Domino released an exasperated sigh. First, lantern lighting. Then, kite fishing. And now, kitten hunting. Really, these beginner missions were rather... Unbecoming of the hype that was what made this game so popular. Travel new worlds. Fight glorious battles. See amazing creatures. Gain memorable experiences.
Nope, just kittens.
Domino frowned, wishing for the day he would be capable enough to partake in heavier missions so as to save himself from these mundane tasks. Step by step, he thought, rebutting his initial disdain towards the quests. To get to the point he wanted to go to, he would have to bear through these first. Focus on the finish line, he added on mentally. That was right. As long as he remained focused, and confident in that he'd be strong enough soon enough, he'd get there. It made him feel slightly better, sure, but it did not change his thoughts on the quest itself, especially this particular one. Hunting kittens. Where in this large town was he supposed to track these kittens down?
He figured they'd be rather close by, considering the difficulty level - or lack thereof - of the quest, but he also had that time limit to deal with. Raising his chin, he peered up at the sky, as the clouds continued to roll in, threatening the citizens of the Town of Beginnings with a heavy downpour. He certainly did not want to get caught in that either.
"No time to waste, then," he muttered simply as he stepped away from the residence of the client, stepping back out into the street. His best bet would have to be scanning the area, and trying to listen out for the sound of meowing. As adventurous as they may be, Domino only hoped that they remained true to the actual creatures they were coded to mimic, and purr their throats away in their fear or curiosity of their surroundings. It did not take him long, though, to spot another player in the immediate vicinity, who seemed to be searching for something as well.

Eris was furious. This was another day made for rain, and she absolutely hated the feel of the virtual droplets. Loathed it, even. She looked up at the sky and snarled at it. It had instantly started forming when she accepted the quest; this was ridiculous. She closed her eyes and sighed tightly. She just needed to focus on finding these cats. She sniffed the air and opened her eyes to examine the clouds again. She had about thirty to forty minutes before it would begin to drizzle, and then pour. If nothing else, she was pleased that Kayaba had programmed the weather according to real world physics.
"Damn it all," she scolded the air around her, "I'll need someone to help me look for these stupid cats."
She looked around her general vicinity, curious to see if there were any people near her. There were none. She huffed and started to walk back towards that little house where the old lady NPC had given her the quest. This would be her fourth quest or so, and it was by far the simplest, easiest, most unsatisfying and annoying quest she had undertaken to date. She was learning to hate this game more and more by the minute.
Turning the corner, she spotted someone coming from the quest starter house. She raised an eyebrow and walked over to them briskly. Without even bothering to question why they had been looking at her, as was her normal first response, she flicked her menu open and shot the man a party invite.
"Help me look for these damn cats," she stated simply, a bit of irritation in her voice, "I've got about half an hour before these clouds decide to piss on me and all over my jolly little parade." DOMINO

She certainly made no effort in hiding her intention as she approached him at a quickened pace, eyes pointed right at him. His reaction was rather similar to hers, as he cocked his eyebrow in suspicion. She certainly looked irritated, and he began to ponder if it had been his fault. Had he done something to irk the approaching female? He almost instinctively took a step back just to keep away, but as soon as she came within talking distance, she brought her menu up, and without warning, threw him a party invite.
That was enough to prompt that step-back, as he stared down at it. A party invite? What, was she doing the same quest as he was? That was a rather sharp guess, wasn't it? Wouldn't be that hard though, really, to come to that conclusion, considering he had just departed from the client's location. "Help me look for these damn cats," he glanced over the window that hovered in front of his face, towards her. He scoffed softly, amused at how he managed to obtain help in this rather tricky quest. "Jolly?" Domino reflexively repeated in a tone of disbelief, as he cocked his eyebrows once more. Eventually placing his eyes back on the window, he reminded himself that having another party member to aid in the quest would definitely make the search faster, what with them being able to cover more ground
And so, despite the method of offer, Domino raised his right hand and agreed to the party invite. The familiar smaller green bar appeared at the corner of his screen, with the name "ERIS" located adjacent to it. Eris, huh? A rather common name for a game person, wasn't it? Was there really still a need for introductions at this point? Domino thought against it then, aware that the gesture may just serve to add onto her irritation. "I'll search this way then," he suggested as he threw his hand over his shoulder, thumb sticking out and directed down the road behind him.
If no arguments were made, then Domino would do just that. eris

She could tell that he hadn't really been expecting her to be so straightforward about it. In fact, he was probably extremely uncomfortable with the situation. She resolved herself to not caring, however, and looked him in the eyes, cocking her eyebrow, "Yes, jolly. Can't you tell how fucking happy I am about this whole situation?"
She watched as he accepted the party request. Honestly, she hadn't been expecting him to even say yes to it. She was pleased about it, either way. She looked up at the new name that had popped up on her screen and she nodded firmly. Domino, was it? A decent name. Certainly not the worst she'd seen. She sighed and nodded at him, "Right. You go on that way, I'll go this way. The quicker we can get this done, the better."
She pivoted sharply on her heel and walked off briskly, immediately going down an alleyway. Surely the cats wouldn't stray too far away from their owner's home, would they? She shook her head at the thought and kept looking. It wasn't long before she heard a light purring and a slightly terrified mewling. She stopped and listened, trying to pinpoint the exact location of the sound. It was coming from a stack of barrels and boxes behind one of the inns. She walked over, looking into the open barrel, which was entirely empty, save a small orange kitten. She smiled down at it and went to pick it up. It hissed and swatted at her hand. Her smile turned into a scowl, and she gripped it firmly behind the neck. She didn't have time for this.
Then, she began walking back to the old lady's house, the feline in her hand squirming and hissing at her the entire way. DOMINO

"Yes, jolly. Can't you tell how fucking happy I am about this whole situation?"
Domino nodded his head, albeit rather sarcastically as he smirked. "Elated, even," he added on. He had been caught off-guard earlier, but with the shock having faded away, all he was left with was a rather grumpy -- though undeniably attractive -- female, that he could not help but feel compelled to tease. Whatever the case, it seemed that the two of them would agree to splitting up, and that was exactly what they did. Domino nodded his head in acknowledgement, before turning on the heels of his boots. And with that, he began to wander down the street, keeping his ears out for any hint of the lost kittens. Of course, it didn't take him long to actually spot one. Or to be more precise, hear one. He blinked, as he heard soft mewing from a short distance away, and altered his direction of movement towards it.
And soon enough, he spotted it, the orange fur amidst a canopy of green, and he openly frowned. "Are you kidding me?" he whispered softly to himself as he stared up at the tree branch that the kitten had managed to get itself stuck on. What the hell was with this game and making him climb trees? This was the second quest now that it had been a requirement off of him. He sighed, grumbling as he accepted his fate. With that, the red-haired male moved closer to the tree. As soon as he touched it, however, he found himself scanning the branches for any other players.
He wasn't so keen in repeating what happened the last time he had to climb a tree.
Confident that it was clear this time round, he began to ascend the tree, using all four limbs to maintain a steady grip as he moved closer to the kitten. Spotting him, it began to purr even louder, and retreat away from the trunk. "No, kitty. Please don't," Domino hissed as he reached the branch in question, and he reached towards the kitten. It purred even louder, as if calling for help to defend it from the scary red-head. Domino gritted his teeth, as he reached forward, only to have his hand scratched by a tiny paw. He retreated for a bit, glaring down at the light cut on his finger. Really? He tried once again, and this time managed to catch the kitten just as it turned around to run away.
But he had reached too far, and Domino's leg slipped off the trunk. His eyes widened, as he fell backwards. Quickly, he hugged the kitten, intent in protecting it from harm as he landed on -- surprise, surprise -- a root. He gasped, staring up at the leaves for a moment, before gritting his teeth. "I hate this game."
And moments later, Domino returned to the house, noticing that Eris had returned as well, and had dropped off the first kitten. With his making it two, that meant that there was just one more. eris

Eris scowled as the little old lady thanked her for returning one of her cats. She hated little old ladies with a passion. Her grandmother had been such a pain to take care of in real life that just looking at an eldery woman made her sick to her stomach. Still, getting this quest out of the way was for the best. She sighed and looked around, hoping that maybe another cat would spawn somewhere close by. And then she spotted Domino returning and she nodded at him. He'd found the cat pretty quickly. She wondered . . .
"You got the other one, awesome," she began, motioning for him to follow her after he gave the old lady her cat, "Come on. I wanna test something out. I'm pretty sure the game is actually calculating our location and travel direction. I believe it's actually spawning in the cats in our path, and we have some time to spare, so I wanna test out my theory."
As she began walking in a random direction, she wondered if she should bring a topic up to talk about. She frowned, not able to come up with anything good to talk about. She wasn't really a social person, after all. She opened her mouth a couple times to say something, but always closed it back, not sure what words she would even begin to speak.
"I like your hair," she finally managed to say something. Her voice was flat and cool, though. She wasn't even sure why she'd said it. She barely even noticed what colour his hair was. She sighed and stopped at a crossroads, looking around, thinking about where she should go next. DOMINO

"You got the other one, awesome," "Kinda feisty for kittens though," Domino grumbled as he rubbed his finger where the cat had scratched earlier. It wasn't bleeding or nothing, but he had nonetheless felt the pain from it. What the hell kind of kittens were these? Tiger pups? Before he could set out to look for the third cat, then, she spoke up once more, with gestures that indicated what she wanted from him. He blinked, before nodding his head at the gesture itself, choosing to follow before even listening to the explanation. There wasn't really any risk in doing so, right? They were just looking for lost kittens, with a timer. That timer, of course, being the weather. "If you say so," Domino answered simply, the male already walking behind her. Just as before, he allowed his attention to cover as much of his surroundings as he could, looking for any orange or cat-like movement, or the sound of purrs. It hadn't even been a minute of the awkward silence and the darkening skies did the woman speak up. And they were definitely words he was not expecting to hear at all. "I like your hair," Domino's eyes snapped towards her direction, and she wasn't even looking at him. He blinked, raising an eyebrow. What was that? Was she trying to strike a conversation? She... Wasn't really good at this, was she? He scoffed in light amusement, though inaudibly, before giving a light smirk. "Thanks, I guess?" he replied, his tone indicating doubt in her words. Distracted momentarily then by the female and her rather adorable attempt to break the ice, he would tilt his head. "You have nice hair too," Domino replied back, feeling the rather strong urge to tease her in regards to her bad social skills. eris
