Pax was getting irritated. None of the shops had any actually good items. He'd discovered that on the second day when he'd bought the shoddy armor he was wearing now. Even thinking about the armor made him painfully aware of how it didn't mesh well with him. It was just a bit too bulky without being worth the protection. That inefficiency really got on every nerve in his being.
He had briefly questioned a lot of other players travelling around about gear they'd had. A couple of the players had mentioned something about a player crafter. He hadn't met anyone who had actually gone down the path of crafting things, but this was an opportunity he could not afford to miss. One player had said the crafter was heading for the inn. He had made a beeline for it.
He could see the inn in the distance. He walked at a brisk pace, armor weighing down on him more with every clink it made. It had taken him the better part of the day to gather information on this person. He hated wasting time. He reached the door to the inn and swung it open a little more forcefully than he meant to. He gazed about the room, panting a bit.
"I need the craftsman," he blurted out, deciding to get right to the point, "I've got col I'd rather not waste on NPCs." Farmsalot

It was nice to take some time away from the forge to enjoy a hearty meal. The 'normal' food here was quite different from what he was used to back home. It felt so western, far removed from the much lighter meals he usually ate back home. Yet even in a virtual world he still didn't allow himself to eat any meat. Once he got back to reality he didn't want to get used to breaking his dietary habits.
He smiled to himself as he enjoyed his biscuits and gravy, something that was a rare treat for him back home. Though after only a few bites of food he found himself being startled by the sudden entry of a strange figure. The way they aggressively swung the door open put him on edge, grip on his fork tightening as he watched him. Much to his relief the man didn't seem to have any ill will, instead looking for a craftsman of some description.
Farms sighed as he set down his utensil and stood up from his seat. Well he supposed he could eat and chat at the same time. He slowly approached the man, his copper boot clinking against the stone floor as he did. "I may be able to help you, sir." Once he had gotten closer he moved to rest a hand on his shoulder, his other arm gesturing to the table where he sat. "Would you mind joining me? As much as I would like to help I would rather not let my food get cold." He took a moment to glance around the Inn, starting to feel a bit nervous at the feeling of that many eyes on him. Fortunately it wasn't long before everyone was done staring at the strange man and back to eating their meals.

Pax half expected the entire inn to just remain silent, staring back at him as if he were some lunatic. He would've been fine with that if he weren't so distraught. He watched, however, as someone responded and stood up from their chair. With a frown, Pax looked at the table. They had only just begun to eat. Dread struck his core. He had interrupted someone in the middle of their meal. An unforgivable crime.
To top it off, he was called sir. This brought Pax back from his fantasy of killing people over food. He nodded and followed this new acquaintance back to his table, "You should be a little crueler to me. Would I mind joining you? As if I didn't just careen into a crowd of people like a court fool."
Pax shook his head. He wasn't trying to sound cruel or anything. He actually extremely appreciated not getting yelled at immediately. It was a nice change of pace from what his past two days and nights had been. Constant questing. Constant fighting. But worst of all, dealing with his sister keeping up with him. On the outside, he probably looked like he had been in constant combat for a year, as bad a shape as he was in. He had a few dents in his armor, and there was more than enough dirt on his face to warrant a bath. With a sigh, he reluctantly agreed to join the man at his table. He careful pulled out the seat and sat down in it as gently as he could. Sure, the NPC furniture couldn't break, but that was no reason to sit like an animal.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, steadying himself. He opened his eyes slowly and looked at the man from across the table, and then he bowed his head, doing his best to be respectful, "My name is Paxilon and I'm in need of your services. But, I can wait until you've finished your meal before we discuss anything further. I would be more than upset to be interrupted in the middle of a meal." Farmsalot

Farms shook his head as he made his way back to his seat. His response to the invitation was unexpected, though still somewhat amusing. Still despite the odd response the man still followed him back toward the table. "I'm not going to scold you for that. We're in desperate times, aren't we? Personally I'm just glad to see someone taking things seriously." He never understood how some people could spend their time playing around like they were still in some sort of game. As far as Farms was concerned, fun was a luxury at this point.
Setting himself down in his seat he immediately stuck his fork into his meal and scooped out another bite. He continued to eat as Paxilon spoke, being sure to maintain semi-consistent eye contact so he knew he was listening. Farms nodded along, fully agreeing with his sentiment. "I appreciate your concern, but it's fine. I'm used to talking and eating at the same time." Growing up he didn't have much free time, between working on the farm and school. The only time he got to really talk with his family was over dinner, so he got used to eating and talking at the same time. That's also how he learned the important lesson of never talking with your mouth full.
"I'm sorry, but there's no guarantee that I can help you. I'm only able to craft metal armors, not leather or weapons." He paused for a moment, another bit of his meal sitting on his fork as he looked Pax over. They had the look of a man who had been fighting long and hard. This was a good sign, but he still wanted to be sure about what he was getting in to with this one. "I almost forgot, my name is Farmsalot. Why don't you tell me a bit about yourself Paxilon. What exactly do you need?"

Pax nodded as he watched the man eat. With a gulp, he realised this was the first time he'd actually talked to a played crafter. He felt his forehead get clammy for a moment. He couldn't remember the last time he'd dealt with someone who actually used the crafting skills in a game. He had no foundation for what these kind of players were like. One of the only things he was good at when it came to people skills was that he could read people. He had no starting point to work with here, though. He shook these thoughts out of his head, however. He was here for a specific purpose.
"If you insist," Pax took in a deep breath, and then he spoke, keeping his voice as level as he could, "Listen. If you work with metals, you can definitely help me. I'm not looking for some fancy DEX build. I have to be able to take a hit. I work best when I'm in the enemy's face, you know? I need to be a wall. Something my allies can hide behind. Add any other sentimental phrases you want to that."
Pax felt his stomach rumble slightly as he watched the man eat. He had eaten recently, but he was always on the move. Always burning calories. Did this game have a system for caloric intake? This was something he definitely need to get his sister to calculate. He focused his attention back to the man, "I've been doing quests and farming almost non-stop for the last couple of days. If you need any material or any col, I can almost certainly deliver. I just need to be able to hold my own on the field. To be able to do that, any material price is insignificant."
Pax nodded, sure of himself on this matter. And then the Farmsalot told him his name. Pax almost started laughing, but settled for a quick smile instead. He couldn't afford to offend someone he desperately needed help from. Even he knew that. He looked Farmsalot in the eyes with a bit of a vicious grin, "Me? I like to do a little bit more than I'm supposed to. Almost literally all the time."
He gestured to the few dents in his overly simple plate armor, "This thing is bound to fall apart soon, and I need something that can handle being used constantly. I don't much care what it looks like. I just need it to work." Farmsalot

Much as before Farms went about his meal as Paxilon told his story. He nodded along as he chewed his food, considering his words as he did so. Her certainly sounded like a hard worker, a point that was further emphasized by his present condition. But what really got him was the reasoning behind why he needed the armor. "A wall..." He muttered to himself as he scooped up another bit and popped it into his mouth. That was a good thing to be.
Setting the fork down on his plate Farms took one last moment to consider what he had heard. "I'll help you." He smiled as he spoke, this moment being something that he always enjoyed. Being able to help players in such a big way was more than worth what he lost in profits. "You've been working hard, and I have a lot of respect for that. It's an honor to help anyone who's trying to protect their allies." A hand moved to slide the plate away from himself before bringing his elbows up on to the table.
"All I ask is that you bring me the materials and give me a little bit of time. Once I have what I need I'll get them to you as soon as possible." He paused after he spoke, looking out at the groups of people that were spread across the bar. It really got him thinking. "We're all in this together, you know? Just keep doing what you're doing. Keep questing, keep helping people." He took a deep breath as he turned his gaze back to Paxilon, a hint of doubt intruding upon his features. "And if you come across anyone really in need of good armor, let me know. I can't help everyone as you can imagine, but I'm sure you'll come across people who need it more than others." A gauntleted hand reached across the table as he concluded, his eyes locking onto Paxilon's. "Deal?"

Pax released the breath that he had been holding in relief that racked his entire body. He lowered his face on to the table and just moaned out the words that were flooding his very being, "Oh, thank god."
This entire time he had been so worried. He got along with almost no one in this game. He had been so bent on thinking that people would tell him no on principle that this relief was enough to make him properly hungry again. He sat up straight again and shook his head, "Sorry. Yeah, that I've been working hard is an understatement. I can definitely get you the materials. You'll need iron . . . what was it, again? Iron . . . bars?"
He sighed and rubbed his temples. Crafting was one thing he never did in games like this. It was usually a waste of time. He could definitely see the benefits of it now, though, "Alright. I'll get you what you need. All in this together? I wish everyone saw it like that. Some people seem to forget about the whole dying thing, though. But, barring all strange pieces of this conversation, I accept your proposition, with the addendum that I'll send people your way if your armor doesn't get me killed."
Pax shook Farm's hand firmly, with a big, relieved grin on his face. A thought occurred to him and he flicked his menu open, scrolling through the options, "Speaking of helping people in need, if you ever find yourself in trouble . . ."
He sent the friend request, watching the notification get sent to pop up in front of Farm, "I'm almost always available. Poor sleeping schedule and all that." Farmsalot

Smile grew as Paxilon seemed to become more relieved. It was good to see that he could remove what appeared to be a heavy burden from him. The more Farms looked at the man across from himself the more clear it because that this was a serious concern for him. While one couldn't know for certain, he felt at least somewhat confident his work would fare better than that store bought equipment. "It depends on what you want. From the sounds of it you're going to want plate armor. So you should pick up some iron ingots."
Smile faded into a frown as Paxilon spoke his mind. It was difficult to hear that there were still players who refused to work as a proper team. But as long as he felt the same way then he had nothing to regret regarding this transaction. "If my armor gets you killed, then I'll never craft another thing in my life." As dramatic as that sounded, it was the only thing that made sense to him. If by doing the best thing he could think of the help people wound up getting someone killed what would be the point of continuing? Still he smiled at Paxilon, gesturing to himself this time. "Though I guess I would be soon to follow. I make all of my own armor too, you know."
Brows rose as the friend request appeared before him. His features softened at the gesture, nodding his head as he accepted the request. "Looks like I made the right choice helping you." He certainly seemed like he had a genuine interest in helping him, something which he assumed he showed to others as well. Though it was a shame to hear about his unhealthy sleeping schedule. "The same goes for you, of course. I don't just craft armor. If you need another wall to back you up, let me know."
