How did he not come across this place before? Farms stood on the path leading up to the farm, resting his iron five pronged spear on his shoulder. It was far different from the farm back home, but it was familiar all the same. Watching the NPCs toil in the fields brought back fond memories of his childhood, a slight temptation to join them in their labor setting in. Of course none of his work would have mattered. They were little more than decorations, after all. With an expression of fondness on his face he continued up the path, eventually approaching the NPC he came here to meet.
Farms heard some time ago that there was a good quest here, something that was definitely worth it for how easy it was. What they neglected to tell him was the objective. The joy faded from his face, replaced with a frown as he listened to the farmer speak. Metal plates clinked together as he crossed his arms, quietly trying to wrap his head around the situation. The quest was simple, kill five frenzied boars. At his current level and with all his equipment it wouldn't be any trouble at all. Yet no matter how much he reminded himself that this was just a game, he still struggled to kill these creatures. Maybe it was because they were specifically pigs, of all things. Eyes turned to the ground as he let out a sigh, putting the memories aside to focus on the task at hand.
An iron plated hand rose to flip up his visor before opening up his menu and throwing up a beacon for the quest. He may not have been able to handle the quest on his own, but if there was someone else there to help him along surely he would be able to finish the quest. Even if they didn't do the work, just having someone there to fight for would be enough to get him in gear. So he stood on the path, leaning back against the wooden fence that surrounded the fields. He could see the boars from where he stood, a number of them roaming the fields a ways out from across the road. Hopefully someone would show up before too much longer.

Close your eyesRank E quests, they were above her pay-grade as it was and yet she couldn’t help but wonder if she would be capable of handling it with help. Sissy was not above asking for help, far from it. She asked for help with quests all the time which meant she was labelled as a bit of a noob from some of the other players which was amusing really. In any other game that she had played before, she was an elite player, especially since she spent so much time playing.
It was weird not being good at a game but SAO was more than a game in so many ways. Panic had long since passed from the once cowardly girl and instead she was starting to enjoy parts of the game. The quest system itself was something she was starting to become more accustomed to.
That being said, she didn’t actually know that this quest was higher than her level until she approached the NPC on the farm. Five frenzied boars…
She remembered how the pigs from before had been, she hadn’t died obviously but she wasn’t high enough of a level to handle the boars on her own. She would have to pass on this particular quest until she had a higher skill set or better equipment, neither of which would be happening anytime soon.
The white-haired young woman was casually strolling from the farm when she saw the beacon for help on a quest. She had never used it herself though she had helped on a few quests before. Was it for the boars? Surely she wouldn’t be the most help given her low stats but she headed in the direction of the beacon to find the person behind it.
When she came across Farmsalot, she offered him a smile and a wave. “I noticed your beacon.” She said as she approached, it was a little obvious but one way to open up a conversation. “I’d like to help but I’m kind of low level. I wouldn’t want to hold you back.”

The iron clad craftsman waited patiently for someone else to approach the NPC, maintaining a bit of a distance so as not to intimidate anyone from approaching. With so many people being paranoid of each other, he doubted that a heavily armored man would be too approachable. Still he kept an eye on the farmer, slowly growing eager for someone to approach and accept the quest. Anyone would do, really. He just couldn't go and face those creatures on his own.
His hopes were raised as a young woman approached the quest giver. She appeared to only have her starter equipment still, though her sword was easily distinguished from the rusty blade they started with. He may not have been able to tell how good of a weapon it was, but he could at least tell this was a player who was ready for some measure of combat. Alas his hopes were dashed as she turned away from the quest without accepting it. He couldn't blame her, really. It was a difficult quest, definitely not something to be taken lightly.
Turning away from the woman he opened up his menu, wondering if maybe he should invite someone to else to the quest. As he cycled through the possible partners, he caught movement out of the corner of his eye. This immediately caught his attention, head jerking as he turned away from the menu and looked to Sissy. Eyes were widened slightly, looking somewhat startled by her at first. "My what?" After taking a moment to process her words he stood up straight, smiling at her with a hint of embarrassment. "Oh, yes. Sorry, the wildlands always put me on edge."
Farms nodded along as the white haired woman spoke, returning to his menu and sending her an invite before even giving a full response. With that he turned his whole body to face her, moving to rest his five pronged spear on his shoulder as he spoke. "That's no problem. The more help you get, the sooner you'll get caught up." He never understood why people turned away people that they thought couldn't contribute. Worst case scenario she would stay behind him and they would both still profit from the quest. No harm in that. After glancing at the party UI in the corner of his screen (assuming she accepted), he would offer her a more reassuring smile. "Just make sure you stay behind me. If one of them starts looking at you funny just let me know and I'll get it off you, alright?"

Close your eyesSword Art Online messed heavily with Sissy’s mind in so many ways. As a gamer, she was used to taking risks, go big or go home was how she had approached them. She couldn’t do SAO like that because one single screw-up on her end would mean the loss of her life, taking big risks just weren’t in the cards but that also meant less rewards as she did the diddly little quests that gave her next to nothing. Grinding was something she loved doing but it was difficult here in SAO, especially since a lot of places were being overrun with people trying to level up. Soon there would be nothing left and then what?
There was a risk in approaching quests that were above her level and yet she couldn’t help it. She had looked at the quest details and deemed it too much for her to complete on her own. So she turned it down, intent on heading back towards the town, it was only because of Farmsalot’s beacon that she veered from her course and headed over to him. He must have been lost in thought because he didn’t seem to notice her standing there at first, either way he would be greeted with a smile. “It’s fine, I know the feeling.” Being out in the open where death was enabled was always harrowing and it would be until their levels grew higher.
Perhaps she shouldn’t have approached him if she didn’t intend on helping but she was a social little white butterfly and couldn’t help it. The man she approached seemed quite capable of handling himself in the quest but still signalled for help? Was he lower level like her or did he just enjoy questing with others? He had a point of course. The more help she got, the better she would get. Thinking of it as a game seemed silly now and yet thinking of it as reality almost felt like giving up, it was confusing to say the least. He sent her an invite despite knowing that she was low level and she couldn’t help but accept, he was so confidant and very friendly. “I have no problem accepting help, I just didn’t want to be a drag on you. The combat system in this ga—in this world is a bit tricky.”
A hand on the hilt of her sword, she actually was feeling excited for the quest. It felt a little less harrowing now that she had someone else who knew what they were doing. “You have my thanks.” She glanced up to see his username and arched a brow. Interesting name though she was hardly one to judge. “I would like to try and fight but there is a good chance that you will see me running from bacon if need be.”

It was always refreshing to see players who didn't let their pride get in the way of accepting help. No one here had anything to prove, so why bother wasting time with the whole solo act? Her choice of words was interesting, stopping herself from referring to this place as a game, instead referring to it as a world. It was good to see things in such a way, as it made the threats seem all the more legitimate. Though he would always worry that some people may find themselves getting lost in it. "It takes a lot of getting used to. But I'm sure in time it will become second nature to us." He took no pride in learning how to fight, but it was something that would be necessary for survival.
Eyes followed the movement of her hand as it rested on her simple blade, a faintly fond smile appearing on his face before he turned to make eye contact. "No need to thank me, really. Honestly I don't think I could do this quest without your assistance." Physically it would have been pretty easy with his equipment. But no matter what he did he couldn't find the drive to take these digital lives. Her words brought out a soft laugh as he nodded in response. "I'm glad to hear that. There's no shame in running away when your life is on the line."
Farms gestured toward the open field dotted with boars just across the path, his gaze turning to follow. "Let's get started then. And remember, keep your wits about you." Holding his spear at the ready he began to make his way toward the monsters, his steps growing more cautious as they drew closer to danger. It wouldn't be long before one of them came charging at them. Maybe if one of them made the first move he wouldn't feel so bad attacking.

Close your eyesIn Sword Art Online, solo questing just didn’t seem like a wise way to get through alive. There was talk of some that tried it and if it worked for them, more power to them but Sissy was all too happy to join up with others. It wasn’t about being the best player but rather just trying to survive.
The fact that they were only on the first floors and there was so many after was kind of disheartening. Second nature? She smiled but there was a flicker in her eyes as she considered his words carefully. Did she want it to become second nature? She played video games for the freedom it gave as well as a way to relax but this just wasn’t relaxing…
“I’m not sure if I want it to become second nature, never pictured myself as much of a fighter. Still, I guess that is what may keep me going.” She wouldn’t allow herself to get morbid, she doubted that the friendly figure in front of her wanted to hear her despairing. She wasn’t the only one trapped after all, other people handled it better and other people handled it worse. She didn’t know what Farmsalot’s feelings were on the situation but he seemed to be making the best of it. “Farmsalot? I think I’ve heard your username before. Do you do crafting?” Not that she was asking for him to make something but she was curious.
He was far too kind, stating that he couldn’t do it without her assistance and she had to wonder how much of that was truth and how much was total bullshit. “You’re a terrible liar.” She teased with a grin. It was nice to find some people who didn’t make her feel like an outsider. “I’m almost surprised that the starting creatures to kill is pigs rather than the usual rats and wolves.” She rest her hand on her sword hilt as she followed Farmsalot.
While she was convinced that Farms could handle himself, it was herself that she was more worried about. She was only level two and though she had a sword that was slightly better than her starter sword, it was still up in the air what she could handle and how much damage she could deal out at a time. She felt her stomach tighten in a strange sort of sensation, her body tensed and she pulled her sword from the hilt at her side. The boars were intimidating and she stayed close to Farms, she didn’t want to get in his way but she didn’t want to get too far from him either.
One of the boars took notice of the pair and would begin to charge at them. Better now than never and maybe they could take them out one by one together. “I’ll flank him if you take him from the front.” If he agreed, she would shift so that she was away from him as the boar charged. Time to see if she could be a team player.

His eyes widened as she recalled his name, shocked to think that there were people he didn't know who knew of him. As uncomfortable as the thought made him, it did make sense. He was specifically making armor for people who would be helping those in need, so of course they would be asked where they got their armor from. Hopefully they didn't spread word that he was giving out armor at cost or he was going to find himself being swamped by messages before too long. "Yes. That's me."
This woman seemed like a good person, not someone who was running around for the sake of battle. "If you ever need any armor let me know. I always enjoy an excuse to do something other than fight." As much as he felt like work needed to be done, this kind of work was never his cup of tea. He was reminded of this fact as they moved toward the boars, his stomach twisting inside of him as he watched the boar charge at them.
"Right." He nodded in agreement with her plan, holding his position in front of the boar and continuing to meet it's advance. As it drew near he would clench his teeth and thrust his spear forward, piercing the creature before it even had a chance to reach him. It let out a loud squeal as he struck it, immediately sending shivers down Farms' spine. This was exactly the kind of nostalgia he could have done without. Brows furrowed as he pushed himself forward, following up with a wide slash. The creature let out one final cry as the blade passed through it's body before bursting into crystals.
The heavily armored man stood in shock, looking between his spear and where the hog once stood for a moment. Did having a stronger weapon really make this much of a difference?. "I...Wasn't expecting that." Even in what should have felt like a satisfying victory, he just couldn't forget the sounds of that creature dying. Even if it was nothing more than a program, how could he be sure it wasn't created to have some measure of intelligence or uniqueness? He stood silently with his eyes toward the ground, apparently paying little mind to their position in the field of boars.
He stood up straight, looking to Sissy with an uneasy smile. "You know, I wasn't lying before. I already can't stand this quest." It was hard to tell if he was making sense, but the sadness in his voice was certainly clear. It was getting to the point where he was starting to wonder. Could he still call this his convictions, or were this just a weakness that needed to be conquered.
