menu options until his screen settled on an «INVITE TO PARTY» button. A few more clicks, and Areto would have a party invite floating in front of him, beckoning with its little blue approval button. Meanwhile, while they got into a party, the other member had approached. Albedo looked up at him with a bit of a strained laugh. "Hey, y'know man, it's just the avatar, right?" He commented. "Small means I get to dodge quicker." He swiped through the menus in the same motions, and soon Sang would also have an invite in his display. He looked at their two names after they accepted. SANG -- LV 1 and ARETO -- LV 3... Level 3?! Holy crap, this guy was leveling so fast. He had only just logged in. Jackpot! Maybe this guy would know where the quest was! "Welcome, I'm Albedo." He pointed vaugely where his name should display ALBEDO -- LV 1 on the two of their screens. "Y'know, like the display says. I only just logged in maybe half an hour ago, so I don't have a firm grasp on the controls just yet. But, hey. MMOs are MMOs, right? You play one, you've played them all. Nice to meet you." He sounded a bit odd in his speaking. A lot of slang was being used, but his vocabulary had a lot of polite connotation. It also sounded a little feminine in nature, although his voice was relatively masculine. "So, I was planning to gun for Hog Wash, just because it looks relatively easy with a high reward. Any objections?"

A party invite popped up in front of Areto and he stared in awe at the user interface. It was so strange how things like this could be in 3D and so close to his face. Constant reminders that he wasn't in his world but in a world someone else created. This world that was so life-like and similar. Someone chimed into the conversation from behind him and Areto glanced over his shoulder in mock surprise only to find a tall stranger with dark hair. He tilted his head to the side, hearing the other speak to the white haired player, and once Areto accepted the party invite — two new names popped up on near their heads.
ALBEDO — LVL 1 SANG — LVL 1
Glancing towards his own, Areto nearly jumped back in surprise.
ARETO — LVL 3
Well, that was new. It would explain why he was constantly hearing fanfare and noticing that he could allocate points into his stats. Preferring to with CON for right now seeing as it would suck if he was constantly being attacked and died early on from a lack of HP. Or maybe it was because he was playing the safe route. Oh, who knew. Chiming back into the conversation, he smiled wholeheartedly at Albedo. Video games and MMOs were one of his favorite past times but a few elements of each never seemed to change no matter what or how they progressed.
"Hog Wash is fine with me," he said. "What about you, Sang?"

Sang hadn't noticed the other adventurous spirit that had jumped at the call until just now, the other guy's voice making him turn his head to look at him. "Oh!" He smiled, bowing his head. "Sorry 'bout that, uh..." He squinted, gesturing with a hand. He hadn't actually messed around with the interface of the game yet, since he was focusing on the physical aspects of everything - and it showed. After a second of messing about, the little alert popped up on his- Or rather, in his field of view, showing him the new contact info.
"... Areto," he gave a nod of his head as he hit the requisite button to accept the invites. "Still getting used to everything here." Their names and levels appeared on the screen with a neat little chime effect - the somewhat-familiar sound was helping him to get acclimated to this strange interface quicker than he expected. Already, Areto seemed like he knew what he was doing - if that Fancy LEVEL 3 next to his name was anything to go by, at least. With him and Albedo teaming up, Sang figured, it ought to be a cakewalk to start advancing in levels here. Perfect!
"Good to meet you guys, too." He tried swiping his hand against the display, looking to find info on the quest Albedo had proposed. "Heh. Quest doesn't seem too hard. I think the three of us can knock it out in no time," he gives them an assuring grin, flicking his hand to disperse the menu. "I'm all for it. Hell, I'll even carry the stuff back when we've wrapped up, yeah?"

ARETO , sang "Nice, we got the tall guy as the pack mule." Albedo cracked with a grin as he walked over to the quest board. He poked it to activate it, quickly selected a few menu options in the air, and then the two of them would get a message in their UI asking if they wanted to join the same quest the party leader had just picked up. Meanwhile, as they accepted, he started to shuffle through his menu until he got to his quest log, pressed a few buttons and then made a movement with his fingers as if he were zooming in a picture on a tablet. "Alright, cool. It's just in the Wildlands. Not far from here. Looks like we have to go out the..." His blue eyes squinted. "Main Gate, and start walking to the edge of the Grasslands. Nice. Alright!" He shrunk the map, moved it down to the bottom right, and then clapped his hands together. "First quest, guys. So excited. It may be like any other MMO, but virtual reality? Seriously cool." He grinned as he started to walk forward. [[ Gonna post up the quest in my next post. ]]

Areto tossed a carefree smile in Sang's direction and reached out to pat his arm.
"Good luck!"
Turning his attention back to the user interface, a box popped up asking whether or not he'd like to accept the quest conditions. Tapping yes and watching the information pop up in his HUD, he minimized it for a moment and looked up at the leader of their party. His second quest in the game and it was already going nicely. Kind persons and an enthusiastic outlook on what could happen next. Areto nodded his head and followed after Albedo, giving a wave towards Sang.
"This is going to be exciting! I can't wait!"
He walked alongside Albedo, arms behind his head.
"Though, I hope we're all going to be okay.."

Sang let out a good-natured laugh as he watched the other two interact with their own interfaces. He tried to look like he knew what he was doing when playing around earlier - now he was trying to appear inconspicuous as he watched them, bringing up his own menu. The display popped up again, and he stole a few quick glances at his pair of compatriots while messing with his own display - inventory, quest log, contacts. Huh... At least he could clearly read everything.
"Don't worry, pal." The tall dark-haired guy gave Areto a light nudge to the shoulder before they started walking, nonchalantly looking up from his display. "We're going to do fine. Besides, if anything happens, I'll be carryin' all the gear - leaves you with less baggage to run with!" Despite that nagging, skeptical feeling at the back of his consciousness, Sang felt pretty confident they would be able to handle this quest - and he wanted to impart some of that confidence on his new friends.
Putting on his best collected, self-assured war-face, he jammed a hand into one of the pockets on his hand-me-down pants and took to striding confidently alongside the other two, looking towards the horizon. "Whatever happens, I'm sure this quest ain't gonna be boar-ing. Hah!"
... Now if only he could weaponize that terrible pun, surely they wouldn't have anything to fear.
