She was panting a bit. The kid was good in his own right with the mechanics of the game, but she was better in overall real life skill. Sadly, not all of her skills could transfer to the game as easily as she wanted. She had to earn the ability to hold weapons she would easily wield in the real world. She shook her head at the kid with a light-hearted chuckle. She flourished her sword around and sheathed it. They had been mock fighting for the better part of an hour now, and she was sure the kid needed a break.

"One day," she chortled along, hopping up on to the rock they had been fighting next to and sitting down on it in her casual cross legged manner, simple white cloak flowing along with her white hair - almost the same tone, "One day, we'll be on equal footing, sweetie. Whenever I get caught up in equipment and the like, then we can call it a real duel."

The smile she gave Marth was warm, amusing, and downright terrifying. She knew she had real skills that she could use in this game. It showed in her every movement that she was confident in herself and her abilities. Knowing this, Gran was very cheerful about the whole ordeal of being stuck in this game. A bunch of kids all needed her help again. Something that hadn't happened since she was much younger. An emotion she hadn't felt since her daughter abandoned her in that wheelchair. Not that she could blame Annabel. The girl had always been interested in her rich boyfriends and influential suitors. Gran sighed, trying not to show her displeasure at the thought of her daughter, but it probably slipped through in that sad look her eyes got sometimes.

She looked up at their quest beacon and frowned, projecting her voice to Marth, "How long have we been waiting now? An hour or so? Hmm. Could you believe when you walked up to me, I had been sitting there for about 4 hours? Bunch of noobs think I'm just some old lady who wound up here on accident. It was very much on purpose."

Another day of wandering and questing, it seemed. Just how many days were they going to spend here? They hadn’t even gotten to the boss yet and Sonic wasn’t sure what he should do aside from meet people and grind up cash and experience points while people were still gearing up to explore the labyrinth.[break][break]

At least he was starting to note some good candidates for a labyrinth run though. Saint for instance was definitely one he could trust to have his back given her background as a competent gamer. There were others too who were shaping up and getting better gear, like Ruler, Prince and Paxilon amongst others.[break][break]

Still, it was too soon to say how things would go and he was getting a little too wound up murdering mobs so it was time to once again go on a nice trek on a mountain. Why’d he pick that one again, one might ask? Because he saw the quest beacon for it just a few minutes ago and he was curious so he was following it to its source.[break][break]

Something that he finally did after a few minutes, only to raise his eyebrows when he saw Marth and an old woman near the quest NPC for the mountain quest. ”Yo. Marth. Ma’am. I’m guessing you two were the ones sending out that quest beacon for the mountain quest. Need another set of eyes or were either of you just fishing for new folk to meet?” [break][break]

The mock battle came to an end and Marth was slightly surprised at how worn out he felt. Raising his STR stat might need to be a priority sooner than later, he thought. It wouldn't bode well if he tired himself out when it came to fighting and was left at a disadvantage. Monsters wouldn't wait for him to recover and players weren't a merciful lot either despite what he'd seen so far.

He was going to congratulate her or at least ask her about how she moved her sword with such zeal. But he didn't. For a second, the look in her eyes left him speechless. He saw it once or twice in their travels together and did his best to ignore it. She didn't need him coddling her but it reminded him of how he felt when he thought of his mom.

I wonder what it is that she regrets.

His thoughts were impeded by her words and he laughed lightly, hoping that someone would come along. Marth was almost certain that he wouldn't be able to keep her from trecking up the mountain with just the two of them otherwise. A voice called out to him as if answering his prayers and he glanced over as a person walked towards them.

"Sonic," he said with mild surprise. "We were just waiting for a third person to come around. Nice to see you again."

He sent a party invite to him and crossed his arms behind his head.

"Well, everyone ready to go?"

Gran chortled a bit as a newcomer showed up. She considered hopping off the rock and giving him what for for calling her ma'am, but decided he meant it more out of respect than calling her old. With a smile and a nod, she stood up and casually stepped off the boulder, landing on the ground with a soft thud. She smiled at the small dust cloud, thinking how she must look like some sort of action hero. Fat chance of that, considering how wrinkled her face was.

"I believe we were waiting on someone to join us for it, yes," Gran chuckled softly, "but new folk to meet is a nice secondary objective."

She tapped her fingers methodically against the pommel of her sword, silently wondering what kind of weapon she would upgrade to first. She'd been looking into stat requirements for things and it was a little disappointing how many weapons she liked more required stats she didn't have yet. She looked from the newcomer to Marth and then back to the newcomer.

"Sonic is it?" she smiled warmly at the man and nodded to him in a manner that was almost like a bow, "It's a pleasure. You can call me Gran, please. Ma'am makes me a little self-conscious, you know?"

She bobbed her head back and forth comically at Marth and smiled, "I think I'm ready to go, yes."

Yeah, from what they said Sonic could easily tell that they were just fishing for a third person to come with them. He didn’t quite know why but he wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth, especially not when it was benefitting from an easy quest like this with nice people. He could always use more money.[break][break]

He accepted the party invite and nodded. ”Mhm. Nice to meet ya then Gran.” He remarked with a lopsided smile and a small bow as was befitting to respect someone much older than him before looking over at Marth. ”And nice to see ya again too, Marth. I’m ready for anything the mountain can throw at us, so go ahead and and trigger the quest so that we can get on trekking up the mountain. I could use some nice fresh mountain air.” [break][break]

He stretched his arms and his back, resisting the urge to yawn as he waited for one of them to trigger the quest or to tell him to trigger the quest. He was up for a little more virtual exercise since there was no chance of him doing that in the real world for the foreseeable future. He paused for a moment at that depressing thought before proceeding to ignore it to deal with it later, maybe with a pint or two of beer and the company of a friend or a stranger.[break][break]
