Horus stood just at the treeline, sword clutched tightly in his right hand. He'd hoped to upgrade it before he came back here, but never had. Maybe after this quest he'd be able to. He hoped so, but at least this time he'd be fighting one large nepent instead of so many little ones AND a big one. At least this one would be easier to evade, to attack. Or hopefully distract, since there were two of them.
He tossed a sideways glance at his party member, August; she had been nice enough to agree to come along with him on this adventure. Horus had fought these creatures before, and it was no cakewalk, but it wasn't impossible by any means.
"The little ones will be useless to us. The large nepents mostly don't spawn with mistletoe, so we should probably avoid those too until we find the right one," Horus explained. "Have you ever fought these before?"

She nodded in agreement to his plan. She could see a few small nepents in their sights, but she knew not to be concerned with those. The large one with the mistletoe she failed to spot, so they’d have to walk a little bit further to find out where it spawned. “No, I haven’t,” August admitted as she equipped her one-trick pony and stood on her tip toes in an attempt to find the one they were looking for. “It can’t be too bad though. I mean, there are two of us and only one of them.” There were quite a few quests on the first floor involving these things, so they couldn’t have been life-threatening dangergous.
Still, August had resided herself to the fact that she was probably going to lose more HP than she felt comfortable with. She had yet to fight any monsters that posed a formidable threat. Attacking boars with Raiken and Farmsalot yielded results without her having to lose any HP because Farms was able to lure the boar back to him before it struck them. She had no idea how pain felt in the game, but any sort of pain in the real world was already unpleasant by default.
“How do we walk without disturbing them?” she asked, “or maybe we could go around and keep an eye out for the one we’re looking for?” She had no intention of fighting more than she needed to. August had foolishly decided against stocking up on potions before coming here. She had been too excited to go questing to make the necessary preparations, even though they were inside the marketplace where she could have bought items to aid them easily.

"Don't worry; small nepents have a fairly low aggro rate. As long as we keep our distance, we'll just need to be wary of any large nepents that appear," Horus shrugged. He glanced up at the trees as they entered the forest; the branches were high, but Horus could probably climb up there with his dexterity skill. Maybe he could escape there if he needed to, or avoid nepents altogether and scout for the one with the mistletoe. But August was a heavier fighter, and she probably couldn't make it up to that height as is. He'd need to think of something else.
Horus scanned ahead; the forest was pretty clear as far as he could tell. These woods had been poached nearly clean except for quest-specific targets, so the mob population was at an all-time low. Luckily Mistletoe was a holiday quest, so maybe finding the mistletoe nepent wouldn't be too difficult.
"When we find the nepent, it's going to hit like a truck," Horus warned. He'd fought these beasts before, and briefly wondered if this one would be more powerful than the nepent he had taken on with Raiken. He doubted it; it was probably just a special texture that was applied to it. He hoped so, anyway. "So dodge if you can. The vines will be quick but sometimes you can stop its attack if you're quick enough."
August had never fought nepents before; that made him nervous, but this must have been how Raiken felt when she brought Horus out here. After all that, Horus was fairly confident in his own abilities, and August seemed fairly confident as well. They would be fine.

Horus’s words helped soothed her fears somewhat. Low aggro was good; she wasn’t in the mood to outrun plants today. She nodded to show that she understood his instructions. It was going to hurt, but she was going to be okay. Dodge the vines if she could, but if she couldn’t then cut herself free or block them some other way. If she had a shield that tactic would have worked better, but for now August was going to have to focus on dodging and slashing.
Her eyes widen as she thought she spotted something moving in the distance with white spots. “Hey,” she huffed under her breath as she grabbed Horus’s sleeve, “is that it over there?” August used her sword to point over at where she saw the white spots. Mistletoes were white while the regular flowers these other large nepents appeared to have were not.
It could have been some leftover snow or something else like that that had fallen, but she really did think it looked like their target. “Should we sneak up? Or would that not matter?” August asked as she walked closer to get a better look and confirm that her eyes weren’t merely tricking her.
She walked carefully and slowly in an attempt not to make herself seen or heard. Horus had already told her that these creatures had a fairly low arggo rate, but August was still nervous that she might end up tripping it by accident if she made too many sudden moves. Horus

Horus scanned August again, up and down her small body. She wasn't much of a rogue...he doubted she had the sneak skill, and he was sure that he didn't have it himself.
"If we don't have the sneak skill, it's better that we charge right in," Horus said. He drew his sword; a straight, simple sword that would do well in this case. The sword had been a gift from Raiken, and she had been the one to teach him how to fight these monsters. He gripped it tighter, the tip of the sword leveling with his eyes in his field of vision. "Let's go."
Horus charged, and dust and dirt sprang up behind him from where he stepped. He couldn't sneak up on it, but if he was quick enough, he might be able to charge the monster before it could attack.
Horus activated his sword art, Slant, and charged the monster as fast as he could. Its back was turned, tiny mistletoe on its back facing him. The attack connected easily, a slanted, clean line appeared across its back, dealing 25 damage to the creature. Horus didn't let up for a second, dealing another blow right across the back, another 15 points dropping from its health bar. The creature wailed and spun around quickly, its vines only narrowly missing Horus' nose as he leaped away. "August, charge!"
