花は桜木人は武士 Arata kept his pace slow enough that Ruler would be easily be able to step up and set the group's pace. He lagged behind a moment, watching Toshirō move to walk alongside his nephew before picking up enough speed to walk on the student's opposite side. His old "friend's" reprimanding failed to catch him by surprise, as such, his eyes remained on the road, expression impassive and unchanging as he continued forward. "If anything happened to you I'd-"After allowing for a brief instance of silence and lost words to pass, his red eyes slid coolly to give Diz a mildly questioning glance, a single brow arching just the slightest bit higher as a smug smirk edged the corner of his lips higher. He'd be better off. Though, those weren't the words that left the other's mouth. His gaze lingered even as the man explained his supposed reasoning, only drawing back toward the road as he addressed the youngest of the group. Their talk of weaponry was of little interest to Arata, and though the thought crossed his mind that it should have been it didn't make any difference to him. It wasn't until the boy had turned his eyes back to him that he even bothered fully tuning into the conversation. Unsurprisingly, they were still talking about equipment. "Have you at least thought about weapons? I've started crafting some... and I could make both of you one, if you'd like."His usual sly smirk was back, brows raising lightly over his gaze as he turned his head slightly, watching Ii from the corner of his eye. " How generous, " was his gracious reply, however it sounded a mite more sarcastic than it did genuine. He knew that twinkle in the young man's eye - he'd seen it countless times before. " And how much would that cost me? " He doubted there was a good teacher discount. Diz scolded himself for the words that would have slipped out of his mouth. It was better if Souta wasn't aware of any of those things. Especially if he was close to Otsuki. There were moments that Diz didn't want to remember it himself. It wasn't painful. Just annoying. Aggravating to know that he was so trusting at that time only for it to be thrown back at him. He hoped that falling asleep would have helped him but it only made it worse. In his dreams, he saw that annoying smirk and mocking voice which only brought him back to the same conclusion. Words that he didn't want to speak. A conclusion that he didn't want to reach no matter how justified it could have been. I don't want to hate him forever.A squeal echoed behind the group but Diz was far too wrapped in his thoughts. But I don't know if I can truly forgive him, and that is terrible of me.A frenzied boar had followed the group from the moment they stepped out of the safe zone's border, eyes trained upon the samurai who was wrapped in his own thoughts. Taking the chance to strike, it let out a loud squeal which woke Diz from his thoughts. Only it was too late. The boar drove its head into his back causing him to fall off center and topple forward. Rolling a few times and landing in a heap of dust, Diz groaned and lifted his head. His vision was blurry but he couldn't miss the red eyes glaring back at him from a distance. His eyes widened. Pupils dilating and hands shaking. The boar squealed again, charging at him as he slowly rose to his feet, his irises dimming in color. otsukisensei Ruler«FRENZIED BOAR» LVL 1 | 100 HP | 25 STR | 0 DEX (AGGRO: DIZ) [newclass=.pricklebear1]background-color:#fff;height:auto;width:400px;margin: 0 auto;box-shadow: 1px 1px 2px 1px #c0c0c0;border: 10px solid #f9f9f9;google font="Open Sans";font-size:11px;padding:24px;text-align:justify;[/newclass]

Ruler had done the math ten times over in his head. The conclusion he'd come to was that, if he spent just 50 col on materials, or mats for short, he could charge as little as 70 col for a decent weapon. And still make a profit to afford crafting equipment. Considering the most expensive weapons available for sale were 75 col, and offered a lower damage bonus than the sword he'd crafted just earlier, Ruler felt confident he could charge that much. His teacher's sarcastic response and follow-up made the boy doubt that, though. "I um, I... g, guess it'd be okay to just... maybe 75 col..." His voice had dropped to nearly a whisper at the last three words, and he had averted his gaze. It was only because he had averted his gaze that Ruler noticed a particular creature following the party. It looked very much like an overgrown pig; Ruler, who had never seen a boar before, had not an idea that's what the beast was. It did not occur to him to warn the rest until the boar squealed loudly and set in for a charge. Ten thoughts concurrently fought for Ruler's attention. "Ah... ah...!" Ruler's voice trembled as he drew his weapon, a sword fresh from his own forge. He did not have an idea on how to address the threat, however, and shot a nervous look to Diz. "Wh, wh, what should I do?!"

花は桜木人は武士 It was easy to see that the teacher's snotty tone had well sucked all the wind from Ii's sails, and the fact that his uncertainty reflected on his expression made Arata's smile brighten. He didn't have any trouble making out the price muttered in a whisper under the young man's breath, but that didn't necessarily save him from a hard time. " I'm a bit older, " he stated clearly, an exaggeration given his age but still an obvious fact. " You'll have to talk little louder. "It was then that he caught something in the boy's eyes. Recognition? He blinked his eyes slowly, studying his expression before drawing his gaze to peer toward where Ii had fixed his own. A boar. A very large one. At the sound of its squeal his mind raced, quickly noting the sword sheathed at his hip and registering that it would be his only chance at fending the beast off. By the time his hand had reached for its hilt the large boar had already closed the distance, drawing the blade from its sheath just as the creature rammed its skull into Diz's spine. His eyes failed to follow as the man fell forward to tumble across the ground, still locked on the boar winding around for a second attack. The sound of Ii's sputtering spurred him to take the lead, feet pushing off from the ground as he drew his blade to his side, readying an attack as he sprinted toward the monster once again sailing toward Diz. " You stay back, " he answered sharply in reply, the advice coming more as a command than anything else. With the distance between himself and his massive target closing fast, he readied his sword at his side, aiming for a HORIZONTAL slash across the glowing red of its eyes. Hopefully it would knock the stupid pig off course, otherwise he'd end up flat on his ass, too. << 5 str | 5 dmg | 10 dex >> | 135/135 |

Diz felt as though his entire body had taken the brunt of the attack. He didn't ache but it did feel odd to be hit so suddenly. It almost felt real. And all at once, his mind began to grow hazy and he struggled to keep his focus. Red eyes were right in front of him. Red eyes. Diz tried to convince himself that this wasn't a dream. He could hear Ruler and Otsukisensei nearby but couldn't judge where they were. Was this a panic attack or was he just hallucinating again. Nonetheless, he drew his sword and pulled himself to his feet. The frenzied boar rushed forward only to be hit from behind and sent spiraling to the side in a heap. Diz clenched the hilt of his sword and as if possessed by some unnatural force, unleashed hell. He charged another sword art this time and clenched his teeth as he waited for the beast to stand to its feet. Rushing forward, he slashed through horizontally causing the boar to squeal in pain. The beast recoiled and was stunned for a moment as Diz turned on his heel and slashed through it again. He caught sight of Ruler. Afraid and trembling in the corner of his eye. " Fight!" The boar turned its attention to him after regaining footing and snarled. Lips pulled back, teeth bared, it raced towards him again. " Run at it and strike, Ruler!" The boar lunged for him and Diz shifted to the side, narrowly missing tusks that would have run him through. His legs trembled, and he felt hot all over. His hands were sweaty, and Ruler could swear he felt dizzy. Otsuki was not at all like him: his teacher charged forward, confident in what to do. Ruler only watched as the man took on the boar, landing a clean blow against the creature. A bar near the boar rapidly emptied about 20 percent. The boy took a deep breath, and then another. The fundamentals of combat... what was it again? A fight was lost if you had already decided you'd lose. Without courage, even the greatest fighter could not win. Even so, the last time he had been in a fight was ages ago, and Ruler still felt his stomach churn. Otsuki ordering him back caused Ruler to trace back two steps, freezing in his third at Diz's conflicting command. Before he'd realised it, the boar had charged anew, but Diz had cleanly taken off another fourth of the creature's health bar. It looked like it had been reduced to almost the halfway mark... That meant it'd take another three attacks, at this rate, to win. He swallowed. Inhaled sharply. Settled his gaze. Between his cousin and his teacher, there was no questioning who he trusted more. Diz narrowly dodged the boar. Its attention seemed almost entirely focused on Ruler's cousin. The boy took that moment to charge forward. "Raaaaaah!" He swung his sword, activating Horizontal, and slashed the creature clean in the side.

花は桜木人は武士 He hadn't fully expected the amount of force that would be pushing back at him as he landed the strike on his intended target. His brows knotted tight over his eyes as he put all the strength into the hit the game would allow, but maintaining his footing was looking to be a bit more difficult than expected. Arata's free hand reached out in an effort to stabilize him, and he stumbled back a few steps as the boar was sent flying off course from the power of his blow, taking note of the chunk of color depleting from the gauge over its head. Though he was able to remain upright, feet planting themselves solidly against the virtual dirt beneath his shoes, he found his mind struggling to process his next move. He could hear Diz getting to his feet nearby, the drawing of his weapon, and the telltale sound of feet pattering in a rush to close the distance as the boar shook off the attack and got to its hooves. Toshirō had already rushed by him by the time Arata too set course for the animal once again, lips drawn into a grim line as his fingers tightened at the hilt of his sword. He noted that the other man too had started with a horizontal swipe of his blade, the way the creature drew back from the hit, and set to work on focusing his thoughts fully on the fight. The calls to his student reached his ears, but they hardly registered as his gaze followed the movements of the boar carefully, following after it as its failed charge sent it sailing just along Diz's side. With Ruler's battlecry signalling a charge, he paused in his steps, coming to a halt as he watched the boy sprint by to draw his blade along its side. Arata's blade fell at ease to his side as he watched the pair fend the monster off. The edges of his lips fell slightly as the corners of his eyes tightened, narrowing his gaze as he stood there a short distance away to watch the fight impassively. << 5 str | 5 dmg | 10 dex >> | 135/135 |

Relief spread through him almost like wildfire. At least Ruler would have the confidence to fight later on even if he wasn't by his side. The boar reared its head again, intent on running through the samurai only to be gored by the younger player. Diz only took brief notice of Otsukisensei. He wanted to say something to him though the words would've been from someone else. A time that he wasn't accustomed to feeling anymore. It was gone now. Tightening his hold on his sword, he propelled himself forward to meet the boar head on as it swayed back and forth. There was a bit of HP left but if he did his best at attacking then he could get it down. Swinging his sword in an arc, he sliced through the boar as it shined a luminiscent blue. Then holding it above his head, Diz had a momentary thought. This almost feels..He brought it down and sliced through the beast. Diz sucked in a deep breath of air and stood away as it continued staggering. On its last leg, he glanced up at the HP bar and almost blanched at seeing it slow close to being empty. They were really going to kill something for their first battle. It wasn't as though he felt any remorse for the pig. It was just data. But he did feel a bit of sadness in his chest. Though, he couldn't recall why. " Finish it off Ruler." His hold on his sword didn't slacken. If his cousin couldn't do it, he would. It was only fair after all. Ruler watched his cousin get in another clean hit on the boar. The fight was definitely going their way. In a way, it was exciting to fight. The idea that their real lives were on the line was pushed back far in Ruler's mind. His cousin's command was hardly needed. The boy was already rearing to go, and he'd dashed forward the moment his cooldown expired. With another battle cry, Ruler activated the uppercut sword art, moving his blade up in a crude, but still functional fashion. The sword passed cleanly through the boar, who exploded in a burst of tiny pixels. It was almost pretty. "So that...haah...was a fight...?" Even though it didn't feel like he needed to catch his breath, Ruler was breathing heavily nonetheless. He figured it was just habitual, since neither his arms nor legs felt any bit tired. There was the fierce beating of his heart in his chest, and Ruler couldn't decide if it was fear... or excitement.

花は桜木人は武士 As expected, Toshirō was doing an acceptable job of bringing the beast down, the dull glow as of his sword as he activated a skill without hesitation. His attention shifted to measure the creature's remaining strength, catching the minute sliver of color left its health bar, before his gazed eased itself back to rest coolly on Diz. Though his call to his nephew came as a mild surprise, his expression remained unchanged. Another roar from the boy and sure enough, the mad animal burst into a shower of blue pixels. His impassive stare fell to Ruler as the student spoke through heavy breaths. Arata's hand shifted to alter its grip on the hilt of his sword, carefully drawing it around to rest within its sheath. "So that... haah... was a fight?"His lips remained pressed in a mild line, brows resting easily over his eyes as his eyelids came to set halfway over his gaze. To Arata, the boy sounded almost exhilarated by the prospect. He didn't move to step back toward the road, mind busy at picking apart the young man before him. He didn't open his mouth to question him, he didn't knot his brows with disapproval or offer any assuring smile. Arata simply stared, calm, waiting patiently. What he was waiting for, however, wasn't exactly obvious. Diz felt himself slowly relax after the beast shattered into a countless array of shards. He took in a shaky breath before exhaling and weighed his sword in his hand. For a moment, he counted down from ten and stilled his beating heart. Then hell unleashed. Turning his gaze to Ruler, he fixed the young adventurer with a pointed stare. Sheathing his sword in one fluid movement and lessening the distance between them, he stared at him with a look that had a mixture of pride and mild exasperation. " That was a battle," he said. " The first of several and there are a few things that you can't do." To illustrate his point, Diz raised his hand and counted down with his fingers. " For one, your battlecry could alert several of the monsters closest to us which could trigger their aggro and cause them to come near." Making a gesture around them, he folded his arms. " If we were swarmed with an army of boars, there is no possible way that we could fight them all off without dying." He said. " You have to remain quiet and vigilant at all times." He sighed and his shoulders sagged slightly as he cast a wary glance towards the shadows cast by the canopy of leaves. There could be a number of things lurking in the underbrush and he wasn't going to take chances especially with two lives that weren't his own. Turning his attention back to Ruler, he tilted his head to the side. " I know that it is different than what you are used to, practice will make the difference, but you can't hesitate when your life is at stake. You have to trust the blade that is in your hands and yourself." With that, the samurai looked towards the path that they were continuing on. If they moved with haste, they would be able to make it to Horunka. He was hoping that the boar was the only animal that they would encounter. " My guess is that the boar was after me to obtain the quest item, so we may need to keep an eye on our surroundings." He clapsed a hand against Ruler's shoulder and smiled a bit. " You did well though." Removing his hand, he turned and motion for the pair to follow, making his way down the dirt path. The ache in the back of his mind receded slowly but he couldn't shake the feeling of those red eyes. Ruler's sense of pride for having beaten the boar very quickly made place for shame, and he hung his head as Diz admonished him. He couldn't say anything more but to stammer "Yes..." a few times in response. The kiai was the basis of Japanese kendo, he knew. He'd watched some of it, after all, and during the heat of the fight it'd felt good to just let all that adrenaline out by crying out. But if it truly attracted monsters, his cousin was right, and he had endangered them. If it was just a game, that'd have been OK, but it wasn't. There was much more at stake. Even Diz's compliment afterwards didn't return Ruler's enthusiasm, and he kept his head hung. "Yes..." he said one last time. He felt like apologising for having been such an idiot, but the words just wouldn't come out. With a dejected sigh, Ruler followed after Diz. He did raise his head, if only to look around for more monsters. It wouldn't do to be surprised a second time...

花は桜木人は武士 "That was a battle." Arata turned his eyes away as Toshirō approached his nephew, giving the two a bit of privacy as the boy's elder apparently sought to teach him a thing or two. He tilted his head slightly, red eyes peering into the shadowed wood off the side of the road as his arms rest calmly at his sides, a hand raising slightly to set itself back at the hilt of his sword. It was as Diz began listing off instructions that Arata set off, one foot in front of the other, to head down the road without them. He could hear their voices well enough to easily make out their words, failing to set much of a pace for himself as his gaze centered itself on the horizon. Toshirō's lecturing seemed to be met with only meek "yesses" in response to his lengthy bit of advice. Arata wondered if it was really the time, but if it took a load off of Diz's mind he wouldn't interrupt. It was just as Toshirō had finished speaking that he finally opened his mouth, brows raised lightly over his eyes as he took a haughty tone for himself. " You would do well to follow your own advice, " he called back to the older of the pair behind him, failing to turn his face from the road ahead. He didn't seem too worried about keeping his own voice down. Diz held his tongue in responding to Otsukisensei. The things that he could say to that man would probably make a maiden blush and someone swear that he was going to kill him where he stood. With a sigh, he turned his eyes away from the red-eyed man. He had to. Guilt rested on Diz's chest making a weight that he couldn't bare. Not only did he lash out at Ruler but he also froze when the boy needed him most. It was shameful but he couldn't help himself. Time passed by without consulting him and tossed him from one nightmare to the next. The only thing tethering him to remind him that it was a dream were red eyes. He knew that Otsuki wouldn't come for him. Arata wouldn't have come to see him or save him. Only a scar that would never heal and constantly tether him to his past. But that is only if you allow it.He glanced back at Ruler who trailed behind them with his head bowed. Falling into step with the younger boy, Diz glanced at him before looking forward. " I'm sorry," he said. " I shouldn't have lashed out at you like that." He looked to him then away. " I'm only worried more so for you than I am myself." It was true. His actions, in the real world and Aincrad were for the same purpose. " We don't talk about it, I know," he muttered. " But since the hospitalization, I've been having nightmares and it is hard to discern reality from the dream." His gaze flicked up to Arata's back. And a chilling thought caused him to turn his gaze away. " I don't even know how much time has passed and the pain is lessening but the shock is still there." Time seemed to slip past him and as he tumbled from one reality to next, the dissociation grew, but the pain stayed. He found himself reliving memories. Warped realities. Seeing people that weren't there. Hallucinating that he was awake when he was sleeping only to fall again. " I panicked and I could have gotten you killed." His eyes squeezed shut for a moment to push away the thought. The fear, the unbridled rage that consumed him. He never wanted to feel that way again. The nightmares weren't going to take him away from his family again if he just held on. " It doesn't matter what happens to me, Ruler. It doesn't. It hasn't for awhile now. But I've always wanted what was best for you though I don't mean and I never will mean to hurt you." The samurai couldn't stand with the boy's father lashed out at him. The arguments between them becoming deeper than simple parental values but more so for what was best for Souta. Diz wanted what was best for him and he knew that going to sleep was the best option. If he couldn't help his cousin or watch him grow into the man that he knew he could be, he knew that he'd regret it even in death. otsukisensei Ruler[newclass=.pricklebear1]background-color:#fff;height:auto;width:400px;margin: 0 auto;box-shadow: 1px 1px 2px 1px #c0c0c0;border: 10px solid #f9f9f9;google font="Open Sans";font-size:11px;padding:24px;text-align:justify;[/newclass]

Ruler listened quietly, but intently. He'd learned to bow his head and accept admonitions. Those older than him knew all the answers, and he only knew questions. But he felt conflicted. Their journey was strained still: Otsuki-sensei may have assisted in the fight, but he seemed to be closing up again. The Otsuki-sensei he knew was more... more... different. Maybe he was just putting up a front at school. Maybe it was Diz. What had happened between his cousin and teacher? "Cuz. It's fine." His voice was quiet, but steady. "If I endangered everyone, you should scold me. But..." he raised his head and levelled his gaze with Diz, "you're important, too. Don't say things like 'I don't care what happens to me', because I care. We all make mistakes, but..." He hesitated. "It's because we're there for each other. All of us," Ruler glanced at Otsuki-sensei, "are in this together, so if one of us makes a misstep..." Ruler smiled. It was a weak smile, but the best he could manage. He held up a fist, to bump against Diz's. Family. Family never left the other behind. He'd understand, even if Diz got angry. Ruler knew he simply needed to be stronger, so Diz didn't need to worry. He'd already resolved himself not to hide in the Town of Beginnings, so he had to learn to fight. One day, Ruler wanted to be there, at the hundredth floor, to defeat whatever enemy stood between them and victory. Would they ever get there? "And Otsuki-sensei. Thanks, for helping out." Ruler stared at his teacher's imposing back. "You... you still seem a bit standoffish to me, but... well, you're a teacher. So I... can sort of understand, but..." Seriously, what happened between "you and cuz?" Questions. He had a lot of those.
