For the first time since he had started this game, he was feeling worn out. The constant lashings of the plants had brought his HP down further than he had experienced before, and the effects it had on him were enough to plant a seed of fear in him. All of this, no matter how fake it once was, had become just as real as anything else. All he could do was try to keep himself anchored in what he considered to be the real world, drawing on past pains and experiences so that he could stay focused on the task at hand. It would have been easy to let the fear take over, but if determination, there would be nothing left.
Gran's words quickly caught his attention, his gaze quickly turning to see what she was talking about. His jaw stayed clenched, giving only a firm nod in response to her orders. Turning his back to the large plants that had appeared he raced toward the smaller ones, aiming to kill them before they had a chance to recover from Gran's attack. The larger ones didn't seem to interested in letting him go, their vines chasing after him as he bolted off. Fortunately he was fast enough to escape their grasp, the enemies only managing to land a strike rather than their intention to grapple him.
Large Nepent 4 attacked Farmsalot for 30 damage Large Nepent 5 attacked Farmsalot for 30 damage Large Nepent 6 attacked Farmsalot for 30 damage
His expression was unchanging as he continued his charge, as if he didn't even feel the attacks on the back of his armor. He attacked the little nepents as quickly as he could, thrusting his spear through the first one, swinging the blade of his spear through the other one before the first could even burst into crystals.
Farmsalot attacked Little Nepent 1 for 60 damage Farmsalot attacked Little Nepent 2 for 60 damage
With the two of them eliminated he turned his attention back to the large ones, his breaths getting heavier. He didn't even bother looking at his own HP, instead choosing to focus on Gran and the enemies. They could win this. He knew they could. | I DON'T need THE WHOLE PIE, I JUST WANT MY LITTLE SLICE

Gran bolted past Farms as he went to finish off the two Little Nepents. She pursed her lips and felt just an inch of relief as she heard the enemies shattering behind her. She frowned as the Large Nepents still focused on Farms. She wished they had another tank, or at least someone else with them to rush killing these mobs. Then again, if the game spawned in this many enemies because of the two of them, what would happen if they brought another player in to the equation? She made a mental note to test that out later.
She brought her mace down upon the nearest enemy, causing it to let out a shrill cry of terror. She thwacked it again, smiling as it shattered apart. She glanced at the nepents and then over to Farms, a worried look on her face. She hadn't been prepared for anything like this when she had considered taking him out into combat. She was perfectly fine. She'd seen worse in the real world. But she was worried for him.
"Dodge!" she projected her voice louder than before, willing the idea towards Farms, hoping he wasn't on the verge of breaking under pressure. With that command being yelled, she turned back to the Nepents and readied her mace. There were only two now, but she wasn't about to let her guard down.

His expression was blank as he watched the rest of the enemies, even as Gran killed one of them. He was finally starting to see the value in her build. She was the protector of the protectors, killing the enemies before the durable players are whittled down. In effect, they were both working equally to keep the other safe. He would have to express his gratitude for that after this was all over.
He swayed slightly as he planted his feet, readying himself for the next attack. They were still focusing on him, letting out their angry screeches as they looked at him. At least he assumed they were looking at him, considering they didn't have eyes. His only response to Gran's shout was another thumbs up, his upbeat gesture contrasting his empty expression.
This time he was ready for the vines that lashed out at him, using his spear to parry the first blow. The second one attempted to wrap itself around his spear but he quickly yanked it away and took a step back, narrowly avoiding being pulled in. The whole time he stayed focused, making sure his breathing stayed steady and his mind stayed sharp. That was all he would need for them to make it out of here alive. | I DON'T need THE WHOLE PIE, I JUST WANT MY LITTLE SLICE

Gran took in a breath to steady herself and raised her mace. She was starting to get the hang of fighting with Farms. He was good at taking orders and seemed to not break under pressure easily. The two of them continued the fight and came out on top easily. Upon slaying the final nepents, a couple more would spawn and they would destroy those quickly. They were becoming quite the team. After the fighting was all done, Gran would look at Farms and give him a thumbs up.
Looking at the notification on her HUD, Gran smiled and looked over to Farms. She had gotten him into quite the bit of trouble, and she wondered how she could repay him. With a laugh she patted him on the shoulder, "Come on. Let's turn this quest in and get something to eat from the inn, hm? And nice bit of food should cheer us right up, don't you think, sweetie?"
Silently, she wondered just how difficult this game was going to get. If Farms had been any less solid in combat, they most likely would have died. Gran could only imagine what would happen to the players who were even a little less stoic than Farms had been. There was going to be disaster after disaster for those kids who didn't understand what was going to happen to them. It was then that she decided she would go and find as many promising players as she could and take them through hell. They needed to understand that this game really was to the death.
