Loafing Around From City to City

After a good rest following his first ever quest in this realm, Fujiashi was walking down the streets of the Town of Beginnings ready for another quest, maybe one that would take him to the next town over, Horunka. He had crafted a few items and purchased a new sword, so he was ready to take on the world again. As he walked down the street he saw a small bakery shop with a quest flag attached to it. He examined the quest line, and found that this would indeed take him to the next town over, however with it being a simple courier mission it would most likely be rather boring. As with the previous quest, he found that he would need at least one other person to run the task. He flipped on his Looking for Group marker to see if anyone wanted to group up.

Loafing Around From City to City Kaito had a new day to face and with it came a new sense of optimism. She was determined to make the best of this situation, and she knew that there was only one way to do it - to play the game. Kaito had already tried to explore the woods and gotten ambushed by houseplants, and she had decided she really wasn't ready to do *that* again.
But, she was still looking for something else to occupy her time with, perhaps another task-oriented quest. She'd heard about a quest involving bread that seemed pretty simple, so she figured she'd seek that out and maybe meet some new players on the way.
Before she could even reach the NPC, Kaito saw the blinking player beacon and waved at the player operating it.
"Hello, there!" Kaito said to the other player. "Do you need help ferrying bread?"

Fujiashi was looking at the breads laid out on the stand, checking through his inventory to see what his funds looked like after purchasing a bunch of mats for low stat gear. He was pulled out of his thoughts as he heard a small voice call out. He turned his head around to see a black haired female running towards him. She seemed to be about as geared as he was, which meant that she probably wasn't much further along regarding levels. He smiled and turned fully towards her as she ran up to him.
"Hey there! Yeah, I'm looking for some assistance moving this bread from one town to the next. I can't imagine that there's any danger in this one, but there may be. If you are willing to help me it would be amazing." He extended a hand towards her and smiled at her. "My name's Fujiashi! It's a pleasure to meet you miss."

Loafing Around From City to City Kaito laughed quietly behind her hand. "I'm not sure I'm willing to take on some danger... but, maybe if you'll help me, it won't be so bad." He seems nice, she thought. Perhaps a bit gullible and naive, but... I think we could get along for a little while.
Kaito shook his outstretched hand. "I'm Kaito," she informed him. "I, unfortunately, have not found any gear yet that suits my fancy," And is worth the col it's made out of... She shook her head.
Kaito whipped open her user interface and sent him a party invite, the way that she'd been shown by other players she'd met. So far, everyone had taught her something new. I wonder what use I'll get out of this guy?
She shook her head. "Well, this bread isn't going to deliver itself," Kaito said in jest, as she tapped the bread loaves to add them to her inventory. "Would you care to lead the way, Fujiashi?"

Fujiashi smiled as he shook her hand. "Kaito, huh? I think its a nice name. It's short, sweet, and to the point. As far as gear, it's not a big deal, I'll help you out if you need it." The party acceptance screen popped up in front of him, and he raised his gloved hand to the accept button, seeing her portrait, level, and health bar appear in his HUD. He took a few loaves into his inventory as well, smiling as he headed through the city gate and along the path towards the next town, keeping to the main road as much as he could to avoid encounters as they went. He decided to make some small talk as they went.
"So, how are you today? Been busy doing quests or anything like that, or just kind of hanging around the Town of Beginnings?" Fujiashi turned his head towards her as he spoke, as he was always taught eye contact is the first key to good communication between colleagues.

Loafing Around from City to City Kaito followed in stride next to him, having never actually bothered to make this walk. She had spent so long holed up in the starter town, and in her inn room, that she never bothered to explore the true (simulated) nature of the game. Well, except for that business in the forest, but that wasn't really exploring. More, that she found herself in the forest and surrounded by monstrous plants before she could really take in her surroundings.
"No, I've never really left the city," she confessed. "I did a couple of quests in town, but I guess it's time to move on, you know?"
Kaito looked at the sky and saw simulated birds, and clouds. "Do you think that those are bird monsters from other floors? Or just programmed in to simulate the real world?" She never truly noticed how calming the rolling hills of the first floor's battle areas were.
Even the pigs are kind of cute, she thought to herself.

"Yeah, I haven't really done too many quests yet, and I may end up going back to that town, but I feel like I'm not really making progress if I don't leave the starting area, so I can see where you are coming from. "
Fujiashi averted his eyes from her and instead followed her line of sight, staring at the birds above. "Well, from what I experienced in the quest where I had to kill some of these pigs, I found that many of them react as if they were in real life. They seem to feel pain uunfortunately, and get fatigued just as we do. So yes, the birds could indeed be from other floors, since I imagine that the floors are open between each other if you are on the outside of Aincrad. If we could somehow fly, I'm sure we could get from floor to floor with relative ease. As far as the birds' demeanor, I'm sure that they would react similarly to birds from the outside world." He shrugged, looking back down to make sure they were still following the path.
"I have been really impressed with what I have seen from this place regarding it's real world feel. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if this begins to feel like a home away from home as the time passes and the seasons change. I've played many games in the past, but nothing anywhere near like this before. Aside from the ever-present danger of death, which you have in the outside world as well since we are all doomed to our own mortality, there's an almost serene calm that comes over me when I'm out here, or even in town. If something ever bothers you, you can just look up to the sky and cloud gaze just as you could before, and feel those cares fade away." Fujiashi could see the town in the approaching distance as he finished his thoughts. "I'm sorry, I have a bad habit rambling on and on as I get to thinking about certain things."

Loafing Around From City to City Kaito nodded along as her partner spoke. She disagreed with him about making progress, but, she could see where he was coming from if he was truly as into games as he claimed to be. Kaito wondered if she were truly in the minority here, as she hadn't much experience with games - sure, she'd play a few games on her phone here and there, maybe go to an arcade or two - but this was supposed to be her gateway into gaming, and...this is how it turned out.
"I won't kill the pigs," she admitted. "I just.. I've always been against it in real life, you know? Hunting always bothered me... so why would I do it in a virtual world?" She looked down."I guess that sounds kind of stupid, I'm in a virtual game that could literally kill me and I'm not willing to kill a pig."
Kaito felt at ease knowing that others appreciated the environment for what it was. Truly, it could not exceed the real thing, but beauty could be found amongst even the roughest of stones. She enjoyed just exploring the game, completing these simple objectives. Hopefully, I'll be able to survive this way.
As they neared the new town's gate, Kaito was surprised by how small it was. Just a hunting village, nothing to write home about, unlike the towering city that was the Town of Beginnings. "I guess two kilometers really isn't that far of a walk, when you really think about it, huh?"

Fujiashi shrugged at her statements regarding Kaito's morals about killing innocent animals. "To be honest, maybe you don't want to kill innocent animals. That's not really a big deal. You don't have to be on the front lines with those who are attempting to beat the game. You can take it at your own pace, and keep your wits about you however you want. If that means you don't lift a sword against an innocent pig, then you stick by that. The moment you lose your morals, you lose yourself within this game, and you let it win. As long as you stay stalwart and strong, you'll make it out of here without regrets."
As they entered the front gates of the hunting village and walked towards the quest goal, he thought about her second statement. "Yeah, it didn't really seem like it took so long, but a lot of it was probably due to the fact that we didn't travel in silence the entire time." He interacted with the quest reciever. "Huh, I didn't realize it, and maybe it told us in the quest details, but this looks like our giver's twin." He shrugged as he hit the button to turn in the quest, and turned to Kaito.
"Well, that's that I suppose. It was nice to meet you Kaito. If you ever want to go on a courier quest, or need a quest done where you need something killed and you don't feel up to doing it, feel free to hit me up."
