This NPC had almost knocked her off her feet. Comic was just trying to get around the outside of town when an NPC popped off of the fence and jumped in front of her, landing right at her feet. Almost on her feet, in fact, hence nearly falling onto her ass. Instinctively she swung her fist out, but the NPC dipped back and laughed before rattling off the quest prompt.
Quest acceptance menu popped up in her HUD. It required another person... wonderful. Picking herself up proper after nearly falling and failing to land a punch, she propped up next to the fence to wait for another person to get caught up and called into this quest nonsense. With any luck, she wouldn't have to wait much longer. It wouldn't be like the beta; there were tons of people now.
All it took as a little time.

Initially he was surprised with how much he was enjoying the game. The exploration, the scenery and the people were all quite pleasant. But after spending more time than he would care to admit trying to navigate the main menu, he was still unable to find how he was supposed to log out. Everyone he asked told him to 'send in a ticket', whatever that meant. Eventually he managed to file a complaint, but for now all he could do was try to enjoy himself until he heard back. Needless to say it put a bit of a damper on the mood, but he was still able to to take in the sights.
It still blew his mind how well the game captured the refreshing crispness of truly fresh air, something he had missed since moving to Tokyo. As he walked along the path on the outskirts of town, he found himself being ambushed by a random man that had previously escaped his notice. He took a step back, initially startled by the sudden presence. Of course he turned out to be another one of those quest people, this one saying something about a mountain? That actually sounded...really nice.
As he took one last look at the window that hovered in front of him, he came to the realization that he would be needing assistance on this. This was a bit of a relief, considering he had yet to come across something he DIDN'T need help with in this game. And he was in luck, as there seemed to be someone else loitering in the area.
Farms approached the woman with a faint look of excitement on his face, smiling softly as he bowed his head. "Hello, stranger. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing, but would you like to climb a mountain with me?" Hopefully she wouldn't mind a bit of dead weight.

Time was on her side and only ten moments passed before another person got ambushed by the NPC. It was a bit surprising that he could move and work so fast; she had mostly dealt with young children NPCs and older women, so this really energetic NPC managed to score another mark before she could even get comfortable.
One tick, two ticks, she hadn't even looked up from her viewpoint of her feet upon the ground before the newbie approached her. Comic cocked back her head, letting her hair cascade past her face and onto her shoulders as she sized this guy up, eyes going from his feet to his face as she made a... look. Not a bad one, just... not good.
"Uh, sure." That was all she had to say on the matter before popping open her menu and pegging him with a party request for the quest prompt. Might as well get this underway.

It was hard to tell exactly how he should have felt about her reaction to his invitation. It didn't look like she was angry or frustrated. Maybe she was just...unimpressed? Looking down at himself he couldn't really blame her for that. A clearly rusty and battered sword at his side and worn out clothes were a sure sign of a new player. He shifted his weight slightly as he looked back at the woman with a helpless smile on his face. "So you see why I need your help." No matter what she may have thought about him she was still kind enough to offer him an invite to the party.
He jumped slightly as the window popped up in his vision, still not used to all of these UI elements. "So I just accept and we're good to go, right?" With a touch of the digital menu he accepted the invitation, eyes instantly moving to the new elements that appeared before him. After a quick pause to process this new information he turned back to Comic with a smile "Comic. That's an interesting name choice." They were going to be climbing a mountain together, so it wouldn't hurt to start being friendly early.Who knew how long all of this was going to take? "Well I'm ready when you are."

It wasn't really a matter of needing help, it was just... well, she was used to more at this point. Getting as far as they did in the beta, only to have it all gone and having to do all of this from the start was frustrating. She had already managed to eek out an advantage over some of the others, but she needed more to reach her goal. Spamming quests with anyone - even this guy - would have to do.
"Yeah." That was... a good response, right?
She practically scowled when her name was mentioned. Not like "Farmsalot" was any better; that was practically a throwaway name that made this feel too much like an older MMO. She was here to forget that whole fucking place, not deal with someone who might spam all chat with guild requests. Beggers couldn't be choosers.
"Sure. Let's go for it." The compass directional slammed up into the right of her HUD; she took a moment to check it out, pointed herself in the right direction, and began an immediate march into the field.
"Keep up."

Her attitude was a little...discouraging. This was the first person he encountered that didn't seem interested talking at all. He looked at her with a puzzled expression, unsure of how he was supposed to approach the situation. As he went back over their brief interaction in his head he couldn't think of anything he said or did that would put her off. Maybe she was just grumpy because she was being effected by the log out glitch. Yeah, that made sense.
It took him a moment to register that she had already started off with out him, forcing him to move at a brisk pace in an effort to catch up. "I'm right behind you." He tried his best to stay upbeat in this scenario, but for some reason he doubted she was going to return the favor. It would really be a shame if she was in such a bad mood that she didn't get to enjoy the scenery. The view from the mountain top was going to be breathtaking, he was sure of it. Surely she would kick herself later if she realized she glanced over such an opportunity. Maybe he could cheer her up before they got there.
A few more hurried steps and he found himself walking by her side, looking over with an exaggerated smile on his face. "Looks like we're going to be traveling together for a while. May as well take some time to get to know each other." Gaze turned back to the path ahead, smile losing strength as he did. He really should have thought up of a topic of discussion before starting the actual conversation. "So...Comic. What made you pick that name? I'm not sure what it refers to, but it rolls off the tongue nicely." Compliments were good, right? Hopefully that would be a good foot to start off on.

Enjoying the scenery wasn't in her list of plans for the moment. Getting prepped for the labyrinth - now that was something she was down for. She could stop to enjoy the peace of Floor 1 once they hit Floor 2 again. She was certain there must be others who share that mindset - that need to rush past all of the beta bullshit, to hit the golden egg lying deep in the forest.
To do that, she needed money. To get money, you needed quests. Hence why she was putting up with a glorified checkpoint quest with... this guy. She tallied over the fact that, so far, he hadn't done anything wrong. Marisa considered easing up, but quickly backed out of it. He needed to know she wasn't going to put up with anything and to get things done. That was the way she wanted it, that was how she preferred it.
It was to her chagrin, then, that he initiated conversation. With a mixture of a growl and an ugh, she slowed her pace and turned her head towards him in resignation of her position. "It is my online handle." Her voice was gruff, almost like a chain smoker's. "I take it you put thought into yours."

The response he received was...unexpected. He would have never expected a young lady to be so gruff, especially not with a stranger. A hand raised to scratch the back of his head, clearly confused by her manner. Again he had to remind himself that some people weren't as fine with being stuck in the game as he was. Who knows, maybe this Comic woman just planned to pop into the game just before bed and found herself trapped here. Yes, that would make anyone forget their manners. With that bit of self assurance in the back of his head, all of this was much easier to deal with.
Steps slowed to keep pace with her, head bobbing slowly as he tried to understand the jargon. He had never heard the term 'online handle' before. He could only assume that was referring to their name, considering that's what it was here. "A handle, you say? I see..." He would have to ask someone about that phrase at a later date, hopefully someone in a better mood. There was a certain look of excitement on his features, though it barely showed through his generally flat expression. Against even his own expectations, he actually managed to strike up a conversation! What a pleasant surprise.
"I wouldn't say a too much thought. To be honest I didn't care too much about my username, so I just kind of...made this up." He didn't really expect anyone to call him by 'Farmsalot' when he first started playing. For some reason it never really occurred to him that thousands of people would see that name. Well there was no going back now. "It actually does have some reason to it, though. I knew this game had a medieval western theme to it, so I thought back to some of the old stories about the time. Like Lancelot." He held up one hand in front of him with his palm facing outward, as if it was to aid in his explanation. "And then also I'm in school for agricultural engineering, and spent most of my life working on a farm." Second hand extended in a similar manner to the first, eyes turning to look at Comic as he did. "So I just brought those together..."
His hands game together until they made contact with each other, creating a wall of hand. "And that's how I got Farmsalot. I never thought about it, but I guess you could say it's my way of mixing a bit of myself into this world." It was a nice thought, one that would have never occurred to him even just a few hours ago. This place really gave him a lot to think about. With a deep breath he turned his gaze back to the path, gesturing forward before returning his hands to his sides. "But please, don't slow down for me. I'm just as eager to get going as you are."

Comic agreed; he hadn't put a lot of thought into his name. For most of his explanation, she had been looking away; finding the best way forward and trying to plan out the quickest way across the field and into the field. She heard every word, and by the time he finished his explanation, she turned back to look at him with some level of confusion.
"Are you actually a farm boy?" Did they even have internet out there in the boondocks? Perhaps he was the stereotype of the small town boy moving to the big city; maybe this was his first rodeo, which would explain his stiffness to all of this. Moving deeper into the fields, she made way to pull out her <<One Trick Pony>>, feeling it within her grip and turning it around. They were in pig territory now.
"Well, Clark Kent, get ready."

Well at least his rambling didn't seem to irritate her any further. Despite her apparent inattentiveness, he was pleasantly surprised to find that she was indeed listening to him! Looks like things were at least tilting slightly in favor of this being an enjoyable trip. Though it didn't seem like she got much out of it other than that he grew up on a farm. Fortunately after spending two years in the big city he was pretty familiar with this question. Some modern people seemed to have trouble believing there were still people working on farms. "Yes, or at least I used to be. Been living in the city for two years now." That being said, he knew he was a farm boy in just about every sense of the word.
Her reference went completely over his head, brows furrowing as he returned her previous look of confusion. "I don't get it-" His sentence ended abruptly as glanced toward her sword, the sudden realization causing him to stop in his tracks. "Wait, what's that for? I thought we were just climbing the mountain. No one said anything about having to fight." He was already prepared for her inevitable response. Coward, wimp, pansy. He was familiar with all of these terms. While he may have been caught off guard by the sudden appearance of a blade he didn't show any apparent signs of fear. Well, at least she could fully confirm that he was a newbie. She grunted, turned the blade over once more. "Pigs, probably. Maybe nepents in the woods." She pointed with her sword to illustrate the point, then stopped moving altogether to stare at him up and down.
"I've done this before, during beta. If we keep moving, we'll minimize encounters, but there's still a chance of it happening. I'll handle all the combat. Just focus on self-defense; keep yourself alive, and you'll be doing fine." It was the most she had said to anyone in a few days, but she tried to keep it as minimal as possible. He wouldn't need to assist her with pigs, she figured; in the Beta, she could pop them with a single hit. Should be the same here, right?
The forest could prove to be difficult, but... well, he moved fast. They could get there. She let the blade rest on her shoulder and started back to the beaten path. She made an effort to pick up the pace this time, as fast of a walk as she could manage.

This woman was just full of surprises. He fully expected her to insult his unwillingness to fight. In fact she didn't seem to have any sort of reaction at all. The matter of fact reasoning she gave made it difficult to tell exactly what she was thinking. But so long as she wasn't angry he was going to have to take that as a win. He nodded quickly, satisfied with her reasoning. "I'll stay close." It was comforting to know that she was a beta tester. An experienced player who already knew the lay of the land would definitely come in handy on this quest.
Farms drew his rusty blade, holding it tightly as he followed behind at a matched pace. It reminded him of playing in the wilderness with his brother so many years ago. They would pretend to be sneaking around, avoiding dangerous bears and wolves that were hiding in the shadows. This was much the same, the illusion of fear with no real threats present. Still he sincerely hoped he wasn't going to be forced to fight. He would have thought twice about accepting this quest if he knew that would be the case.
He navigated the rough terrain well for someone who had never been in the area before. In fact he himself was amazed at how well they replicated these wilderness areas. The twigs snapping beneath your feet, the loose rocks tumbling down the slopes behind and the way the light shone through the leaves. It was all too real. Like he was back home again. | I DON'T need THE WHOLE PIE, I JUST WANT MY LITTLE SLICE

It would be going down one of these simple slopes that would lead into the first - and maybe only - battle of the entire quest. As they moved down, one of the pigs moved from out of the rocky outcrop to their side; at first it seemed to be ignorant of their location, but Comic took a few too many quick steps to try and hurry past it and ended up drawing its attention in full. A squeal, a charge, and it was headed right for them. "To the side!"
She hoped the farm boy would heed her warning on the double as she stepped to the side herself and took an activation stance; a Sword Art to cleave into the flesh of the pig as it moved by.

She cut into it, but rather than get the shower of crystals and defeat, it turned onto its side and charged her again, clipping her and inflicting damage. Marisa grunted and took up a defensive stance, looking understandably pissed. What the hell? These things used to pop on one hit... that wasn't a good sign at all if they had been buffed.

He really should have known better than thinking this was going to be a safe trip. The rewards were far too good for it to be a simple point A to point B quest. When he first caught sight of the boar he tightened his grip on his blade, following closely behind Comic as they tried to quickly get past it. It seemed like it only took a split second for it to go from completely oblivious of them to aggressively charging forward. Not even real boars were this violent!
Fortunately Farms was ready, immediately moving to the side and away from Comic. He watched carefully as she swung at the beast, her blade cutting through the air and delivering a solid blow. It seemed that hitting it made the bar over it's head drop. Did that signify how much life it had left in it? As he considered that the monster turned and struck at her, which seemed to catch her by surprise. Teeth clenched as he watched her angrily look at her attacker, suddenly feeling an overwhelming need to lend aid. He really didn't want to fight, but at this point it was more about helping a friend than killing a creature.
He clenched the sword so hard his knuckles turned white, sprinting a short distance to get behind the boar while it was distracted with Comic. With a deep breath he mimicked the form of her initial attack and swung the blade with all his might in a Horizontal Slash (11 damage). The boar let out a squeal, likely surprised by the sudden attack. Farms looked up at the bar above the creature as he let out a gasp of air. How long was had he been holding his breath? "Are you alright Comic?"

No time to answer immediately, as she was absorbed in the flow of combat. Her feet were finally keeping up with her senses, and she stumbled back one, two, three steps before bringing her sword to bare. Second verse, same as the first, and she waited for the pig to charge at her first before she retaliated. It was just a matter of waiting it out for a second or two, moment by moment, before pouncing on the opportunity to get at the oinker. Farms' attack had been enough to give it aggro issues; does it attack the one who did more damage, or the most recent? It turned to her to attack, and she welcomed the opportunity to relive the situation.
SWORD ART <<HORIZONTAL>>: 10 DMG. STR: 2. DEX: 0. -- DISADVANTAGE! ONE TRICK PONY: 5 DMG. TOTAL DMG: 17 DMG.
ANGRY PIG: 22 HP. DEX: 0 -- NEUTRAL! ANGRY PIG: 5 HP.
Slice and dice; she managed to avoid the pig this time, side stepping and then cutting into it with another flash of the blade. This sword was at least better than the rusty hunk of junk she could have had; the one in farm's hand. But that couldn't be helped; she had the foresight from beta to try and scrounge up maximum gear as early as possible. She might inform him as such.
She didn't answer him throughout the sequence, silent intensity burning on her face as she focused.
