[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you Another day. [break][break] Her fingers ran through her blonde strands, even as she sighed. She found another interesting quest - but like all quests, they can't be solo'd. What a stupid thing. She'd need to get a few partners, because she's quite sure people don't have as much free time as she does. So she's stuck here, yet again hoping for a quest partner. ''I wish they had a randomizing system or some shit.'' she says, before shaking her head. They probably wouldn't until the actual game, after all, this was a beta. She'd make sure to send in that suggestion, if only to simplify the life of herself and others. Nobody wants to be alone after all, but a lot of people were just loners. [break][break] Either they were too shy, or too hesitant, or others hesitated to approach them. [break][break] So she's there, waiting. Next to the quest NPC, for someone to come take the quest, and she could approach them then. Surely, they would like someone to do the quest with? Since you can't quest without a party. And look at that, Aiko here was totally free to do the quest with them! Such convenience. It was sure to win them over or something - and make her seem a little less lonely perhaps. But honestly, if she kept rambling in her mind, she would lose the point and repeat herself. So instead, she opens her inventory, and looks at possible skills, pondering which ones she'd like when she gets there. [break][break] That should pass some time before some one arrives and takes this quest, a person whom she could end up doing the quest with. [break][break] kenseiryuu quest[googlefont="Muli|Pavanam"]

Well, this entire thing had been interesting. Hitomi's experience with games like these were quite limited, as she spent most of her time doing actual swordplay. That was why she had found it too interesting to pass up when she'd recieved an email inviting her to the Beta of Sword Art Online. She didn't know if someone had gotten the wrong email address or what, but it didn't matter did it? She was here now. Standing in front of the quest board she looked down at her hands and flexed them. It still utterly shocked her how realistic this all felt. She'd swung her sword around a few times but hadn't started to do anything else, which of course was why she was at the quest board. The easier difficulty quests were clearly marked, both through their content and their rewards. Seriously? A quest to just climb a hill? That sounded way too easy, especially since it wasn't like walking made anyone tired in this game since they didn't have to actually move. Despite her petite frame in game she wasn't really all that concerned about height. Really! She'd gone with the same height as she was in real life, but slimmed down a bit. If anything irl she found herself... well no real time for that thoughts. "Accept...accept...Uhhhm. How was I supposed to do that again?" she said to herself, so focused on the quest board she didn't even notice the presence of another girl at it. CANARY

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you And victim sighted. [break][break] It was easy to take a few steps, even though the girl was probably looking at her quest log, considering Canary was beside the actual NPC quest giver, that was the starting point of said quest. But she stepped up, and cleared her throat. ''Yo! Name's Canary, and I couldn't help but hear ya plight. It's pretty easy - all quests are in parties in this game! Kinda cramps the soloist life but sensible. So just take my party invite, and I can help ya get this quest done right quick.'' she said. drawing her menu open, she quickly swiped her fingers to get the party invite sent, even as she stood there with a confident smile. Okay, if the girl rejected her, that would be fine too, but like honestly? [break][break] Those were low chances my friend, or so she thought. [break][break] Of course, she could never really predict whatever was going to happen, but she was fairly sure that she had it all on lock for once. Hmmm, in her pondering it seemed that she had been approached. "Oh, sorry, I didn't see you there." Listening to the other girl speak - at least it was a female player character - the newbie nodded. So it seemed the quests needed to be done with more than a single player. That explained her self-inflicted confusion. Different from the other mmo's that she'd touched but not played much of either. It wasn't hard either for her to spot the invite on her interface as it came up in front of her. Hitting 'yes' was as easy as raising a finger. That also still felt unusual, interacting with a menu that just drifted in front of her instead of having something separate or built into the interface of what she could see. It'd take some getting used to, but she'd given this a try and was finding it more fun than anticipated. So naturally she was going to try quests, like this one. "And accepted!" She smiled at Canary. "Nice to meet you I'm H-- err, I go by Kenseiryuu." She got so caught up in the realism that she almost used her first name. What a blunder! CANARY

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you Well, okay that worked. [break][break] The other seemed a bit confused - a new person perhaps, to the beta. Could be the whole genre of mmos, could just be someone that doesn't know how to play the game, but whatever it was, it was almost endearing. ''Well ain't ya lucky Kenseiryuu? I'm a handy dandy person that already played the game a little. I'm just scooping up all the quests 'cuz I can.'' she says. Flashing a welcoming grin, as she peeks over at the side bar - yikes, only level 1? She herself was higher then that of course - level 5 to be precise - and already some equipment. And by that, she meant her sweet, sweet leather pants. They real tight with Canary after all. [break][break] ''So, pretty simple quest right? Walk up a mountain. They tell you that, but fooorget to mention there's a few mobs on the way, and the mountain is pretty high up. Even if you're in the game, you're gonna get tired.'' the blonde said, shifting her weight. ''So you're probably gonna get a crash course on fighting I guess. Okay so, me talkin' aside, how 'bout ya tell me how far you've played the game? 'Cuz I ain't gonna let a squirt like you get shanked by this game.'' she added, grinning. To Canary? Business as usual. But she's trying to not be overwhelming to the little silver haired girl, even as she was trying to not just scoop up the cutie and carry her around. [break][break] Canary likes cute things okay, she was a girl in there too. [break][break] kenseiryuu[googlefont="Muli|Pavanam"]

"Well my thanks then. This whole thing's still a little bit new to me" It wasn't hard to see that the other player had more experience. The bars indicating usernames and health clearly showed a hefty level of 5. At least, Hitomi guessed that that might have been high level. She really didn't know with no other point of refrence. It wasn't like there was a bunch of players level 110 running around in starting areas, or anything annoying like that. Maybe leveling was slow in this game?
So she kept those thoughts to herself, though she unconsciously crossed her arms and tapped at her chin with her fingers, while she was thinking. An old habit, and one she didn't even really know she had. Hearing the other girl she nodded. "Yeah, it really does seem too easy, I get its a low-level quest but still..." The question about her experience with the combat in this game was a different question altogether. "I'm... uhhh not familiar with how the game works. I could manage if this was real life, but as a game I'm sure it doesn't work exactly like that."
She averted her eyes and scratched the back of her head. "But really thanks. It's not like this is one of those cliched stories where you die in the game you die in real life, but I suppose respawning is probably a real pain in the neck. Thank you for watching out for me." Hitomi bowed, her avatar making a nice courteous bow with her hands at her side. CANARY

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you Oh gosh, the temptation to hug this cutie pie. [break][break] Must resist. [break][break] ''So pretty new uh? Have you played any mmo before? Because if you have, kinda chuck most of the movement knowledge and some combat knowlege out of your head. It's different then being on a keyboard and mouse or a gamepad at the least.'' she said. Look, she was not burdened by helping others, in fact it made her happier to do so. She had a confident, an ease of being that let her just take everything in stride mostly, and well helping people? It showed that she was skilled. She knew what she was doing, to a degree, and it let her feel a teeny bit good about herself. Of course, she didn't really have insecurities, but anyone would feel down if nearly everyone they knew and loved was putting them down, right? [break][break] ''And if you haven't, it's cool. I can teach ya the basics, no problem. So long as you don't mind me talking that is.'' she added on. She really wanted to resist hugging the girl, but part of her was like 'just scoop her up, bet it feels like a kitten' and the blonde is trying really hard to not even listen to that part of her. So checking her inventory, she made sure to accept the quest, and stretched her body. ''How about we walk and talk though, I assume you got most of the movement down since you got all the way out here?'' she asks. Better to be safe then sorry honestly. [break][break] Canary was just waiting to see what this girl was like, because the woman had a feeling this could end up either going very well, or ending up very badly. "I've played an mmo before, just not one that was VR like this. I was a lot younger so I got confused early and gave it up, but this is a bit different, isn't it?" Upfront and honest about it. That was the way Hitomi was raised after all, but she was maybe too honest? Could she have feigned being more than a complete newbie to the game? Well, even if she thought that, it'd still sit wrong with her. "I can move just fine, there's nothing really that much different, though its kinda weird to think about the fact my body isn't moving back at my house." It was a little disorienting, but she had managed so far. In fact not having "normal" limits in here was quite thrilling, plus the avatar she'd made not matching her own real-world appearance was a bit of a relief. Still, walking and was certainly an efficient way to handling learning on the fly. It's not like the mountain was getting any closer by them standing around and talking. "So how does the combat work exactly?" Hitomi knew kenjutsu and was quite familiar with it in the outside world, but this was a video game, things were probably different. CANARY

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you The blonde nods, letting out a soft hum. [break][break] Okay total noob. This means that some things she'll have to teach on the go. Visual examples are usually the best, because honestly, doing it and seeing it helps making it memorable. She lets out another small hum, before gesturing to the girl to follow her. ''Okay so some basics are in order. Basically, the game is composed of several things - I'm sure you've noticed. You've got quests, crafting and fighting. There's a PvP system, but I ain't tried that one yet.'' she starts, as they both start on the long winding road that leads to their destination. The blonde walks casually, but not too quickly, letting the girl keep an easy pace beside her. [break][break] So far so good. [break][break] ''But you asked about combat first, so let's start with that. Combat is a bit unique in this game. Usually, you have to target, and then press buttons. Not here. So let me go through some base terms, just in case. Targetting is what you're looking at. SAO has a weird system, so it's not necessarily normal per say - you look at what you want to see and it focuses your vision. Now, when you look at a mob - that's a term for monster, which is also short for basically enemies - your little thing will float over them, showing you that's their target. You'll get their name usually too.'' she says. [break][break] A little bit at a time. [break][break] ''With me so far?''[break][break] kenseiryuu[googlefont="Muli|Pavanam"]

Walking along beside Canary, their height difference was pronounced, and she looked up at the other girl, keeping pace easily despite her shorter legs. The beauty of mmo's... everbody walked the same speed. Or at least they did until they started to get abilities that affected such things. That usually wasn't the sort of thing that got done in the first 5 levels of a given day. Focusing... that wouldn't be a problem. Hitomi had plenty of practice with focusing on an opponent, so no problems there. "Alright, focus on the opponent. That's easy enough, and you get their name and all? I see." She nodded and kept close to the other girl. The more she could learn now about how to work the game, the less she would struggle later. Simple easy reasoning. And if it was closer to realism, that would be even greater yet. That being said, maybe she was walking too close? Bashfully she took a couple of steps to the side. Still close enough to easily hear, but not that close you know? She wasn't like that. CANARY

[nospaces] [break] sweet dreams are made of you ''Yup. See, from there is where it gets harder. You have these things called Sword Arts - and you have to get into a specific stance to activate them and have them go off. Considering the combat is not only real time, but majorly reaction based, it means you're vulnerable. If you've an idea of how to fight in the real world, it'll give you a good idea. Like for example, the Sword Arts are like the poses in a kendo tournament - necessary for the strike. Probably figured it'd be easier to start with swords because of kendo yannow.'' the blonde picked back up. The white haired girl seemed to be keeping up rather well with her thus far, and that was good. [break][break] ''So you basically have to dodge and attack - but Sword Arts won't let you do both. So figuring out the mob's patterns is paramount, as it'll give you an idea of what works when, and how to deal with it. We're probably going to have to lemming the floor boss until we figure out his patterns for example. Okay, so that's a little bit on combat done - wanna tell me what your two weapon proficiency are?'' she continued, and then asked. She was totally well meaning, but she could see that the other girl seemed uncertain of something. But the blonde kept her stance relaxed and open, friendly. This was a really cute girl and goddammit if she called Aiko-senpai, she wouldn't be able to help herself. [break][break] She had always wanted a cute girl kouhai. Sword Arts... Kenseiryuu was a veritable dry sponge of knowledge in this game, but she was going to pick it up. The more she could figure out before hand, the less she would muck it up down the line. This was far more mental than swinging bokken around, but it didn't look like it was all that bad. Certainly getting into stances would be easy, though she might struggle a bit with her inbuilt muscle memory. "Yeah, I get the kendo comparisons. No problems there." There was perhaps the very tiniest faintest hint of disdain she had in her voice, but everybody went straight to kendo. Sure it was a fun sport, but "that's its exact problem" as her father always said. It was a sport done with bamboo "swords" that behaved nothing like the real thing. Certainly she got a little bit nettled like her old man, but her family ran a kenjutsu dojo - not kendo. There were a fair number of people who made that mistake. However, it seemed there was a major difference. There didn't seem to be any way to blend attack and defense into the same fluid motions as there was with kenjutsu. Well, if she re-approached it with the thought of being a complete beginner for now she just had to focus on making the right motions. Learning when to make the correct motions would come with time. "My two proficiencies?" It didn't take her long to remember. She'd picked that pretty quickly, since one she didn't have control over, and the other she picked because of her familiarity with it in real life. "One-handed swords, and curved blades I believe its called?" CANARY
