It was remarkable how mesmerizing it was to simply wander this digital world he found himself in. Initially it was all just too unsettling. Being able to feel the clothes on his back, hear people speak as if they were right next to him and smell the unfamiliar scents of this world was almost enough to make him log out immediately. Fortunately he managed to resist this instinct, allowing him to fully appreciate what an amazing thing this truly was. He had yet to engage with any of the players or mechanics, merely taking this time to see the sights this place had to offer. There was no way he was going to attempt to make sense how things worked without his brother there to help him along. Besides, he could already tell that going around slaying monsters wasn't going to be his cup of tea. The exploration was what was most exciting.
His first lesson about the game was about the passage of time. Whether the time passed differently here or he had actually played the day away was unclear. All he knew was that it was the sun was beginning to set, something Farms only realized as the sky's colors began to change. Luckily for him his random wandering had lead him to a town not too long ago, one he learned was called Horunka. At least he could be safe there for the time being. It wasn't long after noticing the passage of time that another strange thing caught his attention. A woman had appeared on the street, one that the nearby players seemed to rush to meet. The cursor's color changed when he looked at her, signifying she was...special? Honestly he hadn't paid much attention to any instruction he had received while creating his character. All he did was try to make a character that looked as much like himself as possible and get to walking. For all he knew she was some lady who worked for the game and was passing out goodies.
With that possibility in mind and his curiosity piqued, he decided to approach her after the crowd thinned out a bit. He stood quietly as she spoke to him, expressing concerns about the street lamps and potential for bandits to appear. When she was done he gave her a firm nod, a concerned look on his face. "That sounds...serious. I'll help the best I can." He paused for a moment, a hint of confusion blending with his features as he turned to look down the street. Mouth opened to speak once more as he turned back to her, only to find that she had already busied herself with another player. A hand moved to ruffle his own hair as he stepped away from the NPC, clearly unsure of how exactly he was supposed to go about this 'quest' he just accepted. If only there was a tall, charming prince that could guide him on this journey.

Today had been amazing. She had met so many new players and done a few quests. She even managed to get to another town! Sword Art Online was going to be so much fun! Prince could already feel it! This was going to be the next chapter in her life! Her uncomfortable reality would be more bearable with a game like Sword Art Online waiting for her at home every day. Prince didn't really want to log off, but she had done a lot today. It was starting to get late into the afternoon. Her mom would probably be calling her down for dinner soon.
Prince raised her hand to bring up the menu. As the yellow and white boxes floated, the girl gestured through the menu. However, she froze with a perplexed look on her face. Where was the log out button? How odd... It had been there during beta... Did they move it? Prince quietly walked as she continued to flick through the menu. Weird. Maybe it was a glitch? She stopped next to an NPC as she flicked to the GM help page. She quietly stood there, typing out a report as another player approached the NPC and took the quest she gave out.
Once the report was finished, she looked over to the NPC. Her eyes widened. ”WOAH!” Prince found herself face to face with a pair of massive tits. Jeesh. The NPC seemed to take that as an invitation to go into her spiel about the lanterns needing to be turned on. ”Your tits are huge...!” she mumbled as the NPC spoke, not really registering what she said. When the quest popped up with it's objectives, Prince blinked. Well, she couldn't exactly log off yet. Her mom wasn't exactly the type to come to her room if she didn't show up for dinner... so Prince couldn't rely on her taking the headset off. Worse come to worse, she'd be stuck in bed until the next morning when the maid went to clean her room during the time she should have been in school. An entire night of Sword Art Online didn't sound that bad! It wasn't her fault the game bugged out, right?
Prince turned to look at the player who had recently just taken the quest. He looked confused. Prince grinned before approaching and giving an elegant and princely bowed. ”Why hello there! Would you like to quest together?” she asked, a hum evident in her boyish voice. | I CAN MAKE YOUR HANDS CLAP |

Farms jumped slightly as someone addressed him, quickly turning to face the tall man. The surprisingly graceful bow made him just a bit uncomfortable, something which showed rather plainly on his face. He seemed to be another player, probably just a guy who was really getting into his character. This was the first time someone had actually attempted to interact with him like this. Of course there were the random windows that popped up about 'parties' and 'guilds'. But he wasn't really in the mood for partying and...well he wasn't sure what a guild was but he probably didn't want to go there either.
Head tilted back a bit to look the man in the eye as he let out a contemplative hum. "Together? Is that not against the rules?" That thing he accepted didn't say anything about another person helping. Then again it didn't say he had to do it alone either. In the end this was a multiplayer game, so it would make more sense if you could team up. But even then, he wasn't sure he wanted to bog the guy down. He seemed like he knew what he was doing at least.
Letting out a sigh he curled his hands into fists and rested them on on his hips, turning his head to look back down the street. "I'll be honest, I don't really know what I'm supposed to be doing with...all this. Lighting lamps and all that? I thought I'd help but, well. Looking at all these people it doesn't seem like I'm really needed, does it?" He didn't really understand the concept of quests, but he did understand work. And with this many people at work he wasn't sure why they would bother hiring him as well. Was the town really so big that they needed this many people to go around lighting lamps? This world was going to take a lot of getting used to.

Yes, one could say Prince was very into her character. She grinned widely as the other man spoke. ”Eh? Why would it be! This is a multiplayer game!” she laughed. Prince would practically spin as she raised her arms, as if showing off the world around her. ”This entire world was made with the intention of players working together to conquer it! To no work together would be against the very design of the game- a sin if you will!”
”Don't sigh comrade!” Prince gave him a reassuring thumbs up, or what she thought would be one. To be honest, she probably just looked like an idiot. ”Oh! I see! I was worried about the same thing when I first started- but you see, the lanterns are really shitty and need to be constantly relit.”
Prince nodded sagely as she spoke. Yes, the lanterns were just shitty- totally not just resetting for the next people doing the quest. ”So they need all the people they can get to relight them as they go out! It's really dangerous next to the forest at night, so the lanterns need to stay lit!” | I CAN MAKE YOUR HANDS CLAP |

The corners of his lips tugged into an amused smile as he watched the man who appeared to go by 'Prince' make his dramatic display. He had to admit his enthusiasm was infectious, as he already felt more eager to get the ball rolling with this quest. When he first logged in he never even considered the possibility of interacting with anyone here aside from his brother, so this whole situation came to be a pleasant surprise. "A sin, huh? Never thought of it that way." Head bobbed in agreement, unable to tear his eyes away from the living spectacle before him.
The thumbs up was almost too much for him. Farms couldn't tell if he was trying to dorkily cheer him up or if this was a serious attempt to reassure him. Shoulders shook as he let out a soft laugh, turning his attention to the lamps as they were mentioned. "Really? They can't be that bad." Almost as if on queue the lamp he was staring at flickered into nothing, only for another player to approach it to repeat the process. "Huh. Seems like they would be better off just replacing them."
With a shrug of the shoulders he turned his attention back to him with raised brows. Farms couldn't think of anything in his life that made him as excited as this game made Prince. He almost envied him. "Alright friend." A hand moved up to grasp his new friend's shoulder, second hand raising to return the previous thumbs up. "Lets light some lamps." He stared up at the man for a moment, arms falling to his sides before finishing his thought. "How do I light the lamps?"

”Yes! It's a sin not to play a game like this with others! Just think of all the time and effort the developers put into this game! Most of is probably made even better by playing with teammates! The weapons and skills all balance each other out as well! They were made to work together!” she hummed happily with a firm nod. As Prince spoke more and more it was clear that they were very serious about how dorky they were.
As he spoke of the lanterns not being that bad, Prince raise a finger up, pointing at the lantern dramatically as it died. ”The problem isn't in the lanterns themselves!” she snapped with a grin. ”You see, they could replace the lanterns all day long and they'd still go out! Do you want to know why?” she asked. Before he could even answer, she continued. ”Because the gods of this world so will it! Plus some other stuff! You know?”
Prince crossed her arms with a bright and silly grin. When she was called a friend, her eyes lit up like fireworks. ”Yes! Let's light the lamps!” she cheered before hopping over to a lamp. When she was in front of one, the blond looked over her shoulder. ”Oh! Come here!” she hummed, beckoning for him.
”You probably could go find a new candle to put up there and do it manually, but it's easier to just use the interface!” she began before reaching out to poke the lantern's pole. A circle would appear as she pressed down on it. ”When you touch things, options tend to come up! See?” she hummed, gesturing to the options to light the lanterns. Prince pressed on the option to light it. As the light lit up, the option to light it vanished and was replaced with an option to snuff the light.

There was no doubting it. This guy was 100% hooked already. One may even say that he was bordering on obsessive at this rate. Still it was nice to hear a more in depth perspective on the game and it's design. As much as this felt like a living breathing world he couldn't forget that it was designed to be a game.Things didn't work like they did in reality; in fact it was specifically designed not to. This wouldn't be much of a fantasy world if it perfectly mimicked the real one. And of course at the end came the most important lesson of all, teamwork. They were going to have to work together if they were going to accomplish anything, and it didn't just have to be his brother. He could work with anyone. "You make a good point." It all sounded so simple and obvious now. So obvious that he was shocked he never thought of all this before.
Of course it didn't take long for the conversation to go from thought provoking to downright silly. He had to contain a laugh at the man's reasoning behind the lamps. "The gods, huh?" Maybe he wasn't too far off. The developers of the game were almost like gods molding a world to suit their will. But still, it just sounded so odd when said out loud. Especially with such sincerity. He could poke all kinds of holes in his reasoning at this point. If the gods didn't want the lamps lit, wouldn't it be blasphemous to light them? If the gods wanted the lamps lit at all why would they go through the trouble of putting them out again? But in the end it didn't really matter. He wasn't about to spoil Prince's good time by poking fun at his logic. "Well if the gods will it, who am I to disobey?" Not to mention it was much more fun just to play along.
Smile stayed firmly planted on his face as he watched the man bounce his way over to one of the lamps. It was just too amusing to watch a grown man act like a child at play. This was the kind of joy that could only be found in a fantasy world. He followed after him when called, granted in a more casual manner than his energetic hops. This time he was sure to pay attention to it all worked. It was all surprisingly simple, really. Just poke it and pick something off the menu. Though it sounded like manual interaction would work as well, this seemed to be the most efficient means of doing so. "That makes sense, I guess. Never thought of just... poking things." Farms bent at the waist, leaning in close to the lamp before poking it with an extended finger. Eyes then glanced over to the menu that appeared, moving his finger over to the snuff option. With a press the lamp was extinguished. And with another, re-ignited. "Huh. That was easy. I guess we just have to run around and do that 14 more times then? Shouldn't take too long." He looked down at the row of lanterns, watching them come to life and then quickly die down as players went about their question. Gaze then turned back to Prince, hand extending out toward the street. "Shall we, then?"

Oh Prince was definitely obsessed. One could easily see by the spark in her eyes as she grinned widely while the other thought over her words. ”I did! Didn't I?” she hummed happily when the gray haired teen agreed that she made a good point. Prince brought up an overly eager thumbs up as he spoke, clearly having too much fun with all of this.
”Yes! The gods! The gods move everything in this world, they created it! The developers will it, so it happened! Of course, it also happened because of us paying and showing interest. So I guess that makes us demigods, huh?” Prince hummed as she spoke, her voice was rather musical but distinctively male.
”Well of course it's simple, it's a game after all!” She giggled as she spoke before watching him move to press the lamp. Once he pressed on it and the lantern died before burning brightly once more, she clapped for him, practically cheering. ”Yep! Come one!”
With that Prince hopped to another lantern down the road to click on the interface before skipping to the next. | I CAN MAKE YOUR HANDS CLAP |

It was at least good to hear Prince make a couple references to the fact that it was just a game. With that talk of gods before there was a bit of concern the man's lines between digital and reality were blurring. But so long as he remembered that these gods were nothing but people sitting at a desk then everything should work out just fine.
Between the two of them it wouldn't be too long before the quest was completed. Farms followed along behind Prince as he skipped off to the next lantern. "Don't worry, I won't fall behind on you." When Prince stopped at one lantern he would simply move to the next one, walking briskly to keep up with the other's energetic pace.
It was surprising how easy this quest was, really. One of the main attractions of video games was supposed to be the challenge, right? After lighting his lamp he looked over to Prince. "I'm guessing things won't always be this easy, will they? I'm not interested in fighting or anything, but surely there's some kind of challenge to be had right?"

Prince knew better than most just how powerful mere men behind desks could be. Her father was one of them. He was a figure who could move and shake thousands of lives on a whim if he so wanted to- a god to many. That was what business was. Prince truly believed those who were in charge of the game had influence- they were gods to some whether the players knew it or not... and one in particular was quite literally one to the players. Of course, they wouldn't find that out until later that evening.
”Good! Falling behind is bad! Very bad!” she hummed as she moved from one lantern to the other- finishing in no time flat. As Farmsalot began to speak, Prince laughed lightly. She reached up to begin turning the quest in as she spoke. ”Eh? Of course not! This is just the start of the game! It gets a lot harder later on! You get to make stuff too! It's really fun---"
Before Prince could finish speaking, she seemed to phase out in blue pixels- vanishing. | I CAN MAKE YOUR HANDS CLAP |

Between the two of them, they managed to relight the constantly extinguishing lamps in very reasonable time. Of course by the time they were done almost all of them had burnt out yet again. It was a sad that they couldn't see the fruits of their labor, but at least they had done all they could.
It went by even faster thanks to Prince's constant energy. Farms practically had to stop himself from getting caught up in his little world and skipping from lamp to lamp. He nodded along as they returned to the NPC and turned their quest in, relieved that there was more of a challenge awaiting them.
Eyes widened in surprise as Prince started to become engulfed in pixels. But before he could even manage to ask what was happening they were both gone. Transported to the town square where they would soon receive the news that would shape their fates.
