@open The first sign that this game was a little bit more twisted than usual was probably when the game had decided to hunt down the strongest player. While Albedo had been more than willing to play along, that was because it was exactly that-- a game. And frankly, it was a game that Albedo was confident ARETO was going to win. Areto had quickly become one of the strongest frontliners on the server, constantly grinding out levels like he was a McDonalds toy factory. But, a thing that Albedo had noted about most of the front line players-- they were busy testing the quests. Albedo, on the other hand, found himself experiencing the world. He wanted to find every single little nook and cranny, every little secret so that he could later utilize it at the game's launch. It was becoming an obsession for him-- he'd sleep in a different part of the game every night, mostly to test to see what would be safe and what wouldn't be. He had set out from Tolbana that day and had gone north towards the world pillar in the center of the floor. It was a feature of the game that had intrigued him. Why was there just a random swirling pillar in the middle of the floor? What was the purpose of it? He had perhaps a faint idea. It had come to him in his sleep. The floor they were on didn't have any monsters that reached higher than level six... so clearly, there had to be others, right? Higher floors, higher monsters? That was his theory. Now he was going to see if it was a fruitful one. After slaying a bunch of Large Nepents (and being surprise attacked by some of them), he found himself finally at the pillar, feeling along the edges as he walked along it. Maybe there was some kind of secret passage, or maybe he just had to stand in a special place... It was then that he heard it. The scuffle of monsters, not too far to the right of where he was standing. He withdrew his new sword and hunched down as he ran to where he had heard them-- then paused in alarm at what he saw. What in the hell? There were two of them, and both of them were monsters he had never seen before on the floor. He frowned and eyed them up. He could probably take them... he was level five after all. How hard could it be? Famous last words. SWORD ART SLASH: 10 DMG. STR: 25. DEX: 9 -- DISADVANTAGE! ONE TRICK PONY: 5 DMG. He charged and slashed at one of the troopers, watching its health go down to just above half, and then the other trooper turned on him. He paled. "Oh no."The one that he hit howled with fury and struck back, clobbering Albedo directly in the chest. He got flung back, his health got knocked down to 30%, and he choked on his own breath from the pain. Not nearly as bad as it could've been had he experienced that pain in the real world, but it was definitely bad. Very bad. That was the second indication that this game was set out to kill them all. Mobs that were practically elite who weren't marked as such and looked like they were only level 3.

Shadowing another front-liner paid off. Comic had kept as close she could to him; she had dug her sword deep into a Nepent when she caught the commotion of watching fight some as well. He seemed good with a sword and had a strong attack, so figuring out where he was going to have either gotten that strong or that kind of gear would be nice. People tended to spam the good quests, after all...
However, he went a bit further in his journey, pressing deeper into the forested area than any of the quests she had run had required. Even the flower-fetch quests didn't need you to go in this deep; you could hike ten minutes in and just find enough plant creatures to tend your gardens for days. Comic kept low and tried to keep her profile to a minimum, understanding that sneaking behind a player could look bad...
She paused, hearing combat; a moment later she pressed forward, only to see the strong sword-arm from before, getting knocked back by two creatures - and that looked like it hurt. Even getting stabbed by Nepents and whipped about didn't look that bad. Her hand found its way to her sword as the kobolds moved forward, ears perking around as they advanced.
They didn't look like they coul be solo'd. Fuck it. She burst from the underbrush towards the pillar, sword back. Focus on the timing, focus, focus - a <<Horizontal>>.

It really didn't do anything except draw attention as she cut between the man knocked back and the kobolds. Hitting them felt like hitting a rough stone; her sword caught some "flesh", but that armor was tough, and it retaliated with a hard twack to her torso armor. She found herself almost bowled to the side, taking a knee; sword up to catch the next swing overhead and prevent it from smashing in her skull. This was too much.

An interesting conversation had met his ears when he was wandering the Town of Beginnings in search of something to do. After having completed two quests and partaking in the War Game Event, he had gone back to simply grinding for EXP in the Wildlands. But that was already starting to become a tad dull, especially considering he was solo grinding as it were. However, when he went to grab some food, a couple of fellow beta testing strangers had spoken of the First Floor dungeon - Ilfang's Labyrinth, talking about those who were looking for a decent challenge could explore it to grind for decent EXP and a bit of Col for extra spending. However, no one had managed to clear it yet, let alone, finding the Boss Room. This could provide some decent leveling, materials for crafting, as well as information on what to expect the next time anyone entered. Prospect had presented itself before Celsius, and he wasn't about to let it go to waste.
The young man ventured out of town and made his way over towards the dungeon entrance, blue eyes surveying his surroundings as he drew his sword from its sheath. After the event, he had made sure to purchase some new gear, so he was somewhat confident that he would be able to hold his own, at least for a little while. Thinking on it however, he should probably consider pouring more points into his CON stat for better chance of survival in fights. He wouldn't be able to get much done if he wound up dying left and right, now would he?
As he wandered deeper into the dungeon, the sounds of conflict met his ears, eyes fully alert as he tightened the grip on the handle of his blade. He pressed onward to see two players already present, one of them having been flung back as they were struck hard by two mobs he hadn't seen before. Judging by their design, and prior experience with previous MMOs, he felt it best to assume that they were Kobolds. They were typically weak on lower level maps, but judging by their gear, he felt it safe to assume they were wearing something akin to plate armor. These creatures would be a little tougher than from a general first glance. Their attention seemed to be drawn to the woman who had just attacked them. One was just a smidgen above 50% health, while the other was still fairly healthy. The woman was nearly met with a strike that very well may have smashed her skull in, if not for defending herself at the last moment.
BGM: Run, Run, Runaway
He required no further thought. Celsius began running as fast as his legs would allow him to move, his One Trick Pony Sword raised at chest-height and giving off a luminous blue glow, preparing his Sword Skill as he moved. Blue eyes focused upon the two Kobolds, his voice carrying as he shouted out to the two players ahead of him.
"Dokke! Move, move!!"
He thrust his sword ahead of himself, his body soon being carried by a burst of momentum as he blew past ALBEDO and Comic with rather surprising speed upon activating <<SHOOTING STAR>>.

His blade met its mark as he blew past them, the creatures screeching out in pain as red glowing gashes were now visible upon their bodies, steel having pierced through the plating of their armor. The blonde came skidding to a halt a few feet behind the Kobolds, pivoting on a heel to turn himself 'round and face them. An arm poised behind his back as he stood upright, the armed hand extended outward with blade tip fixated upon the mobs as blue eyes honed in on their targets as they turned and ran at Celsius, maces raised to strike. A simple side-step was enough to avoid the first hefty strike, a foot following after to kick one away from his current position. However, he barely had enough time to turn back and brace an arm against his sword, successfully blocking the incoming strike at his ribs, but not without a bit of damage following through. Eyes widened as he watched his HP Bar drop 60%, realizing that if he wasn't more careful, he would be in serious trouble, blocking or no.

Comic , CELSIUS "Whoa!" He exclaimed out when the other player mysteriously appeared. A ginger girl in heavy plate, at least for this level, took the brunt of the next kobold's hit, and Albedo grinned. That was lucky, damn lucky. He could've easily been taken out, he had really underestimated what these kobolds could do to him. Honestly, he had just assumed that they would be about as hard to defeat as those wolves that kept wandering around the level-- not nearly as hard hitting as this. Maybe he needed to put more into his CON... nah. He saluted. "Thanks for the save!" Was he going to ask why this girl was all the way out here? Nah. If he had been about to be PKed, she would've charged in and taken the final blow from these kobolds for the orange status, and she didn't look like an orange just yet. He heard another guy shouting behind him and rolled out of the way of his charge, getting to a position where he was kneeling on the ground. His sword was in hand as he stared at the blonde who attacked the kobold that he had been hit by. Now that the kobold was being hit, he could easily see its health amount and eyed it up critically. One less kobold meant one less mob hitting this ginger girl tank... it was a risk to go charging back in with so little health, but it was a calculated risk. "Switch!" he yelled as he darted back in at a charging run. His sword glowed a bright neon blue, before he swung it upwards. SWORD ART UPPERCUT: 10 DMG. STR: 25. DEX: 9 -- DISADVANTAGE! She could feel it pressing against the flat of her blade, and her armored gloves were giving away in holding out. Even having her spare hand up and holding the sword on the other end did little to help; she could still feel the struggle of keeping the kobold off of her, keeping its aggro as it tried to bear its weight down. The other kobold seemed to have another idea - simple strike while she was busy. It seemed like she was going to be finished off here, jumping in to help some idiot-
-and then idiot number two joined the scene. Comic barely had time to duck down, shoving off on the sword to disengage only a second before the <<Shooting Star>> hit home. She could have been in that attack. She took the shift in aggro to take a breather, pulling up to her full height and readying to act. He wasn't going to last long, taking those kind of hits.
Before her feet could carry her, the half-dead player behind her moved in and murdered one of the kobolds, taking them out in a flash of blue and a rather nice display of the sword art system. She didn't know what to expect - it was her first time hearing the term - but after he yelled out for a switch, instinct took over. The last kobold was going in for a hit on whitey, and she put herself between them and activated her sword art again. "Fuck-"

"-you!" sounded out as she brought her sword art around. The kobold ceased the attack and took an immediate backstep; her blade's tip didn't even come close to hitting. That wasn't enough for her; she kicked forward one last time with the momentum, feeling her shoulder connect with the creature's torso and knock it back. It stumbled for a second before catching her in the side with an unblocked attack; feeling herself knocked to the side a bit, she was effectively disengaged and still the target of its aggression.

BGM: RUN, RUN, RUNAWAY
The white-haired male took the opportunity to overpower the first kobold, leaving it to shatter to fragments of data and disappear. One down, one more to go. The second kobold charged in to avenge its fallen comrade, only to be thrown off by the woman who defended with one of her Sword Skills, then shouldering it away. However, she still wound up taking a heavy hit, her HP Bar having dropped a bit more. She was certainly much more tanky than Celsius or the other young man. But now certainly was not the time to marvel at another's STAT choices. His sword gave off a luminous glow once more, a green light enveloping its steel as he ran in and called out to the woman as he came up from behind.
"Switch!" he called as he ran past her, giving her another moment to catch a breather before the next rotation of the current players present. His left hand rushed forward to bash the kobold over the side of the hide, effectively staggering it as his body continued to turn with the momentum.

As his body followed through with the motion of his initial punch, his right arm raised the One Trick Pony overhead as he turned towards the kobold once more. A swift movement of his arm brought the glowing steel down across the creature's body as Celsius activated <<SLANT>>, a pained screech sounding out as it staggered backward. The kobold growled before swinging its mace once more, the blonde in turn meeting his sword with the blunt end of the weapon and bringing him into a deadlock with the grunt!
"Grr..! Go for the kill!" he shouted out to the white-haired male, kicking the creature away before disengaging with an effective leap backward, eyeing his HP bar which had dropped another 10%.

Comic , CELSIUS "Yessir!" The young man yelled out chipperly. He swiped down the blade's length and started to charge at maximum, almost inhumane speed. He literally seemed to leave a trail of dust behind him as he charged forward, swinging the blade upwards, only to bring it down heavily on the kobold's neck. SWORD ART SONIC CHARGE: 15 DMG. STR: 25. He stumbled forward through the kobold as the corpse disintigrated into glowing polygons, his blade held awkwardly in both of his hands. He tripped forward and fell down onto one knee clumsily, paused for a second, then turned around and grinned a cheeky grin. He raised his thumb in the air. "Nice job, you two! I would've been a goner if you hadn't come along when you did." He got up to his feet and started fishing around in his menu, before a HP Potion dropped into his hand. He popped the cork and took a long chug of the contents. It slightly tasted like cherry cough medicine to him, but hey, he'd take what he could get. He tossed the empty bottle behind him as his HP bar went up and the bottle shattered into polygons. "Well, if those big guys are any indication, I'm gonna safely bet that this is the place where the boss is." He put his sword away and placed a hand on his hip. "And let's face it, I'd definitely be down for a little bit of spelunking through a dungeon, but..." He pointed at Celsius. "You, buddy, are lookin' a bit worse for wear, and you," he pointed at Comic, "took quite a few hits. Thank you again, by the way. I do appreciate it." He inclined his head in acknowledgement. "If you've got potions on you, I say let's go, but I'd be down for teleporting back to town and getting help too." He paused for a moment. "... oh yeah. Username's Albedo, by the way. I'm probably gonna try to call a few buddies in and get that dungeon mapped, if you two wanna add me to your friends list." ALBEDO | |

[attr="class","strawberry"] [attr="class","coconut"]EXPLORATION The news of Illfang's Labryinth being opened spread like wildfire amongst the other players. Areto had been lounging in the Town of Beginnings enjoying the sun rays on his face when it reached his ears. Apparently, a few players had already ventured to the labryinth and decided to take it on or at least map it out. Others weren't keen on joining in for various reasons. A suicide mission, laziness, and it was too early on in the game being a few reasons that he cited. Areto sighed and stood up. Well, it was better than nothing. He ventured to the source of where the rumors were coming from but found that he was far too late to do anything. Three players, each being someone that he knew in the past stood before him and a small smile formed on his lips. " Well, seems like I was late to the party," he said. " It's good to see all of you again." From the information that he gathered, there were supposed to be sentries guarding the entrance to the labyrinth. They must have dispatched them. How interesting.
