His teeth clenched as the monster looked at him for a moment, preparing to defend against it's attack. It was quite a surprise when it instead turned to Comic, who fortunately dodged the attack this time around. Did it not behave like a regular pig would? He thought it would certainly go after whoever was the most recent attacker. Then again her attack did make the bar move a good bit more than his, so maybe it was going after what it thought to be the biggest threat? He had to give the AI credit, it was smarter than he anticipated.
Farms took a deep breath, trying to match Comic's level of focus in combat. Yet no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't get his heart into it. In his head he couldn't shake the thought that this was just a creature trying to defend it's home. He knew full well it wasn't real, but wasn't the point of these games to feel good? To do things that you want to do in reality but can't? No, this part of the game definitely wasn't for him. But he couldn't just leave her hanging.
With just a tenth of it's life left, Farms moved in for the final swing. The blade was lifted over his head and swung down with all his might, exhaling as he cut through the air. (1 damage) The blow landed easily, with the beast still distracted with Comic. And yet it still stood, practically unfazed by the attack. "What?" He couldn't believe what he saw when he looked up at the HP bar. It even moved! Confusion showed rather plainly on his face as he looked between the blade and his target, uncertain of what went wrong. "I don't get it. My last swing did so much more."

Shit, a basic attack. That wasn't a problem, but it for sure made this harder as the pig was damaged and not downed. Cursing under her breath, she resumed the stance and lashed out, not waiting for another attack from the pig.
SWORD ART <<HORIZONTAL>>: 10 DMG. STR: 2. DEX: 0. -- DISADVANTAGE! ONE TRICK PONY: 5 DMG. TOTAL DMG: 17 DMG.
ANGRY PIG: 4 HP. DEX: 0 -- NEUTRAL! ANGRY PIG: 0 HP.
It shattered into a crystal storm, and experience was circulated between the two. With a sigh, Comic pulled herself out of a combative stance and let the sword hang loose, giving a momentary look of vulnerability. "Sword Arts. Basic attacks. The two things are different." She turned to Farms and stared at him. Not his fault he didn't know, but... well, he needed to learn.
"Sword Arts need stances. You can feel them activate and take over. Preset movements." To demonstrate, she once again assumed the position for Horizontal and slashed out into the empty air. "Takes practice." She then stared at him, but without the previous anger or... well, look of indigestion. She certainly wasn't on edge towards him anymore.
It made her feel a bit weak. Comic turned away to face the mountain, to continue the journey and not deal with this right now.

Once again he watched her swing with considerably more force than his piddly little attempt, still not quite understanding the difference between them. The first time he swung he did so much more damage. Did he always have to attack in the same way, or did he just not understand how things worked? Either way the beast was slain, bursting into crystals upon defeat. It was quite the relief that it didn't turn into a bloody mess. A realistic death would have made this even less enjoyable.
Posture straightened when Comic addressed him, practically standing at attention as she spoke. She seemed less irritable than before, which proved to be big relief to Farms. He was worried she would be upset after his poor performance. "I see..." Her demonstration helped a lot, serving as one last reminder of what proper 'Sword Art' form looked like. "Thanks, I'll be sure to practice, just in case." He didn't want to be a burden should he find himself stuck in combat again. It seemed like mastering these Sword Arts was crucial to victory.
He returned her stare with a smile, making his way along the slope to stand next to her again. Just because they finished a fight didn't mean he was about to go breaking formation. Of course he hoped that it would be an unnecessary precaution.

It took almost a solid hour of trekking before they hit the mountain path; markers were lined up on the sides of a winding road that seemed to zigzag back and forth to the short summit. A clear path, as far as she could tell, but it would be a long walk with a view. She took a moment to stop and lean against the left most marker, closing her eyes and leaning her head down.
Farms was an obedient party member, that was for sure. If he could get in a little practice, she figured he could find himself a regular group of people in no time. He was simple, from what she knew, but that would let him fit in and at least go under the radar when it came to the crazier folk. She would need to keep him at arms length, at least, to keep him from ruining a good thing.
"Five minute break?" It was worth asking for one. They had been going nonstop since the start, and she wasn't sure what kind of stamina he had.

The hour of travel seemed to pass in a flash. The higher they got the more beautiful the view became, both on the mountain itself and looking out at the world surrounding it. If he knew this place was here he would have taken the walk up on his own, quest or no. Ever since they beat that pig and started walking again he just couldn't shake the smile of contentment off of his face. He was indeed a simple man, so simple that all he needed was just a bit of nature to keep him occupied for the long and difficult hike up the mountain.
He had to admit, all this hiking was starting to do a number on his feet. Probably didn't help that he was forced to wear these worn out shoes. Climbing the mountain may have been more exhausting than his walks through the fields or the streets back in Tokyo, but he wasn't out of steam yet. Walking had always been his method of choice for processing information. A healthy body makes for a healthy mind, after all.
When the opportunity for a break presented itself he nodded in agreement. Hands curled into fists and rested on his hips as he took in a deep breath of fresh mountain air. "Sounds good. Wouldn't mind having a moment to really take it all in."

She missed her apartment, oddly enough. The shitty furnishing, the single couch-futon that had beer stains, the way it always smelled of the girls from the night before and of burnt poptarts and how the broken shower head leaked and strained against the flow of water. She was built for the urban setting, not this scale of wilderness and outdoorsmanship.
"Take your time." She was in no rush. This was all said and done, in her eyes; all they had to do was scale to the top. She took the moment of silence to mull over some thoughts, staring up at Farmy once she was finished and had collected her thoughts. In a quiet moment, she sent him a friend request.
"More quests later. Agreeable company."
She nodded silently, looking away to avoid any kind of actual interpersonal moment. No need for that out here.

And take his time he did! In fact he was pretty sure he could spend hours up on that mountain without losing interest. It was almost a scary thought, but in certain ways this actually looked better than reality. As strange as that may have sounded to himself, it kind of made sense when he thought about it. This whole world had so much love and detail put into it, like every vista was carefully designed. It was all just too amazing. He was really starting to like this game.
The sudden pop-up came as a surprise, especially after he realized what it was. 'Friend request'? Farms smiled wide as he looked over to Comic, looking rather pleased with the whole thing. He nodded in silence as he accepted the request before curling his hands into fists and resting them on his hips. "I'd like that Comic. I know we didn't talk much, but I really enjoyed your company." There was something about being in the company of someone who came off as so strong and confident that made him feel at ease. This was his first time traveling through a dangerous area, and he was glad to have someone like Comic be there to help. "If you ever need anything let me know. I owe you for helping me get up here." While he was sure she could have made it up here on her own, he couldn't really say the same for himself. | I DON'T need THE WHOLE PIE, I JUST WANT MY LITTLE SLICE
