Gran sat sprawled across the boulder outside the city, head hanging off the edge of it so that her vision was completely upside down. She watched player after player walk by and mostly ignore her. People still weren't over the whole old thing, were they? She smiled and shook her head. That was fine, she would just show them up later on. Maybe bake some cookies for the whole event. Suddenly, she was going over why she was laying here on this rock.
She was hoping for some company, really. Maybe some lower level player who wanted to take on the mountain climbing quest. Maybe some higher level that wanted to fight her. She would welcome both of these things. She was dreadfully bored. She rolled over and sat up properly, facing towards the city gates to watch everyone bustle about. The players were starting to realise just what it meant to be in this game, and they were beginning to move. She was hoping to find one of the ones she could help carve into a great player down the road. She'd already found a few of those people. She yawned and pulled her mace out, twirling it around in one hand, pondering what the first boss would be like. Kaito Quest

Reaching New Heights There was so much to do in Aincrad that it was almost overwhelming to see players who weren’t actively engaged in some form of quest or training related task. The energy of the player base had shifted so drastically over the past few weeks that she couldn’t quite fathom this was a death trap. It just felt like a group of people…trying to beat a game. Kaito had done her best to figure out the interface and unspoken rules of the game’s systems, but with the element of forced socialization she hadn’t really gotten much further than wandering around and delivering some bread.
Kaito had decided to spend her day just enjoying the nature, and letting the day take her wherever it so chose. Her feet had brought her to the wild lands, and her eyes were immediately drawn to… an NPC? lazing around on a rock. But, as the character moved, Kaito saw the distinct green cursor over her head. Another player? Well, that’s…not what I would’ve expected. Kaito had heard rumors in town of an elder woman playing this game who was quite strong, but like the log-out button she’d assumed it was just a rumor.
“Hello?” Kaito greeted her, tilting her head to the side as she waved at the older woman. “That’s a….um, intimidating stick you’ve got there?”

Gran was considering taking a nap in the warm glow of the sunlight that was shining on her. The feeling might have been programmed to make her bones warm up, but she was not complaining about simple pleasantries. Right as she went to close her eyes, however, she noticed a girl looking her way. The girl looked confused at first, and then intrigued. Gran smiled as the other walked towards her. She scooted forward a little bit and let her little legs dangle off the edge of the boulder as she looked down at the girl. She nodded and then laughed.
"Intimidating stick, huh?" Gran held out her mace and spun it a bit, chortling away, "And here I thought you were gonna talk to me for my wrinkles."
She smiled warmly at the girl and hopped off the rock, landing on the ground in a smooth motion. She stretched her arms in the air as the cloud of dust began to dissipate from her landing and she gave the girl a wink, "Would you care to escort an old lady up this mountain, dear? I could use the company." Kaito

Reaching New Heights Kaito was surprised at how nimble this player was. I guess that is part of the effect of the NerveGear, she thought, that it doesn’t translate physical ability into the game… It would make this much harder for even me.
“I wouldn’t speak to you just based on your appearance… that seems a little rude, don’t you think?” Kaito asked her. “I suppose others could say you look out of place.. but, I don’t think so. I’ve seen more startling things that were part of this game than an older lady in a field.” She laughed lightly.
Kaito stared up at the mountain in the wild lands. Well, you did commit to exploring nature today, she reminded herself.
“I’m not sure how useful I would be hiking up the mountain, but, I would love to accompany you." Kaito offered her a hand. "The more the merrier, you know?”

Gran chortled alongside the girl, twirling her cane-mace a bit. She flipped it upside-down so that the handle face the ground. Placing one hand on the smooth and round tip of it, she stuck the handle into the ground. For all purposes, it looked as if she had a real cane that most grandmothers would have. She gave the girl a wink and shrugged lightly, "Well, see, I've been told time and time again that it's my wrinkles that give me away as being old. Trust me, I know it's not my appearance that makes you speak to me. If that were the case, my appearance probably would've driven you away."
She started walking over to the NPC that liked to walk between her boulder and the city gates. He was currently approaching the boulder. She flicked through her menu as she grew near the NPC, sending out a party invite for the girl. After doing that, she pointed at the NPC and launched the quest dialogue. With a yawn, she half listened to the boring, generic speech. She'd heard it before. After it was done, she accepted the quest and turned back to the girl, cane clicking against a pebble on the ground.
"Now then," she started talking as she began walking along the trail that lead to the mountaintop, "let's talk to each other. That's what new friends tend to do, yeah? Talk each others' ears off learning stuff about one another. Defending ourselves against rampaging boars that might spawn on the mountain. Maybe having some tea and cookies afterwards? I don't really know, it's been a couple decades since I last tried to make a friend. I think I might be rusty." Kaito
