history
Ayame was a top young athlete, earning herself a guaranteed athletic scholarship to University for fencing, until a career-ending injury put her dreams to an end. Instead of letting her dreams die, Ayame found new hope in the full dive experience promised by the NerveGear and its launch title, Sword Art Online. She spent hours researching the different Sword Arts and skill trees, sucking up any new information she could from the promotional materials and teaser trailers. While Ayame has spent a lot of time studying SAO, she isn’t really a gamer, and is instead much more invested in full dive than she is the objective of the game. Ayame pushes herself, perhaps too hard, to be at the top end of her physical endurance both in- and out of- game. She is stubborn and cannot accept being wrong about anything, and often lets her temper get the best of her in those situations. Ayame was, like most, startled by Kayaba’s announcement, but as time goes on further she finds herself relieved that Sword Art Online is her new reality and she doesn’t have a physical body to hold her back.
friends
She doesn’t like to sugarcoat things and can often come across as callous, but underneath Ayame is a fiercely loyal friend who will “tell it like it is.” Ayame does not see a need in maintaining many casual acquaintanceships and will most likely deny friend requests, unless she has spent a good amount of time journeying with the player. She is the type of person who wouldn’t friend random strangers on Xbox Live, for example.
enemies
Ayame tends to keep to herself, so she doesn’t make many enemies. But, she will not tolerate people exploiting those who are weaker or different in some way. For example, she would not tolerate a player trade sharking because of a language barrier, and she will not tolerate anyone who PK’s, especially because of what is now at stake.
romance
Ayame does not put much emphasis on romance. Her life revolved around her hobbies to an extent that she barely had time for friends in the real world, and she expects that there will be something else that will steal her attention fully in the virtual world. She is open to it, though, if someone can interest her enough to think that it’s worth her time.
