I'm a desert without rain Each day that she was trapped in this virtual reality was another day that she lost in the real world. Given all she went through before she dove into this, it was difficult to say whether or not that was a good thing. To lose this world would mean she would lose the ability to walk and even though there was the constant threat of death in this game, she wasn’t sure that she wanted to lose that. SAO had meant to be her freedom from the life of a cripple…
Sissy shouldn’t have been so morbid given the futility of such thoughts but she couldn’t help it sometimes. She thought of her old life, feeling it slip away as time passed though to be fair, it hadn’t been ‘that’ long since they had been trapped in the game.
Perhaps it was better to enjoy what freedom she had with her legs rather than focusing on losing it or her life. Her decision to leave her room in the Town of Beginnings had been the first step towards growing in this world and she was glad for that one decisive moment. She now found herself seeking out quests in order to gain col, experience, and perhaps even an item here or there. She needed to get better stats if she wanted to not only survive this game but also thrive.
Sis had heard of a quest that involved climbing a mountain, it sounded difficult but it was labelled a lower level quest which meant it would suit her well enough. She found the NPC that gave the quest, watching as a few other players gathered to get the same quest. Was this a solo type of quest? She considered doing it on her own…
It was a class F quest but it could still be dangerous. She needed to be cautious until she was stronger so maybe she could find someone to help her scale the mountain and take out anything that might come at them. With her hand on the hilt of her sword, something that was slowly becoming second-nature, she would seek out someone to join her on the quest. She wasn’t afraid to ask someone for help.

- Yami - SISSY -
Yami approached the large mountain, looming over the surrounding plains. He had heard of a relatively easy quest, one that simply required climbing to the top of said mountain, with a possibility of some kind of items at the top. And items meant either a helpful piece of gear or col from selling it, both of which appealed to Yami at this point in the game, seeing as what he currently had was rather useless. Reaching the base, he swung by the Npc offering the quest and accepted, before starting towards his path.
As he walked he noticed a girl looking around, seemingly looking for someone, possibly to help her on the quest. It didn't seem that dangerous of a quest, but it was also smarter to be safe no matter what, considering the consequences of slipping up. He approached her, before getting her attention with his hand lightly tapping her shoulder. "Hey, I was wondering if you'd want to come up with me. It would be nice to have some company, as well as someone to watch my back."

I'm a desert without rainWas it weak for her to seek out others for company? She did often wonder if perhaps she should try solo’ing more once she boosted her stats to some degree but that didn’t really suit her personality. She was a social creature, especially in a place like this where she was not judged on her physical handicaps, she didn’t have physical handicaps in SAO. There were dangers in running solo just as there were dangers in joining with others, at least with other people she got to talk with them.
Vysin had been her first party member when she joined up, he had gotten her through more than a few panic attacks when the announcement had been made and he had urged her to fight. They had never met before SAO and yet they became close, even in those few short days before…
Her thoughts might have turned to that rather bleak subject had it not been for someone reaching over and tapping her on the shoulder. She blinked as she looked up at the young man who had roused her from her thought and she almost wanted to thank him for it. “You have impeccable timing.” She commented with a smile though looking at it now, saying that was rather silly.
He asked her to accompany him up the mountain, obviously someone else who believed in safety in numbers. “Sure.” She would open her menu and send him a party invite, hoping that she wasn’t overly eager in accepting. “I’m still on the lower end of the levels but I’m sure the two of us will be able to handle this.” She offered him a grin. “I’m Sissy, I know I can see your name and all but it feels weird not introducing myself.”

Yami listened as she said something about impeccable timing, and figured that she had actually been about to leave or something. He was happy to see her smile and send him a party request, which he promptly accepted before listening to her introduce herself, which seemed strange considering that the game allowed him to see it anyway, but it was probably just trying to be as normal as possible. Might as well make her comfortable. "Well nice to meet you Sissy. My name is Yami, as you have probably realised by now. Have you already accepted the quest? Don't want to miss any rewards after all." He waited for her response before turning back to the mountain, judging the distance and how fast they could probably move. It would take a while, but was definitely doable without too much hassle, as long as nothing happened on the way.
"So, whenever you are ready, let's go. Looks like there'll be one he'll of a view up there." He checked his equipment, making sure everything was ready, before waiting for Sissy to let him know. He couldn't wait to see what items was at the top.

I'm a desert without rainSissy had a habit, whether it developed in game or not she didn’t know, of speaking her thoughts aloud even when she shouldn’t. Thankfully she hadn’t said anything embarrassing and the man who had asked her to join him hadn’t said anything about it either, so she could move on from that particular silliness. One quirk she had yet to grow out of was introducing herself but damnit she was going to stick with it, manners mattered after all!
Yami humoured the girl and introduced himself as well, a gesture that she appreciated since really he could have just rolled his eyes at her and walked away. It wouldn’t be the first time her sunny disposition and little quirks annoyed a person enough to make them walk away but that was their loss in the long run, she was lovely. Well, she thought so anyway. “Oh yes, I accepted the quest. I need as many rewards as I can get if I’m going to get anywhere in this game.”
This seemed like a simple enough quest but she didn’t actually know what it entailed. Was there monsters on the way there? NPCs?
Yami was quite a friendly player and she had no reason to think that she might be silly to not trust him. Player killing wasn’t a thing and as far as she could see, she had nothing that would make anyone want to target her. That being said, she might just be too naïve for a game like this. Either way, she was quite happy to have a travelling companion. “Off we go!”
She would let Yami lead the way if he liked, keeping a hand on the hilt of her sword at all times in case a monster appeared. “Do you think there will be any combat in this quest?”

- Yami - SISSY -
Yami listened to her confirm that she accepted the quest. He found it a little funny that people still called it a game, even though it was now reality until they could beat it. Well, she thought so anyway. Just a way of dealing with things, he guessed, and who was he to judge after all. As long as people weren't just killing themselves, which he knew had been happening.
They set off as Sissy let him know she was ready. Yami took the lead, walking a little bit in front of the girl, but not far enough to leave her behind or anything. Even though Kayaba had trapped them in the world, Yami had to admit that the game was done extremely well, almost looking exactly like the real world. Take away the threat of death, and it would be almost enjoyable.
"I'm not sure, the description didn't mention any danger, and it's not a mob farming quest or anything, but this place is pretty unpredictable. Best to keep watching just in case." He tightened his grip on the sword as he said that. He felt anger flare up momentarily, but shoved it back down. Better to save it for the monsters later. Although, if he could find Kayaba that would be a more appropriate target. Nobody had heard from him since his announcement, but Yami couldn't shake the feeling that he was still watching them play his sick game, uncaring as to the deaths he had caused.
"So what brought you to this mountain? We're you here for the quest, or just in the area?" Hopefully a little conversation would make the trip go faster, and take his mind off of things.

I'm a desert without rainWas it still a game or was it more just because of the ‘death’ aspect? Sissy knew that it was no mere game and yet she couldn’t bring herself to accept it as anything other than it, believing it to be reality felt like giving up on ever escape and she couldn’t do that. Either way, she would call it a game until convinced otherwise, it helped her cope with what had happened. This quest was supposed to be simple enough but she played games enough to know that sometimes the simplest tasks had the strangest twists to them and she’d sooner be prepared for whatever may come their way.
They set off towards the mountain at the center of this floor. She was sure that plenty of other people were doing the same since it was such a low level quest, people were desperate to level up in order to survive. Hiding away in the Town of Beginnings could only last for so long and if Sissy was honest with herself, she regretted making that choice after her friend’s death. She should have fought harder rather than cower in fear and grief. She would honour his memory by living on, he would have wanted it that way. Walking slightly behind Yami, Sissy had a bounce in her step as she took in the beauty of the world around them. She’d hold on to this as long as she could, whether she died in the game or made it back to the real world, she would miss this.
“True enough, best to be on your guard in this place.” One misstep and that was it. It was strange, while Sissy felt sad about those who lost their lives in this death game, she never felt anger towards the one who did it. Perhaps she should but she never gave him much thought. “Odd how menial these sorts of quests are. Climb a mountain and take in the scenery, not the most inspired.” Still, she couldn’t complain. “But if it gives experience and maybe an item, why not?” She was mostly talking aloud rather than following a conversation vein, she did it from time to time, a habit from spending so much time on her own.
His question caused her to slip back into talking with someone other than herself and she offered a shrug and a smile. “Mainly the quest, I’ve never been one for heights. I’m sure the view will be nice enough.” She hoped the mountain would come into view soon enough. “And you? Have you completed many quests yet?”

- Yami - SISSY -
As they walked, Yami listened to Sissy talk, before answering her question to him. "I'm here for the quest. I plan on joining the front lines in the labyrinth soon, but for that I will need to be strong and have better equipment. I heard there would be an item, and figured that it would be worth a shot." He stopped talking as he looked around for a moment. He wasn't paranoid, not like a lot of people were now, but he liked to be cautious. If Katana could turn this game into some sort of lethal nightmare, there were sure to be surprises along the way.
"I've done a few quests, mostly a lower level than this one. It's a good way to meet people, as well as get money and experience. Better than grinding at least." Although, as he looked back, none of the people he met he had seen again, and he hadn't put them on his friends list, so maybe it wasn't the best way. Not that he really cared about friends that much, he had planned on running solo when it was just a game and that probably wasn't going to change much now that it was more.
He continued to lead the way, through what wasn't exactly a path, but more like a partially cleared track up the mountain. He couldn't wait to actually be able to go into the labyrinth. Maybe he would be the one to find the boss room. "So what are your plans? You going to fight on the front lines? I'm sure they could use as many people as they can get."

I'm a desert without rainSometimes it was conversation that made quests better, kept her from losing herself in her own head and kept her focused. Not only that but it allowed her to get to know other players which was important, especially as she was still coming to terms fully with everything that had happened so far. She wanted to be stronger and join the front lines, she knew it would be hard and incredibly dangerous but damnit, she wanted to do it just the same. She didn’t want to be poor pitiful little Sissy who hid behind others. She wanted to be a protector and warrior.
“Aren’t you afraid?” She almost regretted askin such a question, almost seemed too personal. The labyrinth scared her, she wished it didn’t but it did just the same. “I want to go to the labyrinth but it scares me, too many unknown variables.” She was too weak for it at the moment. She needed better equipment.
“I don’t mind grinding in most games though its hard here. Too many players trying like crazy to level up.” Grinding was a natural game mechanic and could either be fun or just really annoying depending on how one did it. Here, it involved killing pigs a lot and just trying to survive. “I’ve met a few people so far but it’s kind of hard. Maybe it’s still the shock of what’s happened but I’ve found it hard to integrate with people.” Maybe it was just because some people came into the game with others and thus formed their own close-knit groups or maybe she just lacked in social skills. Either way, she had a habit of feeling like an outsider whether she liked it or not.
Her plans? “My main plans are to survive.” She offered a slight chuckle, knowing that was rather obvious and shrugged. “I want to join the front lines but that isn’t going to happen for a while, if ever.”
The pair managed to reach the mountain after what felt like ages of walking. It was pleasant enough of a walk, a chill in the simulated air and Sis couldn’t help but stand in awe at the massive mountain above them. “Good thing we can’t feel pain or my feet would be killing me.” The idea of her feet hurting was more amusing than it should have been in a rather morbid way given her inability to feel below her waist.

So she was another one in the same spot as him, wanting to join the fight but not properly able to yet. It was hard to blame her for not trying, he knew how hard it was to get anywhere, especially seeing as it wasn't like other games where if you died you just lost a bit of experience or money. Taking risks was so much more...risky.
They reached the mountain a little while after, having not really spoken much. He noticed her talk about the lack of pain in the game, and didn't feel like correcting her and saying that there was pain, just on a lower level than real life. It was the same thing as being able to feel the temperature if it was hot or cold enough. What he did worry about was the fact that she thought that walk had been a long one that would have her feet hurt.
"Well, we made it halfway. Although I believe that was the easy part. Come on then." He started up the slope, noting that it wasn't quite enough to be difficult but was a rather decent ascent. It might even take a bit less time to reach the top than he originally though. Template by Ocean on THQ
