Cut like diamonds There were more than a few shops around the Town of Beginnings, many that were run by NPCs but amusingly enough, many players took up crafting as a trade and some were actually quite skilled. If there was one thing that Sissy was well aware of, it was that she wouldn’t be getting anywhere without the right kind of equipment and that meant she needed something better than the weapon she currently carried. She had been tempted to go to one of the NPCs but it was easier dealing with a player, they would be easier to haggle with and plus they brought a flair to the trade that NPCs couldn’t replicate.
It was Ruler’s little mat stall that Sissy found her way into, her excuse being that it was the first player-owned 'shop' that she had managed to find. That being said, she had heard his name around the grapevine in regards to craftsmanship so why not? She had earned a bit of col here and there so if there was ever a time to order a weapon, it was now. She wanted to be able to handle harder missions; she needed better item drops and more experience. She needed to be stronger.
She had to think on what exactly she wanted. She wasn’t entirely sure whether she wanted to stick with a one-handed sword or if she wanted two handed. One-handed meant more dexterity but less damage while two handed was vice versa.
When Sissy managed to find the owner of the stall, she would offer him a smile as she did with most people she engaged in conversation. “I heard that you were pretty good at crafting. I am in need of a new weapon and I’m hoping you’re the man for the job.” What did she want? “If you’re not too busy, I mean. I’m sure you get a lot of commissions.”

It had been a lazy day, almost criminally so. Ruler had woken up that morning, dragging himself out of bed and out into the streets to follow a routine. It was his last day in the Town of Beginnings. The last morning. He'd considered that while eating his breakfast, which always left him wanting for more. It just wasn't as good as the other side breakfast he was used to; the people in Aincrad ate more to satisfy a hunger rating than to enjoy it, he figured. His shop, a simple spread carpet with a small sign and portable furnace, had been low on customers lately. Most people already had weapons, or went to one of the competitors. Ruler was still pretty sure he was doing pretty well for himself, and his stuff was better than most, but... Maybe he was just doing something wrong? He looked up from his thoughts when a girl approached him. Hair, white as snow. Either dye, or she was fast becoming an old lady. "Um... I'm free for commissions. For now, anyway." Though of late he was starting to dread commissions. Finding novel ways to make a blade had gone from exciting to annoying. "What're you looking for? One-handed sword, two-handed mace, spear?" made by: n/a from link-start

Cut like diamondsWas it a sign, as she found the weapon stall, that no one was there aside from her? Did this mean that perhaps she had chosen the wrong blacksmith to make her sword and should go elsewhere or was it merely a slow business day? Hard to tell really but she was here, might as well go through with it. She had enough col for hopefully something decent and after careful consideration, she decided just how she wanted to work her weaponry strategy. Two swords to be carried with her at all times, a one-handed and two-handed weapon set that would allow her to hopefully focus on becoming a situational swordswoman. It might work or it could blow up in her face, only one way to find out.
Playing video games helped her in a lot of ways and yet SAO was different than what she was used to. She understood the roleplay dynamics behind such games as well as the combat to an extent but the amount of immersion had initially thrown her off. While it was a death game, it was still something to be in awe of. The creator, however mad he might have been, was still to be considered a genius for the world and system he had created. He gave sight to those who hadn’t been able to see, hearing to the death, and mobility to those who lacked it in their real life. A shame he had to muddy those accomplishments with his god complex.
Sis got his attention and made her request known. It was a relief that he was able to do it though how long would it take and even more importantly, how much would it cost her? “I was thinking of perhaps a two-handed sword with a guard around the hilt. I don’t know a lot about swords and I don’t even need it to be ornate, just strong.”

She spoke with all the expertise of a swords leek. Ruler had encountered them ten times over, and if it hadn't been for his swift crash course into the world of swords he'd be just as ignorant. Still, he perked up at the request. It sounded simple enough, and it meant he could just put one of the standardised designs he'd dreamed up to use. "A two-handed sword, huh! Well, um... I think it's important to note the strength requirement." He gestured, then turned the menu to the girl. "See? Two-handed swords require a steep strength investment, so depending on how high your strength is right now... I can't recommend a high-level craft." Much as he wanted to. If he was more economically minded, he'd have sold her a D-Rank two-handed sword easily, and then not bothered when she'd die somewhere in the fields after realising she could not actually use the sword. But Ruler wasn't economically minded, and he rather saw people survive his weaponry than the other way around. "So what rank were you thinking of?" He held up a hand and listed them off. From F-Rank weapons, which had paltry combat stats but also low requirements, to D-Rank swords, which demanded a hefty stat investment but paid back for it with strength almost eight times as much. made by: n/a from link-start

Cut like diamondsPerhaps Sissy should have done her research more before she came to buy a weapon, she was still learning the rules with a lot of things but in her desperation to get stronger and be able to handle herself, she messed up.
She was of the mind that if she wanted to get stronger, she needed a powerful sword which meant a higher class weapon but unfortunately she didn’t take into account the requirements for certain types of weapons. It made sense, if she had stopped to think about it but she hadn’t and she was paying for it via being told how ignorant she was.
At least Ruler was gentle enough about it. He could have been a salesman above all else and sold her the weapon, he didn’t have to tell her about the pre-requisites needed to equip a weapon but he did and for that he earned her respect.
She felt quite silly and if it was possible to blush, she did in the darkest of shades. “Oh…” She had been dead-set on one thing but it was apparent that she wasn’t going to get it, not now anyway. “I’m such a noob, I should have looked into this beforehand.” She brushed her hair from her face, a nervous habit.
What was she going to get instead? She didn’t want to leave without some kind of weapon but what would best suit her? “Well, I can’t handle D-rank for the moment, as much as I’d like to. I want to stick with swords because that is my proficiency.” She thought hard, scratching her head before shrugging. “What would you suggest? You know what you’re doing and are pretty up-front. What do you think would be the best investment?”

SISSY ; *ruler was trying to say 'Thematics' in English, but gave up and substituted Japanese instead. | | HP: 375/375 | STR: 0 (+39) | DEX: 5 (+12) | DMG: +33 |
They'd all been there: Ruler was reminded of his own choice for Kite Shields, which had turned out to be a headlong rush into impossibility. Making up all the stats he needed just to use one was going to be hellish, and he'd decided to branch out instead. "Hnn... well, I usually recommend just going with a one-handed sword." He hadn't even seen any use for weapons other than that yet. Spears and maces seemed to be matters of preference. "You can use it 'till you reach a stage where you can wield your favourite weapon instead. I think the damage is worth swallowing sem... semati... shati... thematics* for!" There'd been at least one guy who'd insisted on a dagger because it complemented his build, but... well, there was no way anyone'd have worked up the Dex requirement for it yet. Ruler hoped the guy was still alive. He made a mental note to check the Monument of Life later. made by: n/a from link-start

Cut like diamondsWhile it seemed harmless, ignorance in this place could mean death. She needed to get better acquainted with all aspects of Sword Art Online, including the dynamics of equipping weaponry that she was capable of using. She wanted to skip ahead to where she was capable of handling a two-handed sword without consider what prerequisites there were and she felt silly for it. Still, Ruler was nice enough to point out her mistake rather than taking advantage and she was grateful for his kindness. She would have to switch up her gameplan for the time being though she was still determined to become a power-player with an awesome two-hander. Just meant she had something to work towards.
One-handed sword was pretty generic but it worked. She nodded, considering what she would need for it. “I suppose. It is a good balanced weapon to start out with.” She felt kind of disappointed and wasn’t the best at hiding it either but what could she do? “I just need to survive long enough to actually use a two-hander.” Her laugh was equal parts humor and despair, very strange really. She didn’t have the most confidence in herself but she wasn’t about to put that on the poor lad who was helping her out.
Think positive!
“Right! A one-handed sword then. I’m kind of tempted by a class E sword.” She could look up the prerequsites for that but it shouldn’t be too harsh. Buying a low end sword and then levelling up past it seemed like a waste of col. “Would that be alright?” It was kind of obvious that she wasn’t used to buying things from anyone and didn’t want to be a pest.

SISSY; So I suppose I won't be creating a 2H D-Rank anymore? :P | | HP: 375/375 | STR: 0 (+39) | DEX: 5 (+12) | DMG: +33 |
Ruler frowned when his customer had a fit of laughter, but it was hardly his place to comment on it. Different people and different strokes, but he guessed she was laughing at herself over almost accidentally buying a mostly useless weapon. He scratched his head at the next request. "You sure? A D-rank sword's stronger and not that much more expensive." He resisted the urge to offer it at the same price as an E-Rank sword. That'd cut into his own funds! "I mean, if you're set on a lower rank weapon that's fine, but everyone can wield D-Rank One-handed Swords." The difference was large: nearly double damage of what the other could do! Well, provided you were lucky enough that the craft went well and received a favourable result. "It's your choice of course, but I'd recommend D-Rank if you have the money for it. There's nothing like 'too strong' in Aincrad!" He almost felt like a genuine salesman, though the idea made him feel embarrassed. What'd his parents say, if Never Stand Out Ii Souta suddenly changed into a boisterous salesman? made by: n/a from link-start

Cut like diamondsThe dynamics behind equipping weaponry was something that was covered in the user manual created by the beta players, a book she had and yet she had to admit that she hadn’t read it as well as she should have. Sissy had believed that she would never fight, hiding in the Town of Beginnings thus no need to learn about weapons. She’d have to go over the user manual once again.
Taking note of Ruler’s frown, she once again felt embarrassed at how she handled the situation and felt her cheeks burn. “Sorry.” She felt like she was wasting his time and that was not ideal, she didn’t want him blacklisting her and telling other player-smiths to avoid her. She was paranoid, she couldn’t help it. “I guess I’m still on the learning curve. I didn’t learn the weapon prerequisites before I decided on a weapon, as you obviously are aware of.” Maybe she should just leave?
Anyone could wield a D-rank? That was what she wanted. “Oh. I thought D-rank needed higher stats regardless of the weapon.” She really wasn’t doing well, was she? “I think I have enough col for a D-rank sword and if I’m able to wield it even at my level than I would definitely like a D-rank.” She felt silly as her noobish nature was shining through, she could only imagine what Ruler thought of her. “Thanks for being so patient with me.” He hadn’t told her to feck off yet so that was a plus.
She needed to be decisive so she stopped confusing the poor smith who likely wished she had never stopped by. “Right. I will take a D-rank one-handed long sword. The design of it is entirely up to you though I cannot deny I wouldn’t mind something pretty.” No glitter of course but she did like some of the more elaborate types of blades.

Ruler noticed her furtive glances around. Was she nervous? Why? He was being a perfect gentleman, wasn't he? Well, girls tended to be weird, so maybe it was that, but... he felt like he'd somehow done something wrong to make her so ill at ease. Maybe he'd overdone it with the talk of requirements. He bit his lips when she affirmed she still wanted a sword. At the D-Rank, no less! That was partially good for profit, but Ruler wanted to think his prime motivation was equipping her as best as he could. He hadn't scared her off after all. "Guarantee you can use it. If not, I'll give you back twice your col." A 'design up to him'. A simple thing, then. "Really, you shouldn't beat yourself up over it, though... We've all made mistakes at some point. Probably will keep on making them, so..." Man, he sounded like an old fogey. "An, anyway! A simple D-Rank sword. I'll make ya one of those." made by: n/a from link-start
