Pax looked into the woods from the edge and pondered on why he was here. He had heard from quite a few people that there was supposed to be some secret cave in the woods where you could actually log out. He tapped the pommel of his blade with a huff. There was no way Kayaba would program it into the game if he'd been serious about the dying part. Pax knew Kayaba had definitely not been joking. This game was too well balanced and everyone was far too stressed.
Pax stretched his arms and sat down under a tree, bringing one knee up and letting his other leg lay straight out. He knew this was about the time the rumor would culminate enough for people to go flocking to the woods. He wasn't here to find the log out point himself, but rather to get a gauge for the people he was stuck in this game with. He wondered just how many players would believe the rumor. If he saw anyone who needed help, he might as well help those people out too. He needed a few more people who thought he was reliable. Allies, he realised, is what most people called them.
Leaning his head back against the trunk, he closed his eyes and almost started snoozing away. He had a feeling he wouldn't be waiting for long. Event

As she approached the area, the pink-haired girl’s heart sank. It appeared to be mostly empty; she had expected there to be an entire crowd of people gathering at the location. If the rumors were true, everyone would have been swarming the place to logout, unless she was one of the first to find out about it? Information was spotty nowadays; it traveled at weird speeds and always got altered somewhere along the way. She wasn’t sure if this was something she could trust, but a little sliver of hope was better than nothing.
Besides, she had a store back at home to tend to.
Walking closer, August noticed another player sitting underneath a tree. No, he wasn’t sitting. Sleeping? Rather dangerous to do out all by yourself when everyone had weapons and getting hit one too many times meant death. She strengthened her footsteps as she had no intentions of startling him. With a heavy stroll she approached with a smile on her face, mouth opening to chirp out a greeting. “HEY!” she half-yelled with enthusiasm, “did you hear about the logout button too?”

He had almost fallen asleep. It was damn near miraculous how many times now someone had done this. Someone was yelling at him when he was on the doors of slumber. He gave a hearty sigh and sat up straight. Pink hair. It was also amazing how often people had strange colored hair, despite the mirror trick Kayaba had pulled. He tilted his head to the side as the girl neared him. Maybe he was in an anime or manga after all.
"Yeah," Pax grunted a bit as he pushed himself off the ground, the bulky slab of iron that he called armor clinking as he straightened his back and stretched, "Although, I believe they said it was a cave of sorts, and not really a spot. Specifics don't matter too much as long as it works, right?"
He took his helmet off and shook his head, bright blue eyes glinting in the sunlight, "Hi, I'm Paxilon. Most just call me Pax. Are you going to go off exploring the forest?" august

“I’m sorry if I woke you up, although it isn’t smart to be sleeping out here all by yourself,” she noted as she pressed a finger to her chin and smiled widely. Talking to strangers was never a problem for her; it was probably going to get her killed one day, especially in an environment like this. “Ah well, you know how rumors work,” she laughed at his correction. At least she had heard the specifics well enough to know the general area of where to go.
She took a slight step back to give Paxilon room to get up. Personal space wasn’t really a concern, she was more worried about accidentally being hit. Groggily people sometimes didn’t have good balance (she was guilty of being one of those people). “You can call me August! Nice to make your acquaintance, or rather not so if you think about the cirumstances, but I'd rather not dwell on that.” Maybe they would have met in the outside world, who knew.
“I was planning on it, yes! But, not alone. I don’t have much on me and I’m afraid I’d be in some trouble if I ran into a mob on my own.” There was safety in numbers, weren’t there?

Pax did his best to smile at the girl. It was a little shaky, but otherwise sincere. He looked off to the woods and shrugged. It was the nature of rumors to be non specific. He decided not to say anything about being woken up. It was a common problem for him to run into trouble every time he tried to nap somewhere that wasn't safe. Coincidence was pretty strong with it, but he wasn't one to argue with the universe.
"Nice to meet you, August," Pax cocked an eyebrow at the girl and let out a light hearted laugh, "Well, I'll say it's nice, anyway. A little hiccup like being trapped in a world of death shouldn't bring down the mood of making new friends. I could argue that being trapped here should make making new friends even that much more exciting, considering everything."
Pax turned and gestured to the woods with one hand, "These woods hold a lot of monsters, so you're right to not venture in alone and poorly equipped. If you want, I can take you to look for the cave. Personally, I'm skeptical, but if it exists, the best case scenario is that it has a limited amount of log outs it can use. So, we'd best get moving if we are gonna look for it." august

"Yes!" she agreed as she clapped her hands together, "No one is ever going to make it out if we continue fighting. I've been seeing a lot of that in town." It was getting to the point where August just avoided large gatherings in general. People were starting to get antsy and taking their frustrations out on one another, never a good way to solve anything.
She wasn't entirely sure if it existed either, but it wasn't as if August had other plans for the day. "Even if it's not there, it would be a story to tell later. If it is, I'll ship you whatever baked goods you want once we're back in the real world," she promised. It was a small price to pay for getting back there. She was too poor and too low level to be able to create anything up to the quality she used to be able to in the real world. It was such a shame; she missed her own freshly made bread.
"If we run into anyone in there, lets hope they're friendly." PAXILON

Pax nodded solemnly. He'd seen a lot of the fighting as well. Players practically ripping out each others' throats for even the slightest thing. He had run into a lot of trouble himself over his armor and weapon. There wasn't as much of a fuss over it as there used to be, though. Especially after he'd put that one guy on his ass. He smiled at the thought.
"Ship me baked goods, you say?" Pax's blue eyes lit up with a fire that hadn't been there in a while, "Well! We better find one, then! A man like me cannot pass up the opportunity for food! Let's go!"
He started marching into the woods, making sure he had his sword out and shield equipped. He smiled and turned back to wink at August, "Don't worry, if we run into any trouble with players, it should be fine. I've dealt with them before." august

His reaction only made her grin harder. Was this type of bribery frowned upon? He was already willing to help her anyways, but maybe this would add in some extra effort for the promise of a homemade cake of some sort. She had a sword on her, but absolutely no idea how to use it virtual or real or otherwise.
Give her a knife and maybe then she’d understand how to hold it better, but even then August wasn’t really a fan of using kitchen utensils to personally gut a live animal. “Oh, thank goodness. I mean, I hope you mean that in a diplomatic sort of way,” she added.
He was still green, a good sign. She had yet to run into any orange or red players, but that was to be expected given how she rarely ventured outside of the town. It was good dangerous out there for her and while she could have always asked her friends for help to make her stronger, she wasn’t sure if she even wanted to travel outside of the safe zones without a reason. "Diplomatic . . . yeah . . ." Pax put his helmet back on with a sigh, not wanting to explain how he dealt with players that threatened him. He twirled his sword in his hand and then stopped, suddenly remembering something. He turned back to the girl and scrolled through his menu.
"I almost forgot to start a party with you," he wasn't sure if she knew all the benefits of partying up, but they were good enough for him to start the party. He gave her a little shrug as he sent out the party invite to her. He wasn't sure what exactly they were going to be facing in these woods, but he had a very strong feeling that his armor was going to be very useful. august

"A party?" Someone had explained that game mechanic to her once, but their words didn't come back into her memory until she clicked the invite button. This was going to make it much easier for them to keep track of one another, not that August could really do much with the information given how she was only a little over useless. "I never really ventured out of town," she admitted, "I'm regretting that just a little bit right now..."
She didn't have a game plan in mind for how they were going to search the woods for a cave. In theory caves were already supposed to remain pretty hidden, so she doubted it was just going to be hanging out in the middle of an open field for them to stumble into. "Have you ever been around here before?" she asked. If he had felt comfortable enough to fall asleep here, maybe he knew the area better than she initially assumed.
Her foot got tangled in some vine for only a moment, but the snag in her walking had been enough to cause her to yip suddenly as she yanked it free. She looked over at Pax with an apologetic smile and tried to pretend the entire incident just didn't happen. PAXILON

Pax nodded a bit and looked up in the corner of his hud at her name and stats as she joined the party. He scoffed inwardly. She really had never been out of town before. He was caught between sending her back to town now and taking her along in his party to help her level up and learn how to fight. He decided on the latter of his choices.
"Well, town is fun and all," Pax laughed a bit, "But you gotta go on an adventure every now and then! Even if it's something as simple as taking a mountain hike, you know?"
Pax thought for a moment as the girl asked if he'd been out here before. He tried to recall exactly all of the times he'd been out in these woods and shook his head with a light chuckle, "Nope! I've only been out here a couple times. Now, let's go before someone gets there first."
With that, he pushed through a bush, crushing most of it in the process. august

"Maybe," August laughed, "but this is the first video game I've played in at least a decade." She was probably being way too casual about how dire this situation was. She knew a little bit about how they work; her friend was an internet star with 'let's plays' and she found herself watching her streams on occasion to show support, but August was still unsure about how most things worked.
She wasn't even sure if it was correct to call this a video game anymore. It felt more real than anything else she had ever watched her friends play. There was no part of her that felt as if it was misplaced or translated long when she put that helmet on. She wondered if there were people who sometimes forgot this wasn't real.
August trotted along behind Pax has he made his way through the woods. Her eyes lit up when she slightly hopped over the crushed bush. Maybe traveling through here wouldn't be that difficult with him leading the way. He could certainly clear a path for her. PAXILON

Post by Kaito on Nov 18, 2016 16:30:56 GMT -6
Curiosity of the Masses Kaito had been eating breakfast in the lobby of the inn she’d been staying in when she heard the news.
A Log Out Point.
Without giving it a second thought, Kaito raced towards the wooded thicket on Aincrad’s first floor. She could see her family again. She could go back to school. She had so many thoughts running through her head - like what true tea tasted like, among others - that it wasn’t until the brunette was face to face with the forest’s outskirts that she realized she had no chance of making it to the cave, let alone through it, to be the victor of its spoils. Now that she thought about it, Kaito wasn’t sure she’d make it back to town in her current condition. She had no gear, save for the thin clothes and rusty sword she’d so generously been given by the game’s Cardinal system. Coupling that with the fact that she had no combat experience both in the real world or in Sword Art Online and she was sure that things weren’t in her favor. A fear overcame her as she tried to process the scenarios in which she would make it through this unscathed. She couldn’t think of a single one. Except finding a party to carry me through, she thought. Kaito began wandering the perimeter of the forest, hoping to find someone else to help her, instead of certain death.
Ahead of her she saw a couple, a well-geared man and a younger girl who appeared to be ready to enter the forest. If it’s true… maybe they will be the best way to survive through this. He looks strong enough to cleave through anything.
Kaito tried to get their attention, “Um, excuse me?” she called out to them. “I, uh, seem to be lost,” she said. “Would you two possibly know anything about this ‘log-out cave’?”

Pax was ready for anything. Boars. Dire Wolves. Monster Eggplants. He was so ready, in fact, that he whipped his sword directly at the new voice, ready to attack. Seeing it was just another player, he raised his hand sin the air to show that he meant no harm to the newcomer.
"We don't know much about the cave itself," Pax laughed a bit and then patted his chestplate with his shield hand, "but feel free to help us look for it. We could use an extra pair of eyes."
He flicked through his menu and sent the girl a party invite. He had a feeling there was going to be a lot of fighting in the near future. There was also a strong feeling that he was going to be doing a vast majority of it. As soon as he sent the party invite, there was yet another voice for him to violently point his sword at. Something about this other kid made him not quite raise his hands to show his peaceful nature, though. This kid had the air of someone who knew dirty secrets and would share them for a price. He didn't like people like that very much.
"Either it doesn't exist," Pax still had his sword pointed menacingly at the newcomer, head tilting a bit to the side, "or you think you've found it."
Pax lowered his sword and nodded a bit. He was still wary of this one, but if the kid had found it -or informed them of its lack of being real- it would be helpful. With a sigh, Pax thought about what it all meant, "And if you've found it, there's a reason you're still here. Either it didn't work, or something's guarding it, right?" august Kaito Night
