Marth continued staring ahead though taking small glances at their surroundings in hopes that nothing else would pop out. Soon the village of Tolbana came into view and the NPC hurried forward to greet the people waiting at the entrance. The young warrior grinned and settled his hands on his hips while taking in a deep breath. It felt nice to see something else besides forest for a little while.
"I've never been so happy to see a village!"
Watching the NPC reconcile with their loved ones, a window appeared in front of him signaling that the quest came to an end. Marth hesitated before glancing over his shoulder at her only to rub the back of his neck while looking away.
"I guess this is where the quest comes to an end, huh?"
He felt as though there was something that needed to be said. Her words wouldn't stop bothering him and the image of her crying unsettled him even more. Marth frowned and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Listen, I don't mean to beat a point into the ground but it is okay to feel afraid. Just don't let it hold you back, y'know? You're a lot stronger than that."
What am I saying?
It all felt embarrassing. Like a shounen hero speech and he wasn't exactly the hero type. Fighting back a blush that threatened to show on his face, he opened his menu and sent a friend invitation her way.
"And you don't have to do this by yourself, I'm here for what it's worth. So," he smiled a little. "Feel free to rely on me too."
He turned his head slightly and smiled at her before dissolving the party. Tucking his hands in his pockets and turning his back to her and the forest, he sighed and tried to relax his nerves. Waving his hand dismissively and walking past the NPC along with her family. But a thought occurred to him and Marth turned around to yell back to her.
"And Alice!" He said. "I really think you're pretty! Thanks for hanging out with me!"
He gave her a broad smile before turning on his heel and continuing down the path into Tolbana. Every cell in his brain was kicking him at once but Marth couldn't shake the lightheartedness that he felt.
