Disregarding the rather cheesy title, Domino had succeeded in finding himself another quest to partake. Another medial task that Domino would have found too troublesome to complete had he not convinced himself that it was all for the progression of his strength. If he truly wanted to survive this ridiculous ordeal, he knew that he would have to get stronger. And he certainly wouldn't have been able to live with himself if he stayed in the safety of the Town of Beginnings, while people risked their lives for his sake, and others. Nah, he couldn't. At the very least, though he would rather not have to end this Aincrad experience in that manner, he could at least go down fighting. Personally, he hadn't really accepted that. He probably never would. No one in their right mind would whole-heartedly accept their death.
Pointless ramblings aside, Domino stood before the house upon which the first kite had snagged itself on. Golden eyes peered upon the dancing object, its string under one of the roof tiles, preventing its much-desired escape to the skies. He took a deep inhale, before releasing an exasperated sigh. He had to be honest, when he picked this game up, even without the threat of permanent death, he never imagined himself to be doing mundane tasks like this. Placing a hand on his hip, he proceeded to lean on one leg, as he scanned the structure for a way to ascend to the rooftop of the two-story building.
And his golden eyes soon spotted an adjacent tree with a branch that stretched towards the edge of the roof. He blinked, staring at it briefly for a moment, before scoffing. Of course there would be a path to the roof. This was still a game, after all, and there was always a method of approach to every quest. Sliding his hand back down to his side, he would walk over towards the tree. He couldn't remember when was the last time he scaled a tree back in the real world, but he was sure he'd still be able to do it now. He reached forward, grabbing hold of the tree trunk with both hands, tightening his grip as much as he could, before proceeding to start climbing the tree.

Gran had been sitting on one of the lower branches of the tree, trying to take a nap. After fighting dire wolves in such a hectic manner, she was a little beat. With eyes closed, she wondered just how long it would be before they could go on to the next floor and get into even more trouble. She should get a party together for the labyrinth, perhaps. If no one else was going to progress this game along, she might as well try, right? She day dreamed about fighting bosses off with one hand behind her back, charging into the fray with a loud battlecry, rallying all of her troops for war. She fantasized about big, burly men loving on her and congratulating her on being so marvelous and stronger than they. She smiled.
Then, she was yanked from her fantasies by her tree being shaken. She peered through the foliage at whatever was causing such a ruckus. There was a kid climbing her tree. She squinted and scrunched her mouth to the side, looking around to see if there were any acorns or something for her to throw at him. Finding nothing, she decided on a different course of action. She waited for him to be almost to her level, and then she shifted on her branch, swinging herself into him, foot colliding against his side.
"Get out of my tree, I'm trying to nap!" DOMINO

What was he supposed to expect? Of course Domino never thought that anyone would already be upon the tree. How was that ever a common thought that came to one's mind when he had decided on this course of action for a purpose other than recreation? He was aiming for the kite, nothing more. And so, it came to no one's surprise that when Granxgran made her presence known, it had shocked the virtualized soul out of the red-head. His golden eyes shot wide open, the young man unable to pull up his defenses fast enough. The limb came in, and with his grip already loosened from the sheer shock, it was an easy feat to knock Domino off of the tree.
And down the man fell, landing on his back. His face winced in pain upon impact, the man having had the misfortune of falling onto a root with his lower back. He rolled over to the side, right hand reaching back to press against his lower back, while his left propped itself up onto his elbow to pull him off the ground. What the hell?
His chin reached upwards, golden eyes fixating themselves upon the silver-haired female that sat upon the tree, her skin a lighter hue of the tree bark. She donned an eye-patch, that covered a wrinkled eye. Her initial appearance was shocking, though getting a closer look at her, Domino found something else even more noteworthy. She was a player. He knew that all kinds of people had logged into the game upon its release, and that everyone's appearance had been reverted to match their appearance in the real world, but he never ever expected to see a player that was so... Seasoned.
"Wh-" he mouthed, her words repeating itself in his head, before he blinked blankly at her. Nap? He finally got back up on his feet, as he turned himself to face her, hands sliding back down to his side. "Who the hell are you, even?" he cocked his eyebrows, tilting his head as he stared curiously up at her.
For that moment, having come across a rather unique individual, Domino had completely forgotten the reason he had climbed the tree in the first place. granxgran

Gran let a smirk of satisfaction grow on her lips. Watching the red headed buffoon fall flat on his ass was very pleasing to her morbid sense of humour. A shame about not being able to take damage in the town, she thought to herself. She was curious just how much damage that would've been otherwise. With that thought, she repositioned herself onto another, lower branch, and looked down at the kid. Now that she'd had a good laugh, she doubted she was going to be able to get back into the nap induced state of daydreaming. She closed her eyes and sighed, thinking about what she could do now.
"Hey!" she called down to her victim, "You're still alive, right? I'm sorry for kicking you out of my tree. Waking up from naps always gets me a little cranky, if I'm being honest."
She wiggled her nose and crossed her arms, dangling her leg a bit off the branch. She looked around the streets and started planning out the new day. What kind of trouble could she kick up? Then her gaze returned to the red head beneath her and she raised an eyebrow, "Say, as apology, I'll help you with whatever you're trying to do right now. It's a quest, I imagine? Which one?" DOMINO

"You're still alive, right? I'm sorry for kicking you out of my tree. Waking up from naps always gets me a little cranky, if I'm being honest."
Domino twitched at the clear disregard for his question on identity, as he lowered his gaze for a moment. Teeth gritted behind closed lips, as he clenched his fist. What the hell was this? His mood was already sour enough having been disappointed at the quests that he had to force himself through just to get higher in the game, and now, he was getting kicked off trees and landing on roots. He took a deep breathe to quickly calm himself, before releasing an exasperated sigh. What was he doing, really? He brought his right hand, ruffling his own red hair. "Yeah, yeah," he grumbled back as he reraised his chin, looking back up at Gran. Well, she certainly looked rather guilty about it, wasn't she? He smacked his lips, before redirecting his gaze towards the kite that continued its mocking dance, held in place by its own string.
The seasoned female then threw an offer out at him, asking if he needed help with a quest. He blinked, before turning to look up at her. Really? He cocked his eyebrows in suspicion for a moment, but could not think of any other reason for her to actually aid him, other than it being a set up for another prank, of course. With that said, Domino would comply to her request, and bring his hand up. He then pointed at the kite.
"Gotta collect those for them pixel brats." granxgran

Gran kept the warm smile on her face, trying to read the kid's every reaction, getting a gauge for what kind of person he was. Nothing was off about him so far. She watched as he seemed to be a little irritated at her. Who wouldn't be, though? She followed his gaze over to the kite that was snagged on the tiles of the roof and she laughed.
"Oh yeah!" she shook her head and thought about the first punk who had helped her, "I remember those kites. I'm sure the little punks would appreciate it. Hold on."
She stood up in the tree, hand against a higher branch to steady herself. Her other hand flicked through her social menu and she sent the kid a party invite. With that sent, she practically walked up the tree and hopped over on to the roof. To most onlookers, it would look like she was just on a casual walk through the park. She smiled at herself and bobbed her head back and forth. When she reached the kite, she bent down and plucked the dancing string from the tiles. She shook the kite a bit and it fell into her inventory. With that, she walked over to the edge of the roof and stepped out into the air, as if there was going to be an invisible bridge.
She toppled towards the ground with a laugh. She flipped. Then Gran landed flat on her back with a thud. Her smile faded into a frown and she sighed. She really needed to look into those acrobatics skills. She lay on the ground for a moment and look over at Domino with an eyebrow raised, "I know where most of the kites are, dearie. We can get this over with pretty quick. Unless you'd like the ever so lovely experience of walking aimlessly around town looking for kites, doing a quest that really probably isn't worth it?" DOMINO

Oh, it seemed that she had done this quest before. That was good. At least her offer of helping him out in this quest had considerable value to it. It meant that she would already know the locations of the kites, and this mission would be done without needing the hassle of a search. Before she made any attempt to retrieve the kite, though, he was greeted then with the pop-up for a party request. He gave it one glance, before accepting. He knew that for her actions to contribute towards the completion of the quest, they would have to be in a party. That was just how the game worked. Not that it was any trouble, really. At least, then, no introductions would really be needed, as Domino focused in on the new smaller health bar that popped up before his own. Granxgran, huh? Domino decided to just settle with Gran. Amusing nickname, considering her appearing age. That had been on purpose, wasn't it?
With grace that betrayed her age, she moved onto the roof and collected the first kite, to which Domino gave a light smile towards. That was one down. Four more to go, if he remembered right. "Thank you," Domino called out, though whether it was in sarcasm or not would be left to debate, his tone not giving much in terms of clear interpretation. After all, she was just compensating him for kicking him off a tree, wasn't she? What happened next, though, was something that Domino had not expected at all. She fell off the roof, landing hard on her back. His eyes widened, as his first instinct was to rush forward to her aid. Midway to her, however, he remembered that this was a game, and this was a safe zone. That would have hurt, but no permanent damage would have been done. If anything, it was just karma kicking in.
He sighed in relief as the realization hit him, slowing to a stop. He had been scared for nothing. He really wasn't entirely used to this game just yet. She got back up, then, seemingly unhurt, other than her pride. He then gave her the due respect of his attention as she spoke once more. "Yeah, that'd be much appreciated," Domino replied, giving a few nods of his head. Despite their rather rocky start, Domino really saw no reason to hold any ill feelings towards her. She seemed... Nice enough. granxgran

Gran smiled up at Domino. He was going to help until he realised she didn't need it. She concluded that he was a good kid overall, even if he'd seemed angry at her for kicking him out of the tree. Standing up straight, Gran stretched her arms upward and yawned. She might as well get this little quest over with and try to take another nap. Or maybe do another quest with this kid. He was alright so far, and she could use more people on her list to call for help. She mentally shrugged and started down one of the roads, bringing up the locations of each kite in her head.
They were pretty close to the market place, so she figured they could start there. Pulling the cane-mace off of her back, she decided to start a decent conversation. She flipped the mace upside down so that the smooth round tip of it faced upwards, like the knob on a basic cane. To most onlookers, it would look like a regular walking stick any grandmother would use. She leaned against it as she walked, turning her head to Domino.
"So, kid," she mused out loud, "we've been here for a while now. Why aren't you all geared up yet like all those other big boys I've seen running around? You don't seem the type to be cowering in fear behind the safety of these town walls." DOMINO

What... Was that? Domino eyed her weapon curiously. It was a mace, that was for sure, but it didn't look like any normal mace. This one looked thinner, yet still as dangerous. Was that her weapon, or her -- as evident as how she was presently using it -- walking stick? Or perhaps both? Interesting concept. It drove Domino to wonder what kind of theme he should set for himself here in a world where custom items were as common as those sold in shops. Lives were at stake, yes, but this was game's setting nonetheless. Besides, nothing wrong with wanting to exploit the features while you're fighting for your lives a bit, right? Simply giving a nod of his head, he would begin to lead the way. It was a partnership born of rather shaky circumstances, but it was one that Domino was appreciating at that moment. It certainly saved him the trouble of having to search for the kites. As they proceeded towards the next kite, then, she spoke up, questioning his rather low level and appearance despite this incident having gone on for a period of time already. He blinked, turning his head to look at her for a moment, before rediverting his eyes back to the front. "I'm not, but I ain't the type to jump into the fray without analyzing the situation first. The entire dynamic of the 'Aincrad experience' changed with Kayaba's announcement. I'm not gonna risk my life being reckless and impatient, but I'm not gonna sit around depending on others either. I simply took my time in the beginning, learning what the game could offer first," he replied, his face rather solemn, yet it displayed a hint of confidence. He knew that it was going to be a difficult and painful path, but he was sure that they'd eventually find their way out of here. One way or another. "Is that it?" Domino blinked as he spotted a kite in the short distance, stuck in the center of a bush, its strings tangled in the leaves. granxgran

Gran laughed as they walked together, "Well, cowardice isn't the same as caution, you know? Of course, there were benefits of going out first, too, so you might have avoided dying quickly, but you missed out on a lot of EXP and resources. You could've gone out with others or even by yourself and just watched other people fight in the fields to learn about combat. That's what I did. Hiding behind these walls doesn't teach you much about the game itself."
She gestured to the building around her and smiled warmly at Domino. She tried to make it clear from the look on her face that she didn't mean to be hostile; she only meant to explain that there were better ways of being careful. She laughed a bit as he spotted a kite, "Yeah, I think that's a kite. Or at the very least it looks like one."
She raised an eyebrow at the kite. That's not where it had been the time she'd done it before. It had been on top of a stack of boxes. She sighed and wondered just how different it was going to be for them. Maybe she wasn't going to be a big help after all. DOMINO
