we have the force to fight! we have the blinding light! we have the will to win! forever, we'll defend -
If you die in the game, you die in real life.
You die in the game, you die in real life.
It wasn't possible - didn't seem possible at all, in fact. It was... sickening. Terrifying. Everything, except what it really should have been - a practical joke. And you could say, it really put things into perspective for Theta - for Reveka, actually, considering it was entirely out of the scope of Theta's experience. Theta knew the world she called home. She knew where she belonged, she knew her duty, she knew fighting for what was right. She didn't understand the concept of being 'trapped', since this was the only world she knew. She also didn't understand the concept of never being able to 'log out'. And a dark knight like her was unbothered by a concept of never being able to see your friends or family again - she had long since abandoned such things in her quest beforehand, so why was everyone upset now? Theta was bulletproof, strong... but only by way of ignorance.
And Reveka knew too well what the consequences of what that man cloaked in red said.
You're trapped here. And if you die, that's it.
So what was Reveka to do? She paced. She agonized. In private, she cried frustrated tears - because there was nothing she could do, because all she knew how to do was to pretend there was nothing wrong. And you could say she isolated herself for some time as a result - a fact that would have embarrassed Theta, though to Reveka there was hardly any contest on what to do. What Reveka didn't expect to see, hear, or ever do again... was run into one of her friends from before the game became twisted, from before she could waste hours at a time attempting to log out to no avail. It was an easy assumption to make; while Reveka's own real life counterpart wasn't much different from her in-game one (she was definitely taller now...) many others had a far more drastic change.
But there she was. Someone that looked strikingly like her Theta's princess, even though they had been separated when the hammer fell. Reveka hesitated, watching the other woman for an idle moment. Reveka bit her lip. But finally, she approached; Theta approached, placing a hand upon her chest. "My lady," She greeted, softly - Reveka tried to look relieved, though she knew she looked closer to pained. "You're safe..." For now. But... what now?

Ano sighed, her fingers awkwardly intertwining with one another as she bit back a shuddering sigh which threatened to buckle her knees. She still wasn't sure what she was supposed to do, what she could even do, and had so far spent all of that time agonizing over everything she had left behind. Her parents, her friends, her dreams and aspirations had all been surmounted by an endless digital plane which threatened to swallow her whole. The initial panic had settled into a sort of apathy which settled dully in her chest, a foreboding and heavy handed sense of morbid calm which engulfed her in dread and a beating dull terror which clawed at the peripherals of her thoughts. There was so much that swirled in her mind, and she knew that settling and clinging to these fears only served to make her more miserable- but there was little she could do as she stared out over the valley in soaked in the views. It was immense, and what had once struck her with beauty, now filled her heart with malaise that threatened to drag her down.
If you do in the game, you die in real life.
The concept of mortality still seemed so odd to her, hardly more than a far off specter which sat aloft in the air about her. But it felt so much more real here than it did in the real world. Naturally, the stakes in real life had always been the same, you die- you die, the idea that such a thing would extend to this new reality should not be so terrifying to her, it should not feel so real as it did these last few days. But she could not shake the ice cold fingers which worked down her spine as she considered it once more, the young woman shuddering and hugging her shoulders tightly as a choked sound ran from her throat. She had fought back the tears for hours, but staring out into the abyss only served for reigniting her frustrations, the feelings of being cut adrift and being so lonely crashed against her once more, seizing her heart as she clamped her eyes shut and fought back the hot stinging sensation of tears and ignited sinuses.
And then she heard the voices, the 'lady' quickly turning about, her hands clutched one over the other above her chest as she cringed and blinked away dagger like tears. "A-Ah?" She starts in an unlady like fashion, her eyes finally falling on someone she recognized. The poor girl would cough, caught off guard as a wave of conflicted emotion broke against the rocks and she was forced to steady herself in a moment. Pixy looked marginally different than her avatar, the ashen hair and muted palette now marked with bright highlights of color which contrasted her pale skin. Her eyes were a beautiful green, flecked with blue which sparkled as tears pooled in their edges- which only accentuated her golden hair all the more. Truly, she looked nearly the same, with just a dash of youthfulness in place of the calm superior air she had put on under her guise as a princess.
"Theta?" The "Princess" starts, the edges of her eyes puffy and red from her tears, the girl showing off more emotion and sadness than she had ever shared with her friend before. Once upon a time, she had been bulletproof, an impeccable scion of grace and serenity that could not be marred- but now she was laid bare before the one friend she had in this twisted world. Exposed, vulnerable, and unable to find her words as the shock rendered her unable to lapse into character.
"And... So are you." Her voice cracked, joy mixed with the tension and stress of the whole situation as she tried to steady herself. She was still on the verge of tears, and it seemed very likely that she was not taking this nearly as well as Reveka.
What now indeed?

we have the force to fight! we have the blinding light! we have the will to win! forever, we'll defend -
Reveka was afraid that she had the wrong person. Pixy was in her friend's list, but still - there was a terrible moment of anxiety before the shorter woman turned, eyes wide, surprised, and recognized her friend. Or, at least, Reveka sure thought they were friends. Theta was dedicated to Pixy, but here they were, and things were different. They hadn't spoken honestly to each other. Quite frankly, they didn't even know each other - they just knew their avatars. A princess, and a knight. There was nothing binding them together except for that playful lie - and the joy of creating a story together, of having characters that worked with each other. Would Pixy still want anything to do with Theta, or Reveka for that matter? Where were they to go from here? But as those anxieties settled in her chest, there was something else that she noticed.
Pixy was on the verge of tears.
Her voice sounded so... delicate. Like glass, really, and Reveka wanted to cringe, Reveka wanted to shrink away. There was that small, selfish part of her - the part that wanted to run instead of face someone else's emotions - because if Pixy was upset, then it was even more real, it wasn't just some strange hallucination Reveka thought of, it was absolutely, implacably, awfully real. And then... then what? Where to go from there? But more importantly, Reveka... had to do something. Because it was Pixy. Because she knew, Theta wouldn't want her princess to cry. Because out of all of the people that she had met, well, Pixy understood the most - even if they didn't know each other's real names, even if they weren't 'themselves' around each other, the story that they wanted to write together... it meant something, didn't it? The time they spent together meant something, didn't it? It had to. It really did have to.
Reveka - no, Theta pressed both of her hands against her chest, gaze softening and turning into a warm smile - trying to assure Pixy, hoping to god this would assure her, because there was nothing else Reveka could think to do - "My princess, you needn't worry about me," she spoke, and then, she gathered herself - gathered herself for the biggest, most convincing lie she could make in this situation. "Don't look so down, your highness... things will be alright," Theta said, dropping her hands now, stepping closer, and wrapping the smaller girl in a warm hug. Because that was all she could do, really - all she could think to do. "I'll protect you. I promise,"
She said it with conviction. Like she believed it.
She really, really wanted to believe it.

An- Pixy wanted to turn away from that smile, wanted to fight the welling emotions in her chest once more as she wavered on the edge of oblivion. The words were calming in their own right, but the poor girl was let adrift on even more conflicting emotions as she bit hard on her lip and tried to piece together the labyrinth before her. She was still being called a princess, still being called your highness when she felt like anything but- that the veneer of the character she had made had been stripped from her. She wasn't a serene princess or lady who lived to stand high above others- she was a scared, terrified girl who could not find a place into a new world which she was cruely thrust into. Indeed, she had no bastion to tie herself, the idea of continuing her facade was alien and untenable, something so far off that she could even begin to consider cloaking her feelings in the mask of another person entirely. And for someone to continue to project that illusion of comfort on to her? It was simultaneously terrifying and almost illicitly tantalizing as her tongue turned to stone in her mouth and her heart clenched up sharply.
But then she was pulled into the hug, the smaller girl desperately pulling her hands up to grasp at Theta as she let out a harrowing sob which sent a long shudder through her small body. She seemed so fragile in this moment, a far cry from the decadent and imposing Princess who had once declared Theta her knight. She was like a broken bird, listless and scared that could do little more than shudder as she buried her face against the other woman. She did not know what to say as hot tears ran from her eyes, her cheeks flushed a bright red as she tried to find the words, tried to make the decision that tore apart her stomach with deep seated anxieties.
"W-what am I- What are we going to do?" She mumbled, her voice cracking as her fingers curled and a wave of nausea hit her. She felt like a child, left adrift and choking on her spittle as she uselessly clawed at the great wall of fate. "Theta, how am I going to go on?" The girl asks uselessly, the irony of the moment totally flying over her head as she fails to realize she really don't know the person she is clinging to like a life preserver. That they never once shared one anothers name, that they were totally foreign to one another, that they had no idea who the other was outside of some cliche facade they created as roleplayers.
But... She trusted her, she trusted her so deeply in this moment that she let herself hold on to her tightly and cry and cry and cry.
"This is- so unseemly of me." She would start, her voice weak and hardly over a whisper as she sobbed pitifully. "Just... One moment please" She sounded almost like her old self, just the tiniest glimmer of that suave and velvety voice to break through her distraught air. Though, she seems far less convinced of anything at this moment than Reveka had presented. It seems that one of them had weathered the storm, while the other was still beat by the waves.

we have the force to fight! we have the blinding light! we have the will to win! forever, we'll defend -
Theta held onto her princess. And Theta was stalwart. Reliable. She didn't mind being cried upon, and gently patting the other woman's back was second nature - not terrifying, not painfully awkward. Theta wasn't floundering, secretly panicking, wondering what to do or say. She was confident, self-assured. She wasn't super keen with people, but she knew how to protect, at the very least. She knew she wanted to protect her princess. And that was all Theta needed. The world didn't scare her. Death didn't scare the knight. Just ensuring that Pixy was safe and happy... that was more than good enough.
It may have been a different story for Reveka. But did that matter? It didn't matter.
"It's alright, your highness," Theta said softly, shifting slightly in the hug to pat Pixy's hair instead. "...You don't need to be strong all of the time. That is my duty," She continued, resignedly, placing her cheek upon the shorter woman's head as well - unable to resist, really. "We'll... figure it out," Reveka lied. "I swear that I will get you back to your kingdom... so please, don't worry," Reveka didn't know how to begin. Theta didn't know how to begin. As much as they lied, bluffed, everything else - there were nothing but words to comfort them.
And maybe Pixy realized that.
Reveka really hoped that Pixy didn't realize that.
"Things will turn out fine,"
Reveka really could only hope.
