". . . you want me to, uh, kill pigs?"
Comic pressed down on her seat, temporarily turning the wooden slat of the fence into a resting spot. Exploring the outskirts of the town had been beneficial - some quest givers out here were handing out the good stuff. Combat. That was what Comic wanted to be a part of; she didn't join a virtual reality game to run around delivering bread or rent rooms. No, she came here to find that special relief she couldn't get in her job or life at home.
Five pigs, then get back safely and turn in the quest. Easy enough. The catch, like her last experience - party only. The redhead pulled back and kept an eye out; she planned on fingering the first person that didn't look useless and roping them in. Comic would do all the work if she had to; but she wasn't going to give up on a chance to kill things for a quest. This was too much of a good time and she needed to start somewhere for her loftier goals.
"Oye, amigo, quest?"

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you There was only so much one could do inside of the town. [break][break] So Aiko was out and about, dashing through the snow - grass, there was no snow - and all that jazz. Rather, on her way down a road, she had an interesting little thing happen. Normally, she was the one getting people to do shit. Roping them in, and get them moving, because she wasn't going to stand still and wait for other people to get going. She wasn't that type of girl, she liked to take charge. But it was kind of nice to see someone else get in on it - a nice little break. The blonde's face immediately broke out into a smile, as she walked towards the one that addressed her. [break][break] ''Yeah sure, let's fuck them piggies up.'' she said. Her tone was cheerful and easy going. ''What's the amount? If it's something low, do you wanna keep killing some pigs, because I'm sure as hell bored, and murdering little piggies sounds great.'' she added on, laughing a little bit. Oh she fully expected the offer to be turned down - it generally was, people didn't like sticking around too long - but she had to try. Better to try and fail then not try at all, right? That's why she was a highschool drop out. She had tried high school but fuck that noise, particularly when high school was optional you know? Though she shouldn't get to thinkin' about shit that's already over, as she ran a hand through her hair. [break][break] ''Name's Canary, yours partner?'' she asked the other girl, out of courtesy. She expected a response, not a conversation. Comic wasn't into that level of noise. She kept a playing poker face, curling her lips only slightly as she bit off more than she could chew with the blonde. She took a moment to chew on the words in her head before a response leaked - "Five pigs." - and she pulled herself off the fence and onto the dirt before her, taking the moment to navigate her menu and send the party invite. It gave her time to ignore the need to talk.
"I'm okay with killing," she said in a flat tone. She didn't make eye contact. "Comic." Only waiting on a party invite acceptance, Comic would immediately begin her walk towards what she assumed was the mob spawning area - the NPC had pointed in a direction - and tried her best to keep to herself. Tried.
Her current partner might be a bird that sings too much.

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you Oh, well that was pretty obvious. [break][break] Canary just rose an eyebrow at the other's short, to the point answers. She was probably one of those 'leave me to my own' kind of cats. Cool, whatever, she could groove with that. Honestly the tall blonde often spoke because that's what people expected, and wanted. She could do quiet too - in fact, she'd gotten precious little of that lately. What with her boys making a fuss about their boss being gone, and her family being on her case for being on the Nerve Gear too much. Well she had two words for all of that, and it was 'suck it'. Really, they couldn't let her do her own thing could they? Oh well, the blonde just clicked her tongue and cracked her neck. [break][break] A tap, and the party invite was accepted. [break][break] Comic and Canary uh? The joke could write itself. Canary's handle - not just this one, but BrokenCanary too - was partly an homage to Black Canary from the comics she loved to read. And she's paired up with a person named Comic and well, that's just hilarious. ''Coolio.'' she answered the girl's affirmative answer. Nice, short and sweet. It was easy to fall into the other's stride, letting the silence wash over the two. The mob spawning area wasn't far honestly, they never were with starter quests. Although, she had fought before so she understood the mechanics a bit. And that meant this would be fun, even as the blonde felt a grin touch her face. [break][break] The quest tagged pigs were in clear sight now. [break][break] ''Little pig, little pig, let me in.'' she whispered. [break][break] Comic[googlefont="Muli|Pavanam"]

Marisa took a moment to take in the blonde. About her height - maybe taller? - slim build, fairly good looking from a subjective standpoint. She reminded her of some of her... nightly conquests. She preferred them shorter, however. Moving past that, she took in hit points, level, username - the HUD-displayed information. Canary was a normal enough name; she didn't get stuck with someone named Dicklord at least.
Pigs sighted, though, and Comic paused and took the moment to draw her sword - the plain starter rusty blade that she found when she had finished setting up the avatar. Default settings - just based on the appearance of her facial scan and body registry - and she wondered if her partner was the genuine deal or a musty old man with an obsession of diet dew and puffed chips. Gripping the blade in one hand felt wrong, almost - her fingers itched for more, for something she could really put some weight behind. A few of the pigs meandered about, occasionally charging each other for effect - nothing serious or real in game terms.
"Split up? Left or right?" She shot her fingers in the directions as she indicated them, letting Canary take her pick of where to start on the wholesale pig slaughter.

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you She could feel those eyeballs looking at her. [break][break] Didn't bother her, let the other girl look. But only look - not touch without her permission. It's not like the other girl is ugly and all, but subtle glances were more her thing, simply because she liked to look at a lot of things at once. But hey, it could be worse right? The blonde lets out a small chuckle, before letting her left hand fall on the hilt of her blade. Pulling on it, she drew the shoddy beginner blade, letting it weigh in her hand. Eh, could be better, but the feeling of the blade? Pretty nice. This virtual reality thing is doing pretty damn good she thinks, even as she stretches her arm, sword in hand and all. [break][break] ''Yeah, herd 'em right into each other, so if one flees away from us, the other will get it. I'll take left, I'm left handed anyways. '' she said. [break][break] Her tone was still cheerful, but there was a hint of seriousness to it now. And with that decided, the blonde was off, leaving the other girl to go around to her side. The quest would probably be over quick, but that wouldn't be enough really. [break][break] Her blade cut deep into the first pig she found. [break][break] Comic[googlefont="Muli|Pavanam"]

Comic took up her position on the right, feeling the weight of the blade in her hands. It was... familiar. Much like the weight of the baseball bat they kept at work for special purposes. She tested the weight a time or two, still yearning for something to grip in both hands - something with killing power - but this would do. It would need to become a part of her arm, for now, and then she could make something of it.
Steadying herself, she thought of the combat, the stroke of the sword, and the way the cut should be made. Sword out, to the side, stance low. Her partner, Canary, was already moving into the offensive fray - slicing into a piggie. The squeal let out by one was echoed by all as they became aware of the visiting players, and Comic's movements took her forward and then - slicsh, a horizontal slash. It felt off, though, too strong, much too precise from her normal, sordid movements.
That was a sword art, she thought, feeling that bit of power in her veins as the pig behind her burst into crystalline death.

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you It didn't quite shatter, but a second strike took care of that. [break][break] The blonde wasn't going to stop at just five, that much was sure. ''Damn, it feels so fuckin' real.'' she mumbles to herself, even as her blade struck another pig. It squealed angrily, dashing towards her, but she side stepped it. ''Too slow, gotta be faster then that little pig. I dodge faster things all the time.'' she said. Another cut, and the hostile monster was cut down, more shards floating in the air. Two. Three, as the tag in from Comic snapped on her progress bar. And by now, she was aware that all the little pigs had seen them, and were gathering. Good, she wanted the great fight, even as she breathed out. [break][break] It wasn't like a street fight, the rare ones she did. [break][break] It was kind of muted, but she could see how fun it was. The burn in her muscles, the breath in her chest, the beating of her heart. But NPCs, in any game, were predictable. It wasn't as fun as fighting something on your level. Like a player. Player versus player had always been something that called her. Probably why she was one of the only people she knew in real life that played something like shooting games. Fighting games were popular, and she did those too - but shooting games had something else, something that those Westerners had known for a long time. Violence sells well, and violence is a good stress reliever. [break][break] Well, it wasn't time to contemplate, as she heads towards another little pig, her third target so far. Comic lost her view of Canary at the moment as she zoned in on her second pig. Rather than letting a sword art take over the action, she hit at it with the flat side of her sword; a hard slap that caught its attention and let her slow her own momentum to she could take in this kind of combat situation. Two people being on the offensive was enough to really drag in some aggro; the pigs were beginning to get a little active around them, circling and coming at them.
No time for games, in that case. Another Sword Art was needed - but as she tried to drop into the stance for it, she found it hard to get into the specific activation stance at this kind of pacing and mindset, and - "Fuck it," - just slashed at her piggie prey to shatter it, feeling the crystal shower in front of her before pulling into what was a really untrained defensive stance.
Fighting with one's fists was easier than with a sword when it came to all of these targets; a glance at Canary led her to believe she was willing for more. Comic just couldn't find that good source of rage and raw emotions when fighting pigs. She needed something bigger, something able to fight back.

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you Something pushed under her skin, driving her forward. [break][break] Competition? Of course, that was one factor. The sensation of fighting, but without the consequences she'd get in real life? That was another one. But she was driven. Slaying pigs was perhaps too easy to some degree - not perhaps, she thinks, but certainly - but it offered something to keep her busy. She doesn't know what the other girl thinks of this - probably boredom, from her face when they were walking - but Canary would be content killing for a while if only to keep herself busy. Plus, even though it wasn't as much as she wanted it, it still gave her a small rush! Each time the shattering of pixels happened, she felt a sense of accomplishment. [break][break] It was great. [break][break] Okay, not as great as a killing spree on a good shooter game, or beating that stupid ass chariot in dark souls two, but good enough she supposed. To tide her over, that is. Until she figures out the PvP system, and finds people that aren't a bunch of PKing assholes. What would the other girl think of that? Perhaps she could talk to her. It would depend on the end of the quest probably, as the shattered pixels of Canary's third pig danced in the air. It was getting easier to fight. The song and dance of the blade, and now she just had to get used to the sword arts too. And that meant for some fun times, particularly for the fourth pig. [break][break] Her blade was glowing with her next intention, as she got into a stance. [break][break] Comic[googlefont="Muli|Pavanam"]

The real feeling in fighting these things was frustration. There wasn't a true level of satisfaction from fighting pink pigs, from fighting these small targets that had trouble even coordinating long enough to fight back; each one seem more preoccupied with dipping and running out of the way than they did attack, and the ones that did try to come in to fight were just... slow, and even when they hit, bashing into her side, it didn't do much. She could have kept that up all day, it was nothing. She dodged the pig beside her and watched as it died from the flash of her blade, the way the rusty sword dipped into its digital flesh and shattered it.
They had gone over the necessary amount for the quest. Now it was just cleaning up; or it would be, but there was only three pigs left, and one was about to die by Canary's hands. Comic followed suit, sword art at the ready to strike down one of the pinkies that was trying to get to her as she waited for the moment, waited, waited - and there it went with a <<Horizontal>>. Death by sword art.

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you A breath escaped her, as the sword art launched, the uppercut smashing the pig. [break][break] One left. And it was hers. With a pair of swipes, it was gone, dissolving into shattering crystals, and the blonde could finally let it go. Her breath came out, and she sheathed her blade, already heading towards the red head. It had been fun, but she knew this wasn't good enough. The blonde let out a small hum, checking the requirements of the quest - they had certainly gone over it that's for sure. She couldn't find it in herself to think more about all of it. They had done it, it was done, and she just strangely felt disastisfied. Talk about a let down really, even as she turned her attention to the other girl. [break][break] ''Well, that was more boring then intended. Wonder if there's any smarter mobs... if not I'll have to turn to PvP. And you? How do you feel after that?'' she asks. [break][break] Sure, the other girl didn't seem to be the most friendly, but Canary wasn't going to just sit there and not try. It wouldn't sit well with her in the end, simply because it would feel like she took the easy way out. [break][break] Comic[googlefont="Muli|Pavanam"]

It took a moment after killing her last pig to bring herself to sheath the sword. Like a hunger pang, she wanted more, another swing, another hit, another satisfying shower of crystals with the overture of breaking glass. She needed that moment of feeling weight and resistance in her wrist, her arm, and the joy of ripping into it and past that point. Just a few pigs wouldn't do. She would need more.
And it seemed that Canary felt the same. Comic watched, carefully, as she spoke, giving her summary of feelings on the events. The redhead regarded the blonde for a moment, shifting weight to one leg, before finally giving out a small sigh. "Supposed to be wolves and plants, if some quest prompts have served me right. Wolves are smart in the wild - might be smart in game." That was worth a shot.
She didn't dissolve the party yet, at any rate. She intended to follow Canary for as long as the other was willing. Having another good sword at her side felt reassuring, and as much as she talked, she at least stuck to the point at hand - the game and the monsters within. She could handle that.

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you It was like pulling out teeth from a rabid dog. [break][break] But Canary didn't mind. [break][break] The blonde let out a grin, first because the other girl felt the same way, and second because the red head didn't just up and leave the party. Good good, that meant they could work together, and that was cool. ''Yup, sounds perfect. If the wolves aren't smart, well, let's just go pick on a higher leveled mob, that should solve the difficultly problem right quick. I'll let you lead on, since I have no idea where said prompts showed up.'' she said, shrugging. And she was honest about it too, because why not? Girl seemed chill even if she was more of the quiet type, and she was pretty reliable. [break][break] And that was a huge plus no matter what flaw she had. [break][break] Although, Canary might be a talker, which kinda makes her sad, but honestly, it would be worse. So she isn't going to complain, and easily falls in step with the red head, turning her thoughts over to the quest. Oh wait. ''Shit, almost forgot! Let's go turn in the quest first!'' she said, laughing slightly. Yup, that was a dumb mistake, but hey, it was fine. They had one life, so they had to live it and have fun with it right? Maybe over time, she could rub off on the red head and help her loosen up some. But honestly, it wouldn't bother her either way, since the beta was going to end sometime, and then there would be a lot more people playing. [break][break] Although... naw, let it go for now Canary.
