| | She stifled a giggle with her fist as she looked on at the pigs, eyes darting to the antlers precariously tied around their round heads. The quest beacon would, she hope, eventually draw in another player. Level one with no gear, she was mostly attempting to do the quests that wouldn’t take her out of the Town of Beginnings before increasing her chances of survival a little, but she’d been too curious after hearing the rumour that there was a quest involving reindeer to not have a look for herself. Pigs, admittedly, weren’t exactly what she was expecting, but it had still brought a smile to her face. This bizarre, unexpected quest logic was just one of the things that made Aincrad far better than real life had ever been. The snow had only stopped about twenty minutes and crystallised flakes still hung in her hair, though they were starting to melt and drip down her neck, making her shiver. She was glad she’d originally made a male avatar; she’d seen the skirts that the girls had got, and they certainly hadn’t been designed with winter in mind. |

Not all was as it seemed. The would-be reindeer trotted about, their very being a mockery of actual reindeer. He had seen them once, on television. Awkward creatures that reminded him of mules, with fatter noses. Noisier, too, with smaller tails. These pigs made a mockery out of everything. Out of the entiriety of Christmas. He'd pressed his lips tight and sighed heavily. Nearby, there was another player. He guessed she was around his age. The girl had long, black hair, with eyes as bright as her smile. Her face was shiny. He approached and cleared his throat. "These um... These aren't quite the reindeer I'd expected." The marker over her head meant she was here for the same reason he was. "So um... well... would you like to do it? Er, I mean, together. Would you like to do the quest together?" He rubbed his hands on his tunic, then hid them behind his back. made by: n/a from link-start

| | Oh. Someone else had already seen her quest beacon and wandered over. Zero tilted her head at him, considering, though the comment about the reindeer made her smile. They weren’t, but she wasn’t disappointed either. It was more amusing this way.
He stumbled over his words a little, though he’d gone on to explain what he’d meant before she’d had time to get embarrassed over other connotations of his first question. “Sure,” she murmured in reply, offering him a party invitation. “I’m Zero, by the way. Any idea how we should go about doing this?” With no gear and no weapon, the aggressive pigs could be a problem for her, though the other player looked a little more equipped to handle it. Still, she was willing to help however she could. “I’ve never tried to herd pigs before.”
Would it be better to scare them towards the pen, or try and lead them? If only they had something to feed them with to make them follow. |

Ruler expected that at least 9,000 of the 10,000 players would have to admit to never having herded pigs before. He smiled despite himself, glancing at the reinde--pardon, pigs appraisingly. "I'm Ruler, and well... If it's 'how to go about this'... I've never done it before either, but can't we just scare them?" He remembered seeing a film once where a dog herded cattle by barking at them. Not that he was going to go on all fours and bark at the pigs. That'd more likely make them angry. It'd also definitely add his dignity to the Monument of Life, and Ruler fancied his dignity still alive and well... for as much as it could honestly be alive and well. "Maybe we can try doing it with one pig first. I mean, scare them and try to lead it somewhere that way." Her gear looked like the standard newbie stuff. Nothing that'd really put the fear of players in the dumb pigs, but then maybe these were special event monsters that would behave differently! Ruler was pretty sure that was possible. He'd just have to ask one of his game-savvy friends... could he do it now? His friendslist was getting pretty big. "I could try asking someone. I mean, no guarantee they'll reply, though..." Who'd he ask, anyway? Bunyan? Farms? made by: n/a from link-start
