"But..." She blinked, brow wrinkled as she glanced from the old woman's face to the sky, "it doesn't look like it'll gonna rain at all..." She mumbled, albeit mostly to herself. She knew it wasn't real, of course, and she knew every game (like every story) required some suspension of disbelief to function. After all, there were a number of other inconsistencies she had already found that no one else really paid much mind to. Like... How did a dire wolf sneak past the guards? Thinking on the other quest she had heard about (and how a number of other novices had already failed the mission) she couldn't help but wonder... But knew that wondering did little good. It worked because it worked, it existed because it existed, and right now these cats were threatened by the ominous potential of a beautiful sunny day turning into a horrendous downpour. And if she was going to play the game, she ought to play the game. Sighing, she nodded to the old lady, accepted the quest, and just as she began to turn and leave on the 'amazing pussy cat search,' she made eye contact with another player. Big mistake. For them, maybe. "Hey -" she called out to them. They didn't look busy, did they? "Would you help me? I'm looking for the pussies." Zoya then gestured towards the old lady as she began to repeat nonsense about rain and moist cats. And then, as if on cue, a little thunder rumbled. Arching her brows in surprise, Zoya couldn't help but smile just the littlest amount as she glanced upwards. "Looks like there is a time limit." Pulling up the window selection, Zoya went ahead and sent the player a party request. Who was the unlucky slob getting roped into the kitten hunt?
Please feel to join! Be it as the person Zoya made eye contact and is party inviting, or a person who passes by and sees the Deny'd/Reject'd that happens with whomever she asked and invited. We will be tackling Wet Pussy Cats, a Tier F Quest. Our mission? Find three (3) kittens and bring them back to the old cat lady before it rains. We can do it team. :Q

Awkwardly walking as if placed within a tight pair of shoes, most likely attracting a few strange stares from those whom passed by. It wasn’t alike she expected and she didn’t believe that she could grow used to it, being a completely different person in a world like this. In reality although she had heard about the rumours and high amount of praise for the game, virtual reality wasn’t something one could actually know how jarring yet stunning it was until actually experiencing it themselves, and as a first time user of the machinery she could certainly say it has currently lived up to all the hype. Whether it was a simple breeze in the air brushing against her skin or the touch of the surface of a building, Saeko couldn’t quite understand how it felt and looked so real- yet still keeping elements that allowed it to feel like a game.
Perhaps it was her trail of thought attempting to procure an answer to the system of the game that led her astray, causing her to get lost within the settlement and her current goals that was in mind. Blinks of obliviousness as she would gaze around, wondering to where she happened to find herself. Left and right, down and up, the only thing of notice would be the apparent sight of darkening clouds slowly closing into her current placement. But the sight would only leave her to wonder a few words. There’s weather too? Would that mean that the game could also emulate her getting cold and perhaps getting a cold? She had hoped not, that would certainly be something troublesome to worry about every time a storm rolled in.
A call, beckoning her in the midst of her cycle of deep thought popped her out of those very actions, allowing her avatar’s blue eyes to peel at the sight of the origin of the sound. Several confused blinks would occur, perhaps trying to register the words that were said while holding a finger to point at her as if wondering for a moment if Saeko didn’t make the mistake to see whether or not the person happened to be speaking to herself. Perhaps she had misheard what she said, couldn't help to have her cheeks lightly blush upon registering the said words once more. “M-me?” The girl’s words came out as stutters merely out of the moment of surprise, only for her words be met by the view of a party request popping up in front of her- almost startling her.
A hand lingered outwards, not yet pressing a button yet debating whether or not to aid the stranger in whatever they had been speaking about, perhaps it was a quest or something else- she had no knowledge being completely new to the current game. Yet, she still moved a finger to click on the confirm button, she was stronger and confident than she was before and had to act like it. It was the whole reason for her starting up the game wasn’t it, to be a completely different and reliable person. Rejecting a plea of help would be the complete opposite of that. With that, she could see the addition of another health bar with a name. <<Cross>>, apparently simple but certainly not something forgettable. “A-ah. Yes. I’ll help you with uh- whatever you need getting done. You can… rely on me, I think.” Perhaps the confident part of her new persona needed working on. cross

"Yes, you." It was an affirmation of flat declaration, one made with a slight tilt of the head as Zoya examined the high-definition rendering of the other player's avatar. The girl hadn't seemed busy, but maybe she had been so lost in thought that she hadn't even noticed...? Or she could be shy. While the anonymity of being online still existed, virtual reality put a new spin on interaction and discourse. It felt... more real like this. Which was the point, Zoya guessed. But, in the end this game would be like every other game. There was a set path, limits, boundaries, choices – correct and incorrect – and a way to minimize effort and maximize results. This 'virtual reality' was a gimmick. Only time would tell if the game was truly revolutionary. When 'Artemis' accepted the party invitation, Zoya nodded her head and opened another menu. Sharing the quest seemed best, right? It wouldn't be fair if someone helped and didn't reap the reward in kind. 'You can rely on me, I think.' "I think so, too." She said it with a level of nonchalance that implied that she had never for a moment doubted that she could. Within the barest few moments it seemed Zoya had defined this stranger as someone entirely honest and legitimate... "'Artemis' has always been trustworthy."As if a name was any indicator of the character of a person. Shrugging all the same, Zoya glanced from one side road to the other. No path screamed 'kittens here', to be frank, and she doubted there were many players that had taken the mundane quest of tracking down cats that could give them hints... yet. "Do you think we would hear them crying?" Kittens often cried when alone, right? Beginning to walk down the left road to head further east, she stopped abruptly. She had a partner now. She had to remember that. “I'm Cross, by the way.” Introductions were important. Though she knew full well the tool-tip likely told her partner everything she could possibly want to know... it was still... polite to do things properly. “... So what do you think about the game?” As she began to walk again, Zoya made a mental effort not to get too far ahead of Artemis... even if there was an itching urge to move more quickly. Time was ticking, but... Sociability or Success. Which was more important?

In a matter of seconds soon after her confirmation, she would also be met by the notification of her sharing a quest, only to prove that her assumption about what she needed help with was correct for the most part. A bit relieving considering if it was anything else; she doubted her experience when it came to games on consoles would help her. Fake aquamarine lenses focused, slowly reading the details of the quest before turning her head to examine the old woman in the distance that <<Cross>> was prior pointing to when she had first saw her. A quest to find pets was something a little commonplace in the gaming world, often tedious if they were coded with a system to automatically run away once someone stepped near them. Considering how the world of this game was, it wouldn’t be presumptuous to think that the felines would behave like normal ones do; then again the developers may have not put that much detail into the animals.
Soon removing the quest menu from her sight by fiddling with her left hand- her dominant one, most likely seeming strange to others whom aren’t familiar with seeing a person fiddle with the menu, her attention would once more return to her current comrade. ‘I think so too. Artemis' has always been trustworthy.’ Those words left her slightly furrowing her brows, left a bit clueless at the remark. What a strangely nice thing to say, emphasis on the strange however, the way she said it was like they had met before- then again she could have been referring to the mythological figure not that Saeko was capable of figuring that out so quickly. Still, the words did aid her by giving a momentary boost of confidence keeping her act up as a lightly curled fist would press against her own chest with a peeled smile, “Right, always- most of the time.”
And there she went- quite literally, the figure already started walking without her while the slow starter <<Artemis>> took a few moments to render what was happening and attempt to swiftly catch up to her party member’s pace. She had even spoke out a question in the midst of her sudden movements, which had certainly caught the teen by surprise. It was going to be troublesome keeping up with <<Cross>>’s pace. “I never had a kitten so I wouldn’t know, my- uh… I’ve just never had the thought of keeping pets around me before.” It wasn’t like she hadn’t voice chatted in a game, just attempting to hide vital stuff about herself coming out in conversation was somewhat difficult to say the least.
“But don’t cats normally hang around in alleyway bins, chase mice and meow a lot?” Her knowledge of cats were little to none, at the very least she did have a general impression of them developed by famous kid cartoons. Would that mean that they had to look for a mouse, but aren’t mice in game generally huge and monster-like? Saeko would immediately imagine in her head a small cat attempting to chew on a giant mouse’s tail, swiftly being swatted away as the tables turned, leaving her to shudder in spot at the mere thought of having to see a realistic version of the beast.
Dwelling away from the topic of cats chasing rodents, the pinkette would be surprisingly caught off-guard once again by an instruction. A strange thing to do, especially considering that their names were visible to the both of them. Would it be rude for her not to respond? But then again considering she had already said her name perhaps it would be seen as strange. Maybe <<Cross>> thought that <<Artemis>> was unaware of the party menu and name at the far end of her sight. Clearly overthinking things it took a bit of a while for her to simply just say, “Hello Cross, I’m Artemis. It’s nice to be partying with you- uh- teaming. The game? I think it’s… ‘nice’. Perhaps it’s a little too ‘real’ so it does feel somewhat weird.”
It was clear from her words that she did seem a little awkward when it came to actually conversing with people, though not completely terrible at it. “U-uh- maybe ‘real’ was a bad word for it.” Stuttering her words right after mulling about what she said, it was hard to come up with a simple review on the spot. Despite her apparent constant moments of generally thinking to herself for a couple of seconds with her eyes often darting of two places it was quite clear that she was trying to keep an eye out for those cats though the chances they’d find it within a few minutes of starting the quest was highly unlikely. cross

She might have grinned a little and arched a brow. Virtual reality made subtle things - tone inflection, facial changes - that were normally hidden by a screen apparent. While Artemis' initial greeting had been curious it had not piqued Zoya's interest, but the lukewarm nature of 'Always. Most of the time,' implied a latent characteristic of the person her(or him)self. … Odd. "Me neither." Pets were impractical. They required food, shelter, and entertainment while offering nothing in return. That had been her father's verdict on the matter and that sort of analytical process had governed Zoya's childhood and young adult life. She remembered an old memory of her brother bringing home a dog once... It had not lasted very long. "But that sounds about right," keeping her eyes peeled for trashcans, Zoya mulled over Artemis' opinion. 'Too real…' She thought to herself. Maybe Zoya had been too involved in thinking of the reality aspect as a gimmick to bother being too perturbed. Or maybe she was too fixated on the premise of the game, its odd story synopsis, to bother treating it like a real world. It was just a game. It was just make believe. "Have you been outside of the town already? The environment is..." As her voice trailed off she stopped at the entrance of a darker, seemingly less traveled alley. Seeing a few boxes cluttering the path, she stopped to investigate. Pilfering through the boxes she found... Absolutely nothing. Hefting a sigh and faintly recalling the love of seafood that cats possessed, Zoya eyed the accumulation of clouds. In between their search she had to ask: "Do you think it'd be faster of we got a fish as bait?" While Artemis seemed… unsure... at best, her partner seemed reliable and thoughtful enough. But... Zoya's first solution involved splitting the party. And splitting the party was reliant upon the idea that the NPCs in this game even followed a logical, predictable AI. Something told Zoya she was thinking too much and giving Sword Art Online a little too much credit. "Forget it." She said not soon after suggesting a plan. She then heard what sounded like little children playing with sticks and one shrill voice of a small boy saying, 'leave that kitty alone!' Blinking, she looked at Artemis. It sounded like...

Trail of words would come to an end upon her party-mate coming to halt at a break into an alleyway. Normally in a situation in real life, Saeko wouldn’t step an inch into one she wasn’t familiar of, yet the game did a perfect job of emulating the gloominess and shade that would emit making her second guess following right in after <<Cross>> but with a deep breath in, she trudged forth into the unknown to figure out what had caught her eye.
There were boxes, an abundance of them to be exact. She helped with the forage within them, hoping for a peek of whiskers or perhaps something else that may catch the eye. It wasn’t like games never had any little prizes hidden for those whom search everything, especially boxes and trash bins, not that she’ll want to be ever seen by someone doing such an act. But secretly there was an inner desire for Saeko to be witness to seeing a cat appear from a box. The teen did say she never had a pet, but that never meant that she never wanted to have one. All those videos on the internet with cats playing with boxes were certainly something that warmed the heart.
Sadly there were no cats stuck inside a box much to the hidden brunette’s dismay, her facials not holding back the show of apparent disappointment. “No luck on my side.” She’d comment, although the result was quite apparent to them both, as was for <<Cross>>’s search for the elusive creatures. But it had seemed that her partner had come up with an idea, leaving the girl to fold her arms and think about the suggestion. “Well, n-not to be mean or anything but to use fish as bait that would mean we have to get some. I don’t think that it’s possible for us to currently fish or look for them giving our time limit and… well buying them would ruin the whole point of the quest.” Who would even spend money to finish a quest that gave you money?
Feeling somewhat mean from attempting to politely dismiss her comrade’s opinion to the best of her abilities, something that she would normally just keep in her chest rather than say it if she was in the same situation as in real life, it would seem that it wasn’t needed as the idea was already just thrown in the bin.
Sounds of laughter would begin to echo, laughter of kids to be exact, along with the clanking of wood. What could only be described as a faint voice of a child, rising into a shout declaring itself as a plea to halt some sort of action? Perhaps it was mere gears that had finally started spinning but the moment she heard a cry of a child instead of standing still clueless the teen had sprung into movement, heading towards the source. It was just like then. It was the sound of bullying, alike the time that one of the kids in her orphanage was being picked on, like she was once. Although she was a meek person, those were actions she couldn’t tolerate sitting down and witnessing without raising one hand though the same couldn’t be said when being the victim of the act herself.
And when she entered the scene, an inhale followed by an exhale of a stern voice, “H-hey! Leave him and the cat alone.” She hadn’t been aware of the fact that the cat/s could very well be the ones that they were looking for or the fact that she had ran off without her partner. At this point of time, her big sister-ly instincts had taken the helm. cross#forgive my typos.

She frowned. "You're right," she concluded with a cluck of her tongue and another sigh. While she might have happily spent ten coins to gain twenty if it meant finding the kittens a little sooner, when one was part of two - when there was a team - it wouldn't be... fair. Artemis was useful for more than just hanging around while luring pussy cats into a tuna trap. The perks of working with a partner included not having to go it alone, or buy shortcuts to get through the droll of a fairly rudimentary quest. 'It sounded like the kittens might have been found,' she would have said when she turned to Artemis, but around the time she would have begun talking, her friend had already darted past her. Zoya could only blink again. ... So Artemis could walk faster... "O-oh," Stammering herself, Zoya glanced around before hurrying after her accomplice. She didn't think there were hostiles within the town, well, excluding that ferocious dire wolf, but just in case... She couldn't leave Artemis alone. What if something happened to her? Feeling a twinge of responsibility alongside protectiveness, Zoya skidded to a stop at an intersection. Brows knit, she nearly forgot to utilize the map to find her runaway teammate. When Zoya arrived she saw a little boy holding a little kitten in his lap. Two other kittens were cornered by a group of older girls. The boy had dirty brown hair and a face streaked with hot tears. Wiping his nose on his sleeve he was already begging Artemis for help when Zoya arrived: "T-they're being mean to them!" He blubbered while holding the orange kitten in his lap protectively. The dirty knees of his trousers suggested he had been, perhaps, pushed down. "He's just a crybaby! Crybaby! Crybaby!" The girls sneered, "Go away! We're having fun!" they shouted at the players. "Weird." Zoya mumbled behind Artemis. ' A bullying quest?' she thought to herself, unable to hide her surprise at the turn of events. Weird... But since the NPCs were children, that probably meant that fighting them wouldn't be the proper way to solve the quest. As another rumble of thunder indicated the nearness of the impending rain, Zoya's avatar pursed her lips thoughtfully. Perhaps there was an 'intimidation' or 'persuasion' meter that hadn't been reached yet. Crossing her arms, Zoya couldn't help but be more interested in what Artemis would do to resolve the conflict than she was to intervene rush through the quest. ARTEMIS Feel free to control the NPCs at will. :>

The situation was something that she had seen all too often, even though one could refer to it only being a game it just hit too close to her heart. If it was a simple game on a console there would have been a high chance that she would’ve skipped all the dialogue in order to finish the game as soon as possible but this was different. Like she had said before, it felt too real. There was no way she could ignore the sounds of a crying child attempting to protect harmless felines.
Allowing herself to take a step forth, Saeko would first make her way towards the boy, having a hand reassuringly pat the top of his head while the other wiped at his tears. Naturally, his attention would have focused to her in the moment her actions took place. “Don’t worry; I’ll stop them from being mean to you and the poor cats.” It wasn’t the norm for her to be this way; perhaps there was an added confidence of having a different body and holding a different name, the fact that she wasn’t her same weak self and an entirely different person brandishing the name known as <<Artemis>>.
That being said, she couldn’t help but feel a bit worried on how she was planning to do so as her heart would begin to plant seeds of slight fear of showing her true self into her brain. The older girls were clearly getting their way, poking the cats that squirmed and squealed at the sticks while laughing their head off, all while provoking the fallen kids with words that were meant to both mock and provoke him. So upon the sight of seeing her partner coming into the scene she aimed to do exactly what he could not, walking up to the two munchkins with her chest up and giving a deadly glare of pure warning to them for the sake of intimidating them. “If you keep on being intent on harming those cats, I and my friend will have to demonstrate what happens to troublemakers who think they can get away with harming the innocent.”
Of course the whole act was feigned, she was practically barely holding her nervousness from showing for the sake of making this seem realistic. But perhaps it was her height or the fact that she and her partner clearly appeared to be adventurers based upon looks that the two girls seemed to be scared from the act. “Fine! It was just starting to get boring anyway, right?” The one on the right side, as her accomplice agreed relatively quickly. “Right! We can find something way more fun to play with than these cats and that stupid crybaby.” Sticking out her tongue, the girl took her friend by the arm as both sticks dropped to the ground before the kids ran off. And with that Saeko’s composure slumped as a sigh of relief exhaled from her mouth, while a hand clutched at her chest. She didn’t think she was capable of keeping the brave act going any further. cross #d'aw, but i like being lazy and letting you take creative reign.

Weird. Did adding comfort do anything for the system's algorithm? Did that increase the morale of the boy, thus in turn imposing the likeliness of - Before she went too far, she put the brakes to that sort of rigid calculation. That... wasn't how she should think about it. As weird as it was, it probably was... Artemis just being... nice. There were perfectly scientific experiments that showed that giving a face and putting a name on a machine often led to humans personifying it. That was probably what was happening here. Or maybe Artemis was just role-playing. People did that, too, and while Zoya had never been particularly good at understanding that either, that didn't make it any less legitimate. But seeing the stern expression and hearing those forceful words... Despite herself Zoya couldn't help but grin. The pink-haired, blue-eyed player looked remarkably... cute, whether that be because Zoya didn't quite buy into the show of bravery or otherwise. When the girls fled, Zoya approached to give Artemis an amiable pat on the shoulder. "Good job, Artemis." She said, cutting a look between the boy that had proverbial stars in his eyes and the heroine of the day. A faint blush colored his cheeks as he got up, cat in chubby hand, and began to thank Artemis. “T-t-thank-you miss!” He stammered between sniffs and hiccups. Wiping his blurry eyes he showed the kitten he had found, “T-they were lost and I found them, and then those girls started to pick on them, and –“ as he spoken, Zoya walked closer to the two small cats that had been abandoned by the vicious kids. Settling on the heels of her feet, she crouched down to stare at the two. One was black, the other gray. Both possessed big yellow eyes. “I was so scared! I didn't know what to do! I'm so glad you came!” The NPC grabbed hold of Artemis' leg, giving the player a quick hug of gratitude (and a little snot rub-off) before quickly beginning to retreat. It was about to rain... of course the little boy would need to head home. Before he had a chance to exit the alley completely, Zoya called out to him abruptly: “Wait... we need the cat back.” More sure now than ever that these were the kittens for the old lady's quest, they couldn't let the boy keep the kitten, could they? Th boy's lip began to quiver and his eyes went wide. Looking down to the orange kitten wrapped in his hands, he shook his head. “You can't take her! She's mine!” Looking from the player that suggested taking the cat from him, to his hero, he approached Artemis slowly, “Y-you aren't gonna take my kitty away... are you?” He asked. ARTEMIS Haha! I don't mind writing them, but I'd feel bad if I hogged them from you / I don't want you to feel like you can't write them too, if that makes sense. On another note: #PULLINGHEARTSTRINGS

A distinct shudder coursed throughout her body formed from the origin of her shoulder, giving a slight bounce out of skittish fright. It had almost escaped her mind that she was in the midst of a party doing a quest, with what went on it was like she had overcome some personal trial in real life. “U-uh, you probably would’ve done the same thing even if I didn’t do it.” She mumbled, not one to take credit so easily, but it was apparent that she did take kindly to the praise.
Allowing her attention to fixate upon the kittens, allowing a smile of purity to creep upon her mouth merely at the sight of the wonderful creatures, she would once more look upon the boy whom still a bit tattered in looks but at the very least seeming happier. The story of what occurred would begin to play out, seeming a little generic in nature but still realistic in a way. It did make her wonder about several matters, alike was the quest meant to result like this or was this a mere coincidence that it happened to be something that she was used to experiencing. Though there was little use in wondering about ifs.
Especially when one of her many moments of thought would be collapsed by the hug of the child, ruffling his hair a little as she would comment, “Don’t worry. I’m certain even if I didn’t come you’d eventually stand up to those bullies yourself. I was just giving a little help.” Saeko did want to believe that it would’ve happened, but it was merely meant as words to make the child feel a little bit better. It was quite apparent that she didn’t think of him as a <<NPC>> one bit. All the happiness would however be brought to an abrupt halt by the comment of her comrade, soon stating the obvious that Saeko was apparently too blind to realise. That they were on a quest meant to bring the cats back to their owners.
As if there wasn’t a solution however, lightly curling the tip of her lip she’d almost smile at how much the boy cared about his new feline friends. Kneeling down to his height, the teen would begin to explain to the boy the situation at hand. “Well, we’re going to bring the cats to their owner. They got lost and their owner is really worried about them, so she hired us. We have to do our job; however that doesn’t mean that you can’t come with us and bring the cats to the old lady. I’m certain if you tell her that you saved them from those meanies that she’ll allow you to visit and play with them whenever you pop around.” The dishevelled brunette expression would sadden with her words, before beaming up a bit more but still looking a little bitter.
He looked to the kitty and to the other two, as if debating whether to go ahead with her plan. “I know how hard it is to let go of something that you’ve… grown attach to. But sometimes, it may be for the better. I bet the owner really misses her kittens and they really miss her too.” Advice that was once given to her, she remembered it fondly. The boy puckered his lower lip out as he slowly nodded his head, mopping sadly as he let out the words. “Okay.” What a brave kid, something that she wished that she could have herself; sadly she wasn’t the hero that she had shown herself to be. At least to herself, she didn’t think that she had any ounce of courage within her heart. “That’s a very noble decision you made. Don’t worry, this won’t be the last time you see your friends.” With that she came to stand up and peel her aquamarine optics at her partner, giving a little nod to show that the case was solved. cross #big sis saves the day. possibly. good thing she's at least reliable when it comes to dealing with kids.

It almost... It almost made her sympathetic. Turning back to the two kittens and scooping them up when the opportunity presented itself, Zoya pretended not to notice or hear the verbiage of player and NPC. Even if she listened to every word and felt a dose of conflicting feelings seep into her veins, she buried the sentiment along with her reaction because... what else could she do? Pieces of her felt amusement. It was sweet that someone cared for something that could not possibly care back. It had to show the nature of someone's character if they went to such lengths to be considerate of not a person, but a would-be person. She felt fondness for someone that could be that good-natured, and an instinctive desire to be the object of such tenderness and sympathy. To Zoya, Artemis doted on the child and what person did not want to be doted on, too? But at the same time... knowing that it wasn't real, even if someone acted as if it was, made the earnest exchange bittersweet. It felt cruel to fool someone... and oddly, Zoya felt that she and the game itself were doing just that. The NPC couldn't feel, or react, or reciprocate. It couldn't have thoughts or memories. It only knew what it was programmed to know, and even then one could debate if that was really 'knowing' or if it was merely the relay of fact. Like a dictionary. Did a dictionary know the words that filled it up? ... Nope. “You must have a lot of children...” Zoya commented offhandedly, doing her best to mentally shake off the nagging set of thoughts that clouded her mind. Sighing again, she stepped in front of Artemis and held a kitten by its scruff before her partner expectantly. Wordlessly, she waited until she could drop the a mewing kitten into Artemis' hands before continuing on, her pace more brusque than when they began. “Do you feel the sprinkles?” She mumbled, when truth be known she did not feel a drop. Her exasperation – even if it was mostly with herself – led to her quickened step and her comment was meant to hide it.

“Yeah, I do.” Her comment responding to her partners words instantly and without thought, only to later correct herself with flushed cheeks and shaking both hands semi-frantically as she corrected herself, “N-not in that way.” Gosh, she didn’t want to seem like the kind of person whom had children, then again considering that this person was likely someone that she’ll eventually come to part ways with it didn’t quite matter if she had left that impression. However, it would mean that she wouldn’t be able to show her face in front of her again and she certainly didn’t want to be worried about the off chance of having to also be worried about that whenever playing this game.
Taking the poor kitten that certainly looked worse for wear considering all that had happened into it into her arms tenderly she would hurry on after <<Cross>>, questioning the fact that it had a furry texture and warmth emitting from it. After all, it something she’d expect a cat to exactly feel like. A look up to the virtual skies above, examining the clouds as she heard the light mumble of her partner’s words in order to check for herself unaware of the intent behind them.
“I don’t think so.” At least it didn’t feel like there were sprinkles yet, then again it might be something that wasn’t implemented. “Hope not, that would make all our work worthless... partially. If the time limit was the rain falling, then certainly things would be problematic to them both not to mention it would be complete cold granted the weather works as if it should in real life and with the cold atmosphere it seemed as if that were the case.
She peeled a glance at the boy whom was following after them, also coming to question him as well. It took her a while to register the fact that he was a simple <<NPC>> of the game, but was the game really this complex to allow a situation where he would follow them back to the quest giver? Or did all the routes to tackling this quest end up this way? Saeko could only imagine how detailed the game was, somewhat in disbelief that anyone could develop something like this at a modern age. Soon enough the trio paired with a trio of kittens would eventually be close to their destination, having her prior soap opera moment becoming a thing of the past yet something that she’ll likely keep in memory. cross

... How does one have a lot of kids, but not in 'that way'? What did 'that way' even mean? Did she mean she didn't have a lot of kids in the traditional respect - maybe she adopted or perhaps she was a surrogate? Sparing only a sideways glance towards the blushing hero, Zoya returned her focus to the path ahead. She couldn't make heads or tails of what her partner had said, but that was neither here nor there as they returned to the familiar sections of the town. "We're back," Zoya announced as the trio neared the quest giver. Amid the chorus of happy mews and kitten-like squirming it appeared the cats did in fact remember their elderly owner and were quite keen to return. Sitting the feline she had been holding down, Zoya watched it eagerly scamper up to the old lady in the most adorable of fashions. "My kitten! Precious Sophie!" The NPC cooed, scooping up one kitten before shuffling forward to fetch her other 'darlings.' “I am so happy you're back before the rains!” The NPC exclaimed as she began a structured dialogue of gratitude and reward-giving, while also making comments on the rather rough conditions of her dear pets and the presence of... well, another NPC. Zoya couldn't help but tune out during most of it, her arms folded and her feet itching to move on. A permanent frown began to fester on her lips until, as the quest came to its final resolution and the award was doled out, she spoke. "That's it then," she said as she began to dissolve the party. Without further remark, Cross would begun to walk away. Before she got very far, she thought better of it. "Hey..." she began, scratching the back of her neck as she turned back around. "Like I said before... good work. Next time I'll help you on a quest, okay?" She offered, bringing up the menu and issuing a friend request before resuming her stride. The meeting between the cats and the owner seemed somewhat heartfelt, even though one could say they were simply just data in a game the fact that they bore smiles and emotion wasn’t something that she could simply ignore. As such, the dialogue between the old woman, the child and the kittens was something she chose not to ignore but rather listen to with open ears. However because she was a bit more attune to other’s emotions than her own, it did come to her attention that her partner wasn’t so keen on listening in to the conversation herself. A vague look of curiosity with sit upon her face gradually coming to the realization that she still hardly had learnt little about her from the beginning of the quest and to the end. Was it the anonymity of being online or simply that she wasn’t a character that couldn’t express much? Still, it wasn’t something that Saeko could quite not forget about.
With the end of the two’s dialogue a menu swiftly appeared in front of <<Artemis>> showing the prizes of the quest well done, what she could only assume was a small amount of the town’s currency as minor quests in games like this only gave out a small amount of money from what she was used to experiencing. But in a matter of second’s right afterwards, her blue lenses noticed the loss of her teammate’s health bar as with little words that said person had already come to disembark. A frown was something she couldn’t help but display at the sight of the abrupt leave. Did she give off the wrong impression, did she do something wrong. Even though it should’ve been expected, perchance the fact that the world in the game felt all too real made her feel as though she was a tool simply casted aside after being used. Saeko’s right arm was kept limp to her side, the length gently being comforted by her left hand, before tight curling around it. Mouth opening as to say words but none came out, slowly lowering her head as she dejectedly chose to let it be. It was just a mere game after all.
But then the person came to a halt, Saeko’s downcast gaze slowly rose to meet their own as words were exchanged. Smirk slowly being made on her own without her own notice of doing it upon hearing the simple praise and gesture, while the friend request screen popping up in front of her made the act seem more genuine. “I’ll... might take you on that someday.” Saeko let out as the faintest of whispers, hand slowly shaking as it moved till it tapped on the accept button. <<Cross>> was certainly a person she had yet to fully understand and learn about, but at the very least this simple detour that the pinkette had made with that unknown person was something worthwhile. cross //exit
