Why was it so damn cold? A video game shouldn't be able to mimic the weather this much, right? And it's not like they were physically trapped in it, either. All this stuff was supposed to be in their head, yet when Alkaid ducked into the inn for the night, her entire body was trembling from the cold. The remnants of her crappy starter gear and cloak did little to provide relief. She practically passed out in the bed she rented, and was loathe to crawl out of bed that morning.
And then this asshole appeared. "Gee, you were half dead last night, but we need you to scrape off all the ice from the building. In the cold. In your definitely not winter clothes." Alkaid wanted to slug the man. Was it too much to ask that he not bother her while she was trying to enjoy her mug of hot chocolate?
But he also offered her some col and an article of clothing best suited for the winter. The man drove a hard bargain. She could stay warm and cozy in the inn, or freeze her nipples off for a minor reward. Even if she did turn it down, she'd have to wander the streets for a while until she could afford to buy her own equips, so...
"This had better be worth my time, old man." At least she wouldn't have to do it on her own; she would have told him to take a hike if that were the case.

live or die by what you do Ko was wondering what he could do to help out in the town of beginnings today. He figured that he'd be able to help out anyone really. The kids he'd helped were inside somewhere having fun because of the chill in the air. It must be the winter time for Aincard and he was perfectly fine with that one. He just hoped that he'd find something warm for himself. It wasn't like he was all that cold right now but they did actually get everything correct for this game. he had to admit that the more you looked around and stopped thinking about the real world the more you realized that his place was just as real as there or maybe it was because it had felt more real to him then life to begin with but that was besides the point at the moment. Helping someone that was what he needed to do. So he headed over to one of the Inns that he knew was run by an older man.
Ko had been stepping intot he inn when he heard someone that sounded a little more irked then he thought possible for this time of year. Then again it was cold and some people just didn't like the cold. He passed by the old man that looked a little annoyed but said hello to him and continued on his way. Ko on the other hand headed for the person who had looked like she was more that just a little annoyed. "Is there something that I might be able to help you out with?" He questioned her with a charming smile and a keeping the distance thatw as proper. "The name's Ko." He said with a happy glint in his eye. Hey if it meant col he didn't care if it meant something warm. If he could get col outta helping he'd be good as well good.
He waited for her to tell him what it was that needed to be done. He would be more than happy to help her out in exchange for a bit of money today. He needed it to get the equipment that he needed.

[attr="class","cmon"] [attr="class","cmonbox"] [attr="class","cmonlyrics"] Depart this world on a silver bullet I never believed I would ever pull it Now's the time, here's my show Ready to go I'm ready to blow [attr="class","cmonbody"]Alkaid was thrown off guard by the approach of a grey haired youth. He looked to be several years her junior, a high schooler if she had to guess. 'Ugh, why me?' Adults were easy to deal with, unless they were the persistent sort, like the few men who tried hitting on her from time to time. They were annoying, but got the hint eventually; they didn't have weird slang and weren't meme experts, either.
She was prepared to give the boy a hardened glare and tell him to bugger off, but this wasn't the real world anymore. It was a game, and she was badly in need of assistance. Plus, he was actually being polite. She couldn't say the same of some of these kids. So she steeled her nerves, told herself to do it for the col, and softened her gaze ever so slightly.
"The NPC" she jerked her thumb at the crazy old fool. "Needs people to help scrape the ice off the inn. There's no way I can do it on my own, and so far you're the only one volunteering." Usually the NPCs preferred to ambush players and force their quests onto them, but this one was happy to let Alk do all the work. Typical. "I'm Alkaid, by the way." She'd also never had to shovel snow or scrape ice off of anything other than her freezer, so this would be fun.
Not.
Were she as charming as this young lad, she would not be above tricking others into doing all the work for her, like Tom Sawyer. Maybe she could -- a shadow fell over her as the NPC lumbered over, two large sticks in hand. Alkaid stepped back when he nearly knocked her over with one. "Now that we've got an extra set of hands, it's time fer ya to earn your keep." He shoved a similar stick at Ko and stepped back, a large idiotic grin on his face.
Alkaid examined her tool, which resembled an odd shovel. The slab at the end was flattened and somewhat sharp. It looked reliable, though she had her doubts. "Do you know how to use one of these, Ko?" She didn't like to admit that she, an adult, was clueless, but Ko was a boy. They were the ones running out to do manual labor for cheap pay. She could learn by watching him.

live or die by what you do Ko might be just another kid to the adults in this game the funny thing was he usually got along with the adults far better then he did with teens his own age. He was one of those kids had always been. He acted older than he was and really that was mostly due to the fact that he and his brothers tended to well look after eachother so there wasn't really time to be a kid. Sure he rebelled as most teens do but that was besides the point really. Here he was just another person and so were they and they all had to count on eachother to help eachother out. The young and the old. And frankly age had never mattered to the sixteen year old who would likely forget age as time went on including his own age for that matter. So he waited politely and was not off put by the glare that the female gave to him. He was actually used to it. It was kinda something some of the older people did when they realized that a kid is age was approaching them and then they warmed up when he did not act like most other teens his age.
He listened to what the NPC wanted them to do. Clear of the ice on the inn that didn't seem so hard really. After all there was the fact that he'd shoveled snow once on a vaction with the family. One of those rare ones. And then at the dojo that he trained at he had done it once as well so he knew thankfully what he was doing in that right. "Pleasure to meet you Alkaid." He said with a smile and then got out of the NPC's way as he came at them with the sticks to clear the roof of the in. He took his and took a breath. Seriously were NPC's trying to kill them now. Okay he was low level and squishy and didn't want to die but that was besides the point at the currently moment he was totally gonna do something fun now. Sure it was manuel labor but it was something that he liked to do it would keep his strength up.
He looked at the thing in his hand and then back at Alkaid. "Yup i do but we want to be careful and we might want to this from the top to the bottom but that makes it a little dangerous cause we have to be on top of the roof. But it might be the best way to go and all." He gave another smile and thought about how they might be able to get up on the roof. It would be easier to be up on the roof but they could do it from the bottom as well with the length of the sticks and all. The problem there was making sure they didn't get themselves covered it what they scrapped off. He would have to look at the task at hand from the outside to be completely sure. But that was what he could say from still standing inside.
