Pax's smile was sinister and bloodthirsty. So far, he was meshing extremely well with this kid. Not counting the slight irritation he felt occasionally, but that was perfectly fine by him. He was going to mention something about how they really didn't need to push their luck, but he let Marth talk first. All thought of being careful about it flew directly out of his mind's metaphorical window. His smile broadened and he nodded as Marth explained his experiment. Pax hadn't tested the exact mechanics of multiple enemies yet himself, and this would be the perfect opportunity to test for friendly fire mechanics.
"I have only one slight modification to your plan," Pax was positively radiating bloodlust, his eyes glinting on what some would consider borderline insanity, "Instead of just one, we separate. I'll pull aggro from this one on the left, you pull the one on the right. The pig's first attack is always a charge. Once it initiates that, run directly to each other and dodge away at the last second. It would be no fun to test it out if we didn't have both pigs at nearly full HP, would it? Hardly an experiment at all."
He focused his blood thirsty glare on Marth for but a moment, and then he was off. He practically flew at the pig, sword drawn behind him, glowing with its foul intent of piercing the mob's hide. The pig turned towards him as he launched the skill, slashing the pig from one side to the other. In the instant he heard the pig squeal in displeasure, he laughed and pivoted on his heel, dashing now towards Marth. Underneath his blood boiling excitement, Pax was truly curious about whether the pigs could hurt each other. If they could, it would open up so many different combat strategies for him. He prepared to throw himself out of the way. His curiosity was burning. MARTH

Paxilon seemed to be loosening up and jumping on the bandwagon for having a great time. Marth smiled as he twirled his sword around in his grip. Though, that smile soon became a confused stare as the other man began to change. He was laughing maniacally. Eyes wide, pupils dilated, and seemingly jittery in nature. Marth was caught staring at him for so long that he nearly forgot about the pig that was regaining its footing. Turning his gaze from Paxilon to the pig, it slowly shook its head before turning beady black eyes onto him. The swine squealed and rushed forward just as he heard Paxilon's maniacal laughter. Has he lost his mind? The teen took off, finding himself running straight for Paxilon. This couldn't end well and he hoped that his plan went accordingly. Mom always said that I'd drive her crazy. He hummed to himself as the distance between them slowly closed. At the last minute, he lunged out of the way and fell onto his bum as the two pigs collided with one another. They collectively let out a loud squeal and were staggered for a moment. Marth stared and then looked towards Paxilon with a wide grin. Holy crap, did that work?To make sure he wasn't dreaming, he looked to their HP. It lowered considerably possibly from the impact of the blow. " Awesome!" Pax was all action now. He made a mental note that pigs could, in fact, run into each other and damage one another. He felt his blood pumping, hearing the rhythmic thud in his ear drums. No game had ever made him feel like this before. That risk of death. That sensation of being able to feel your opponent fall apart. He licked his lips and grinned wickedly, tightening the grip on his sword. He lunged forward and jabbed his sword into one of the pig's side. He felt the anger he'd been building up for this entire situation just boiling over inside him. He would not be bested by some program.
He went to start a sword art, but felt himself get knocked in the side by the boar he had failed to take action against. He saw his HP bar lessen ever so slightly. Luckily, it hadn't been a charge. He reflexively kicked at the boar and then swung his sword down on to its head. His attention turned to the first boar that was readying to attack him. He smacked the boar with his shield, as if parrying an attack. The effect was the same as blocking, but it felt to him like he was only attacking.
Pax was getting tunnel-vision something fierce. Honestly, he had yet to blow off any steam in this game. The pressure that had been building up inside him was suddenly released in this combat, tearing at the edges of his mind like a beast that hadn't been fed in a week. In reality, the only thing that he had ever had to blow off his steam from every day life was video games. To be trapped inside what let him escape was the kind of irony he could not get behind. And it was pissing him off more and more by the minute.
A scream built up in his stomach, exploding through his throat and out of his mouth in a terrifying noise. It was a scream of anger, agony, and fear. But most of all, it was a scream of hate. MARTH

Marth glanced at Paxilon briefly. He'd seen this before in the face of persons who lost all that they had ever known. That emptiness, the light in their eyes growing brighter as realization dawned and finally the healing could begin. Even if he wasn't exactly feeling the same frustrations that the youtuber may have been expressing, Marth could somewhat understand. He felt for him. The teen turned on his heel and darted back towards the pigs. One of them rammed Paxilon in the side and the alarm threatening to rise in his chest was silenced. He could handle himself. Getting distracted would lead to their deaths without a doubt. A scream tore from the other man's throat as Marth approached and the realization was clear. He's breaking down.Charging a sword art, he sucked in a quick breath before bringing his sword down on the pig's head in a quick succession. It recoiled and he took the time to bound backwards. If this is catharsis for him, I won't stop him.His gaze flicked to the other pig who was intent on ramming into Paxilon. Although, he could see something else coming towards them and nearly cursed his luck. A third pig having been called forward at the sound of squealing and close proximity was trotting towards the pair at great speed. But we're really going to have to talk about his aggroing.Standing in the way, Marth rushed forward to greet the pig with the point of his blade. Slicing across its snout for a momentary recoil. Pot calling the kettle black, aren't I?" Handle the one behind you, and take out the first!" Pax was engulfed with emotions. The steady rise of frustration and rage suddenly clicked inside him. His wild eyes slowly turned into a sharp, refined glare. All the chaos that was his mind slowly sorted itself out, but the emotion was still there. His reckless abandon morphed ever closer into calculated thirst for blood. There was nothing but the combat now. Every brain cell he had suddenly stopped burning with anguish and turned the collective intellect towards achieving victory over these pigs. Pax exhaled a sharp, calming breath. His eyes flicked from the first swine to the second, gauging what moves they would use next. His attention snapped as one pig lowered its head.
Simple charge, the words snapped quickly through his mind, Lower shield. Counter. Simple attack into skill charge.
He brought his shield to bare, level with the pig's snout. Instead of pushing forward immediately like he had before, he waited. He pulled back the shield slightly as the pig collided into him, using the momentum like a spring to shove the shield into the pig. The mob staggered backwards exactly like the others had before, but it felt more natural for Pax to lunge into action this way. He brought his sword up across the pig's face in a very precise swing, bringing the blade to rest inches from his shoulder. He hadn't even moved his feet yet.
As the sword began to glow, the currently untouched pig started to move. Marth was attacking it. Without a second thought, he pivoted back to the pig he had attacked first, launching his skill directly into the mob's head. Poor thing had taken two blows to the face now. He snarled, the sound carrying in to a low, guttural growl.
Another pig, he hadn't quite heard Marth, but that was fine. He watched as Marth moved to take action against the new challenger, He's fine. Aggro.
Pax swiftly managed a not so efficient attack against the swine he hadn't hit yet, assuring that he took the aggro from both of the pigs as Marth handled the other one. He inhaled sharply and prepared for the two pigs to attack him again.
With an uneasy sense of calm, he spoke words that he thought he was only thinking, "I will tear this game apart." MARTH

Marth bit the inside of his cheek as he charged a Sword Art. It wasn't often that he had to play the peacemaker or even split his attentions between two different circumstances. However, with Paxilon's slowly derioritating mental health and his own concerns with the enemies surrounding them, Marth was torn. The pig rushing towards him was intercepted by a quick slash and went spiraling into the grass. A dust cloud rose and Marth muttered a few words as he turned back to the other man. " Pull yourself together!" He rushed to Paxilon's side in hopes of intercepting the two pigs rushing at him again. Pulling his rusted sword back, he breathed harshly through his nose and brought it down on one of the pigs. It squealed and recoiled giving him enough time to put distance between the pair. They'd only have a small window but it was fine. They were doing fine. Well, he thought so until he heard the words that Paxilon uttered. Destroy the game. Glancing back at him, the look in the other man's eyes was much different than the happy go-lucky person that he laughed with earlier. " I don't know what switch flipped in your head but you have to stay above it!" Marth clenched his fist. " Get a hold of yourself Pax!" Pax focused on the pig fervently. His mind told him that three mobs reduced chances of victory too greatly. He brought his sword behind him and quickly charged a skill, launching it immediately, cutting through the pig viciously. He eyed the depleting HP bar of the mob, and then he gave it another slash. He grinned maliciously as he felt the skin give way to digital shards, that satisfying shattering sound ringing in his ears. He snapped back into focus and whipped around, smile instantly fading away as he focused on a new target.
Something in the back of his head was telling him to slow down. He was getting like this because he needed sleep. He was losing his calm over pigs. He mentally snarled at the voice that was telling him to snap out of it. He was fine. He just needed to blow off some steam.
"I'm fine," he snarled between gritted teeth, directing the anger of it towards the pig nearest him. He hefted his sword behind him and went to attack the closest swine before noticing movement from behind Marth. He kept the sword skill ready and slammed his shield hand into Marth's shoulder, pushing him clear out of the way. That pig had recovered too quickly. It had started a charge right towards Marth's back. Pax barely managed to clip the pig's snout with his shield in time. He let out a sigh of relief as he still managed to stagger the pig. As he let out the sigh, he launched a horizontal sword skill at the pig he hadn't blocked, hoping to stagger the mob, to give him a moment of breathing room.
True calm settled back into his mind as he turned his eyes to Marth, voice cracking from the sudden realisation that he had lost it for a moment, "Worrying about people like me is going to get you killed, kid!"
With that comment, he huffed and made a light slash for the pig with the lower HP. It connected, but not quite with as much feeling as he'd hoped. He blinked a couple tears from his eyes. He wasn't sad, but rather stressed.
"I could really do with a nap right now." MARTH

One of the pigs shattered and the counter went up by one to Marth's delight. If they could finish this soon then he wouldn't have to worry about a homicidal youtuber or a bunch of cannibalistic pigs that were trying to turn him into fodder. Wherever Kayaba was, he should be laughing up a storm because this was going to get personal very quickly. He was alright with the idea of a death game. He was okay with the idea of having to fight and use his head to survive but he was not about to be trapped in a castle with a hundred floors surrounded by emotionally unstable people. It is hard. It sucks but this is life now and you gotta get through it! Marth's mental peptalk came to an end as he was pushed out of the way. Staggering and almost falling to his knees, he looked back to see Paixlon fending off an oncoming pig. " Killed, really?" Charging a sword art, he lunged at it and sliced through. The pig's form wavered before exploding into digital shards. " I was going to say that it would leave me on the business end of a pig's charge." Almost on cue, another pig rushed at the pair and Marth stepped around to stand behind Paxilon. " D'you know how frightening it is watching your hero slowly descend into madness, Pax?" The pig steadily came closer and the teen shot out from behind the other player to slice at its side, momentarily staggering it. " Well let me tell you, it's terrifying!" They had four pigs out of the way, this was the last and hopefully the easiest. " I get that what I did was reckless and clearly irresponsible but for the love of all that is holy and just, keep it together until we can finish this!" His hands were shaking. Adrenaline was still pumping, but he'd lost that killer motive. But he was still in a position where he needed to fight. Pax took a second to breathe. He reminded himself that sleep could come after he didn't die. He glanced at Marth with a coy, shaken smile, "Hero, huh? That's awfully kind."
He grinned weakly as he side-stepped a pig's attack, returning in kind a basic attack of his own, "But I gotta say, it's not a slow descent. It's more like extreme free fall. A perfect example, actually."
He eyed the new attacker with a good bit of irritation in his voice, "I'll distract this one, and try to block a few hits for you. We need to get this over with."
He squared his legs and drew his sword back, letting it shine brightly before he huffed, "I could really go for some ribs right now."
He slapped the pig with his shield, slashing a diagonal line of light through the pig's face. He was really going to have to apologise to Marth when this was all said and done. He examined the pig as it staggered backwards. He scowled, "We need to start heading back to the road before we end up with more bacon than we can handle." MARTH

Well, if anyone was going to ask him what his most traumatic experience was while in the game it'd have to involve a pig and a lot of science. No one would believe him. Probably call him crazy or otherwise unstable but Marth ahd the sneaking suspicion that a lot of other people in the game were equally if not more insane. While Paxilon talked to him, he muttered a prayer to whichever god was looking down upon them. Even if the deity didn't have mercy or was Kayaba in disguise, perhaps they'd take pity on him for at least trying to keep his cool. The anticipation of battle and slight hunger for fighting was dispelled only by his mild irritation. " Yeah, this shouldn't take long." He charged a sword art and rushed forward to slice his sword down in an arc. Drawing back after the pig staggered, he drove it home again. The pig let out another squeal before shimmering and dispersing into fragments. Marth took in a deep breath before sheathing his sword, turning to face Paxilon. " Do me a favor," he said. " Talk to me about this once we're back in the city." He walked past him and headed back to the dirt road which would take them into the Town of Beginnings. What he really needed was a nap or perhaps a therapist, maybe both, but not at the same time. It wasn't good a idea to hold a weapon right now and after that mild outburst of bloodthirst and insanity, he didn't want Paxilon holding on either. " Last one in is eating bacon later on today." It hadn't dawned on him at the time but the sun had risen in the sky signaling the early morning. He could get some breakfast, probably chill out a bit and find his center. This mission was very very crazy. Pax released a lot of tension as the last mob died. Muscles he didn't even know were tensed loosened and he felt his posture sag. He walked towards the road as he shook his shield arm, unequipping the shield. He slid his sword back into its sheath and tilted his head, popping the vertebrae in his neck. He felt like he had been forced to roll boulders up a mountain for all eternity.
He only nodded at Marth's request. He was definitely not fit to be talking about what just happened, nor did he have the words to describe it. He followed after Marth, trying his best to analyse himself. What exactly had caused the outburst? He shook his head slowly, unsure of himself at the moment. He grinned a bit at Marth's next words, though, "Oh man, is that a challenge? I'd be up for it, if I weren't so tired, honestly."
He didn't mention that he was pretty sure stats influenced how fast you could run, as well. He was so tired, he wasn't even sure if Marth was issuing a challenge. Either way, he'd take his sweet time getting back to the city. If nothing else, he could at least turn in this stupid quest. MARTH
