Breathing in deeply, August let out a massive sigh into the brisk mountain air. She reached her arms upwards to stretch them as she took in the scenery off to the side of the path. A simple walk was all this quest had assigned her; maybe she would have some time to clear her head and take things slow.
As much as she disliked being stuck here, August had to admit that a part of her was finally glad to be able to get out of the crowded city she lived in and actually feel as if there weren’t dust particles perpetually touching her skin.
August had been running around doing more quests now that she was comfortable with the system. She had been a bit slow in understanding how they worked and leaving town, but the more she partnered up with people on them, the more confident she was getting. The last time she had been here, August was able to share a nice conversation with another player. She was hoping the same thing would happen this time as well.
She hadn’t made it very far up the slope; it was difficult to do so when one took so many breaks to look around. The last time, August had been in such a hurry that she didn’t get really admire the detail the developers put into making the mountain. Kicking a small stone by her foot as she walked forward, August kept her eyes and ears peeled for any sign of another player. It would probably do her well to hope they weren’t hostile either, but she had yet to really run into someone who meant her harm. She should count herself lucky, there was no way a PKer didn’t exist in the 10,000 that had been stuck inside the game.

Gran practically poked the boar with her cane-mace and it exploded into shattered particles. She closed her eyes and sighed. Maybe she should have gone with a weaker weapon. The mobs on the floor weren't really doing it for her anymore. She thought about going to labyrinth, but she still needed to raise up a few players to be strong enough to even think about going into the labyrinth. There was no way she would go in alone. Her outfit gave little to no real protection. The red trimmed cape only gave her more damage. She was comfortable fighting anything out here alone, but she wasn't sure what kind of monsters would be inside that massive structure.
Another boar was charging at her. She closed one eye and casually swung the mace around to meet its face. The unceremonious action melted the swine into oblivion. She was near the base of the mountain purely because this was where most lower level players started their first E ranked quest. Climbing a mountain was easy, after all. She shook her head and looked down the path that lead up the mountain. Someone was climbing the mountain currently. Gran stayed in plain view and waited for the player to get closer. She gave a warm smile and a little wave. If it wasn't for the fact that she had literally just blew away two boars with no effort, one might mistake her for a complicated NPC. She'd gotten that response plenty of times.
"Hello!" Gran flipped her mace around so that the rounded end faced up. Placing her hand on the smooth metal tip of it, she stuck the handle in the dirt. It looked, for all purposes, like a regular walking cane any old lady would use, "If you're climbing the mountain, you'll find I'm wonderful company to keep." august hyperion

Finally finding the bravery needed to venture out into the world of Aincrad, Hyperion had found himself face to face with a mountain. He pursed his lips together and let out a whistle to signify that he was impressed. Looking up to the peak of it he used his hand to cover his eye's. "Wow I wonder what it's like at the top?" He asked to himself. Looking around he saw a couple of people, and in wishful thinking thought maybe they were nice?
Hyperion walked over to the two ladies , and introduced himself. "Why hello there!" He said with a smile and a friendly wave. "How are you guys today? I was wondering if you wanted a buddy to explore with maybe do a few quests?" Hyperion looked to the girl already climbing the mountain. AT first glance she seemed to be nice enough. Then Hyperion turned to the other one to hi surprise was an elderly woman. Oh man an old lady trapped in a game? Her poor soul he thought to himself. "Miss do you need any help?" He asked her out of genuine concern?

August held a surprised look on her face until she got within a few feet of Gran. She had seen the older women blast the boars away from a distance, but never did she expect it to be someone of Gran’s stature. It would make sense that older people wanted to play SAO as well. August had met younger children, so it only made sense there would be people on the other end of the age spectrum as well.
“I’m amazed,” August managed to blurt out before introducing herself. “I’m August! And I would love some company. I’m going to be honest, I feel a lot safer knowing it’s you and that magical walking stick you have climbing this with me.” August thought about offering up her arm or something to help Gran, but she figured the walking stick/mace hybrid was enough and she didn’t want to make assumptions about Gran’s ability to get around on her own. “Have you always been a fan of video games?” August asked.
Maybe she was a long term fan since she was young, or maybe one of her grandchildren roped her into playing. Whatever the reason, August was intrigued to find out how an old women got stuck inside SAO. She appeared to be fairing quite fine on her own; old age must really bring wisdom in troubled times.
August waved at the newcomer with a smile. Someone else to tag along with them? Now it was going to become quite a social party. “I wouldn’t mind more companions,” she replied as she stepped aside to allow Hyperion to speak to Gran. “You’re a bit new to questing too?” August asked. She wasn’t trying to call him out or anything, but they both lacked equipment. A funny situation if August thought about it hard enough given that the oldest in the group was seemingly more well-equipped just by weapon alone out of the bunch.

Gran raised an eyebrow as the girl spoke, taking in the newcomer's words. Gran nodded and gave her a warm smile, "You can just call me Gran, dear. Glad to hear you could use the company."
She decided to ignore the comments about how magical her weapon was. Any comments she could have made about it would've been snarky at best. So instead she hummed and nodded. And then Gran laughed and shook her head, "Heavens, no. My grandson got me playing them just a few years ago. Good bonding time, I'd say."
Thinking about why they'd stopped playing games, Gran frowned a little bit. There was a small hidden sadness in her eyes. With a light shrug, Gran flicked through her menu and sent August a party request. If they were going to climb the mountain, they might as well be in a party for it. As soon as Gran had sent the request, another person showed up and spoke. Gran found herself frowning pretty deeply at him, "Help? I don't think I need any help, no. Well, maybe a bit of mental help, but nothing I think you can give me."
Gran smiled a bit then and sighed as August spoke to the other kid. With a shrug, she flicked the party invite to the newcomer as well, "If you wanna tag along, that's fine. I didn't bring any extra trail mix, though, so I'm not sharing any with you." hyperion august

At the young girls crack at him being new Hyperion could not help , but chuckle. It was true after all in fact this would be his first quest. Hyperion with a grin and a nod said "Yeah, in fact this will be my first! but don't worry I know how to take care of myself." Well this was certainly true for the real world. However In the virtual one, Hyperion was having quite the bit of trouble fitting in to the new environment.Though he was not about to make these ladies worry about that.
Turning his head to the elderly lady as she spoke. He grinned at her comments, she seemed to be doing just fine. Well at least Hyperion thought so, and hoped he was right. "Well be that as it may if you do need any assistance please don't hesitate to ask." The young man couldn't help it. This lady reminded him of his grandmother who albeit was much older needed a fair bit of help around the house. At being invited to the party Hyperion graciously accepted. "Well we should get going I guess."

“Gran it is!” August had never called anyone grand besides her own grandmothers before. It felt a bit weird coming off of her tongue, but she supposed that she had to get used to it. Her face lit up knowing that someone else had been dragging into this whole ordeal in a similar fashion. “I’m not a big player either. A friend got me this game so we could play together.” She gladly accepted the party invite with a happy hum and discreetly turned her attention away from the two of them to look at something in the tree line as Gran made her comebacks towards Hyperion’s offer to assist her.
Trail mix? August hadn’t seen any being sold in the shops where she had been. Or maybe she did and just failed to notice it. “Did you cook it yourself?” she asked, “If not, I’d love to know where you got it.” Trail mix would have been perfect for this hike; the snack food at the name trail in it or a reason, after all.
“That’s totally fine, I think,” she replied to Hyperion with a cheery smile. She had been up this mountain trail a few times and not once she did encounter any sort of dangerous creature. She ran into a few birds and other animals that were there for more scenic purposes than use. With a cheer, August started to march forward to lead the group up the mountain. Her movements stayed in an exaggerating marching fashion for a few steps before reverting back to how a normal person walked. “Maybe we’ll see some cute birds along the way,” she remarked to no one in particular, “spotting them shouldn’t be too hard since some are brightly colored."

Gran was stuck between absolutely applauding this girl's enthusiasm and smacking her upside the head. So much energy was a dangerous thing if you drained yourself too quickly. She decided to smile instead and remain quiet for now. It wouldn't do for her to go spilling all of her secrets, now would it? How sad it must be for those people who gifted this game to loved ones, only to have the loved ones trapped in the game. She was reminded of her own grandson. She hoped her being trapped in this game didn't upset him too badly. He needed to graduate properly, after all.
Gran closed her eyes and sighed, "No, no. I was just making a joke, darling. Although . . . I probably should see if there's a recipe for trial mix when I get back to town. Hm."
"If I need assistance, you'll know, kid," Gran rolled her eyes at Hyperion, and began to walk down the path, walking cane striking the dirt every so often, "Let's get to the top of this sucker and maybe meditate for a while. Get those nice guru vibes going for us." hyperion august

“Experiment with cooking here is pretty interesting,” August admitted, “I’ve tried it with some cakes and such, but not really with anything else. Thinking about the options available though, I’m sure there is something that could be used to trail mix.” It might not be trail mix at the same quality as what was in the real world, but there were a surprising number of food combinations that could be made.
“Meditating?” August asked hesitantly. She knew about it, but she had never really tried it out herself. Her father used to tell her to be quiet sometimes when she was younger because he needed silence for meditation, but that was all she knew about it. It involved her father closing his eyes and deep breathing. “My father used to do that every night. He said it helped him manage his stress,” she yelped a little as her foot caught a root.
August quickly regained balance before she fell over and laughed nervously. She wasn’t hurt, so everything was okay. “Do you mediate a lot?” she asked Gran in an attempt to bring the conversation back to something that did not involve her embarrassing moment just seconds ago. She looked around in an attempt to avoid eye contact and that was when August noticed their other traveling companion was gone. granxgran

Gran nodded slowly, "Yeah, I'm sure there are thousands, maybe millions of combinations possible in the game right now. I actually made chocolate covered strawberries, too. Now those are delicious."
She chortled a little bit and hummed as she walked along the path that was already laid out for them. It was amazing how many things were just simply right there for them to go through. The game seemed pretty linear so far. Nothing about it had really been unfair yet, either. She smiled and then frowned when she noticed their other partner had disappeared. Where on earth could he have gone to? She'd only looked away for but a moment. She shook her head, wondering if the kid was alright, and then she looked back to August.
"I use to meditate quite often, actually," Gran smiled before she continued to walk along the path, "Of course, that was during my time in the military. We needed to relieve our stress as often as possible, really." august
